"But a mooted swap between Essendon and Richmond for Paige Scott and Emelia Yassir did not materialise.

Wednesdayā€™s dealing started with the AFL ticking off on dual All-Australian Eilish Sheerinā€™s move from Richmond to North Melbourne despite frustration from rival clubs.

News of the impending trade had drawn ire from rival clubs, given the Roos were coming off an undefeated season which ended in a breakthrough AFLW premiership. But itā€™s understood the league was satisfied a fair deal had been reached between the two clubs.

The uncontracted 32-year-old had interest in her home state from GWS and Sydney, but it is understood a major factor in her decision to join North Melbourne was her close friendship with Kangaroos womenā€™s football boss Erin Lorenzini.

A former WNBL player who crossed to AFLW to spend two years at GWS, Lorenzini was appointed to her role at Arden St in June."

20p most contested in W is gold ,,, and in our side like diamonds , irreplaceable unless we draft like we never have before

No doubt it will hurt, bigtime next year. You can't draft that sort of talent with our picks me thinks but Sheerin was 34 so they would have been working on her replacement even before she left.

I would think since it is tiered. It really means the strong get stronger & the weak get weaker. Which I think we will slip into the second bracket, at least in the short term & hopefully not the long term.
Otherwise the AFLW will find it an even harder sell, trying to encourage people to go to these games. When realistically there are only about 4 of the same teams in contention each season.

Pretty sure it will evolve into a single tpp pool ,The journo is half right , other factors come into play , like who they barracked for which seems common , pre existing relationships and perhaps success which hasnā€™t been an obvious one to date ,
Sheerin had a mate there ,,, have norf lions crows or. Melb been attracting players previously I donā€™t think so

And none of us know how close is close either

What a mess!

THE AFLW Trade Period has thrown up one final twist 24 hours after concluding, with Richmond youngster Emelia Yassir now set to stay at Punt Road on a one-year contract but with Paige Scott set to nominate for the Telstra AFLW Draft.

Scott had been tipped to return to Essendon after their trade request to Richmond dramatically fell through on Deadline Day, but after further discussions the forward will now chance their arm in Monday night's national draft.

It's tipped that the Tigers will ultimately select Scott at pick No.31 next week, while it's understood there is no animosity between the player and the Bombers despite disappointment at their decision.

Yassir, who was also involved in the failed trade, was considered unlikely to return to Richmond when her bid to get to Essendon collapsed in the final minutes of Wednesday afternoon's deadline.

However, after fresh talks on Thursday morning, it's now expected that Yassir will extend her stay at the Tigers and pen a short-term deal that will see her return to Punt Road through season 2025.

Yassir faced the option of either returning to Richmond or delisting herself and nominating for next Monday night's national draft, where Essendon would have likely called her name at pick No.29.

However, with uncertainty regarding whether she would make it to the Bombers' selection, Yassir is now expected to accept a revised contract offer to play for the Tigers next season.

Essendon backed out of a three-club deal that also involved St Kilda inside the final minutes of the AFLW Trade Period, with Scott and Amber Clarke the other players that featured in the discussions.

The proposed deal would have sent Yassir to the Bombers, Scott to the Tigers and Clarke to the Saints, with pick No.8 going to Richmond and with Essendon finishing with picks No.10 and 11. A series of other selections were also thrown in.

However, when that idea collapsed, Essendon and St Kilda began negotiating a trade for Clarke separately with the Saints ultimately parting with pick No.8 to secure the forward.

Too bloody right.

We would have given Yassir and 10 for Scott and 8 under the proposed deal but we wanted a first round pick on top of this.

Now we keep Yassir and get Scott free (sorry couldn't help myself), well for pick 31 we'll select her.

It's gone from losing Yassir and getting Scott to keeping her and getting Scott for 2nd rounder, presuming that no other club jumps in and takes her but she wants to get here. I think she's got a friendship with Hosking?

Make no mistake, Yassir to Bombers will be revisited in 12 months time.

Don't doubt it for a moment, hoping that like Tom Papley who requested to be traded to Carlton, it worked out and whatever motivated for him to want out of Swans was resolved to his satisfaction, we've bought time to work through the disconnect.

Would be pretty happy if we get her at 31

Not going to lose too much sleep over that one , def a capable player at the level whoā€™s kicked multiple goals several x . But Is very much pidgeon holed as a small forward

I agree. The biggest thing we will miss is that she is elite in goalkicking accuracy.
