Not necessarily , he could play outside if he has a tank. He lools to be faster than both gaff and masten. If he doesn't break lines on the outside is he simply an inside midfielder?
Redden Priddis Sheed Waterman dishing the ball out then why not have some speed ?Yeah lets just go outright speed and agility. 1st and 2nd pick: Cunningham and Rioli, 3rd pick: Mountford, 4th or rookie list: Markov
Or is he Brandt colledge? If he doesn't break lines on the outside is he simply an inside midfielder?
I can't see much wrong with Cuningham although I get the sense he didn't test that well (other than the 20m sprint). There were certainly a lot of other mids around an expected 20-40 draft range that seemed to do much better with the skills tests. Well that and he is missing an 'n' from his surname - maybe nobody can find him on their recruitment list because they can't spell his name correctly?
Highlights are on http://www.afl.com.au/draft/draft-machine
Expected to go 25+
Hopefully he's still around at 31. Looks the goods.
I really don't see his height as being an issue.Too short IMO. As a contending team I can't see us picking him up, for his sake I hope someone else does but will most likely be a rookie selection.
Looks good nice size !Any love the man I picked up late in the mock draft for the dockers, Lachlan Tiziani.
Good size - 189cm, 79kgs
Great kick
Poise under pressure
Reasonable speed
Looks like a real goer too me.
Check out his video - http://www.afl.com.au/draft/draft-machine
Wasn't that Jake Lovett?for the Lovell fans what are your opinions on Melb refusing a F/S nomination and telling him they haven`t even got a rookie spot available .
Not sure they can do more than one poll per thread. Like most people I've gone around in circles a bit over the past few weeks but yesterday I felt really comfortable with these preferences -Im fairly new to big footy but can u run a poll within this thread? would like to see who everyone wants to select with pick 23 (whatever it ends up being) and pick 31.
18yo Midfielder 184cm 80kg VIC
Strengths: great pace, good composure under pressure, great leap, strong in traffic, good explosiveness, good shot for goal, clean hands, good decision maker, can kick off both feet
Weaknesses: not quite AFL build/strength yet, contested marking could provide flexibility
Will Need To: improve endurance, strengthen/bulk up
Verdict: would likely develop quickly at WC, has the potential to become Shuey like, possible go home factor but will likely have built plenty of trade currency by then
19yo Small Defender 181cm 79kg VIC
Strengths: excellent pace and agility (topped the draft combine for speed), is deceptively fast on field, very composed under pressure (no doubt because of his speed but almost looks too relaxed), uses his fast change of direction continuously to give himself space (although that approach probably won't work as well for him under AFL pressure), seems to choose good outlets out of defence, willing to run and carry with the confidence he will beat his opponent, clean hands
Weaknesses: not sure his endurance is AFL standard yet, only 181cm so slightly short for an AFL defender but might grow a bit more, doesn't have an AFL build/strength yet
Will Need To: bulk up a bit whilst retaining speed, sharpen up kicking and get more penetration
Verdict: if he were to get stronger and add explosive acceleration off a standing start he would be a gun off half back and as an outside mid
18yo Midfielder 182cm 72kg WA
Strengths: excellent endurance and pace (killed it at the draft combine), reliable hard working midfielder, clean hands, strong overhead, good decision maker, good kick, good shot for goal
Weaknesses: not AFL build/strength yet
Will Need To: strengthen/bulk up a lot, needs more explosiveness with running
Verdict: underrated local boy who would be extremely passionate about joining WC, who we could take a year to develop most likely as an outside mid or possibly running inside mid
If somehow we managed to get Cole and Cunningham would be a huge win wouldn't mind in what orderNot sure they can do more than one poll per thread. Like most people I've gone around in circles a bit over the past few weeks but yesterday I felt really comfortable with these preferences -
Yes I know, 3 midfielder types and they are all speedsters but looking at the draft I think a lot of other clubs will be looking at KPPs and there are pretty low stocks of those at our picks. It looks like the 2016 draft will likely have far more options for us, especially out of WA. We are definitely looking for premierships in the coming years and I think any of these guys could be close to an AFL debut the year after next with a good couple of pre-seasons and the experience of training in a premiership contending environment. And mids are also great trade currency, so if it gets too crowded on our list (which you would think it must) and they want out then I am sure we can get suitable compensation for them.
- pick 23 (ie ~28) - David Cuningham
- pick 31 (ie ~36) - Alex Morgan
- pick 62 (ie ~56) - Declan Mountford
- pick 75 (ie ~65) - PASS
I think all three of these guys have enormous potential as they have the basic ingredients to make it a AFL level but need a fair bit more development and polish. Working in a balanced team environment with hard working mentors/role-models like Priddis and Shuey will have them developing quickly and having three speedsters from the same draft competing for attention can only be a good thing (thinking of the result of EMac, Schofield and Brown all from the 2006 draft).
Names Twomey has WC linked with in his top 30 article on AFL.com
Darcy Tucker
Ryan Clarke
Daniel Rioli
David Cunningham
Tom Cole
Not sure Tucker and Clarke will make it to our pick but am still leaning toward Cuningham over all of them personally. Although if Tucker did slide it'd be hard not to consider him. Partington and Lovell are the other two I'd add to that list.Names Twomey has WC linked with in his top 30 article on AFL.com

That would be awesome but almost no chance we'd be able to pick up both surely? We'll be lucky to get Cuningham with our first, and be very surprised if Cole is around at our 2nd. I'd most likely pick Cole if Cuningham wasn't available at our first. If somehow we managed to get Cole and Cunningham would be a huge win wouldn't mind in what order
I like the idea of what Rioli could become but think he is still a fair way off atm. There are other options this draft that are just as fast/agile but also more solid and consistent. Also be warned that the videos on the new Draft Machine only show the good stuff - for a more accurate analysis of each player you need to check out footage (and things like stats etc) from other sources.Hope WCE will go Rioli at pick 23 he's a playing type that we lack since Fido .
Rioli is in the Newman ,Weedon Low 20's pick range that has failed so we are due to hit the jackpot soon .

I reckon Shuey's pace comes from his attacking sensibility and willingness to back himself through traffic more than necessarily being the fastest runner who happens to be an inside mid.hard to base it from the 3 minute video posted by the AFL but comparing his speed from that to shuey, it looks like shuey has him covered for speed. However, thats only off this 3 minute clips. I would say shuey would be one of the fastest inside mids atm in the comp.
