Im not all up to date on how shit works, but with Jack Martin uncontracted doesnt he just go into the draft and anyone can pick him? (if they want to risk it)
Can go into the national draft with contract demands attached to him. E.g.. Luke ball to pies. But blues pick 9 is too early their next pick is in the 50s. Gold coast have puck 20.

Or risk pre season draft where gold coast Melbourne or Carlton can pick him for free

his manager has already said he will go in the PSD not national draft - iirc

if i heard correctly on the news today - gold coast said they will take him

I think if you nominate for the National Draft you cannot stipulate a wage, though I may be wrong. He is more likely to nominate for the pre-season draft with a wage demand of say $5-600k. Gold Coast get first crack at him if they want to and I think they should. If they pass then Melbourne get the second go, and if they pass then he falls to the Blues. I think he and Blues have colluded this season to reduce his trade price and preserve himself and Gold Coast knowing this asked for a trade that represented him at his best, and rightly so. They should just take him and say if you want to be traded to a place of your choosing give us your best or no way we play ball.

Itd be awesome if they did just to spite Carlton. Cos it's be a 2 year contract at psd. giving them leverage come draft time again. I personally wouldn't take him.

National draft players (Not first time draftees) can put contract demads on themselves. Last case of a player doing this was Luke ball.

Bit if risk involved if they take him back. Personally wouldn't take him. I'd want to close that chapter so to speak and move on. It's about creating a new culture for them where players want to be there

Hi guys. I hope you don’t mind me dropping in.

As a lifelong and passionate Saints supporter I’d like to thank your club for their accommodation in trading Dan Butler to us. Your club showed real class.

We rate him and are thrilled to get him.

We appreciate you took ‘unders’ for him and we would have given more if we had more to give.

Unfortunately we were screwed by Geelong in the Steven trade, despite our club being at their mercy because we were trying to do the right thing by Jack. That’s another story, but we are proud that our club did the right thing despite the cost, similar to your club with Dan.

Anyway, good luck in the draft and for next year. You remain the team to beat.

In honesty its probably more than what we were expecting.

Wish Dan nothing but the best. Unfortunately for him he was simply squeezed out due to depth. As with Lloydy last year i wish him all the best. He will always be a Premiership Player here.

Goodluck for 2020

I couldn’t agree more.

Our club publicly thanked the Tigers after the draft via James Gallagher and Simon Lethlean. As we should have.

Good things come to those who do good deeds.

Great of you to come here to post the above

Richmond these days are on another level with players it see's as borderline best 22 and believes its unfair to waste players careers stockpiling them just to be rotting away af vfl level if we have other young players that we want to develop and its the right thing to do.

Ellis C , Miles , Stengle , Lloyd all last year were facilitated to find clubs at very cheap picks and this year Ellis B was encouraged to take the GC deal for his future both financially & Games and Butler expressed his interest to move and was looked after to get to his desired club with 4 clubs interested the saints must have been impressive .

Hope he does well and has a long career and lets hope we continue to trade well going foward as Hunter / Coffield both look like they would make good Richmond players ;)

Thanks for kind words, its good to build goodwill between supporter bases.

I'm proud of the way the Tigers go about these things these days but its good to see its appreciated at the other end.

Will always have fond memories of Butts. There are many Tigers that say his banana in 17 gf was the one where they let go and thought we've got it.

Good luck next year.

Think your boys might just be on the rise with Ratten in charge

Or to those who cheat on their wives with employees but went to the right school and have mates in high places.

Please ignore the couple of trolls in this thread that couldn’t help themselves.

While Butler became a bit of a whipping boy for us this year (I sadly was one of the people that used him as a whipping boy) at his best he’s a very good small forward.

I still have fond memories of him in the 2017 GF.

I hope he gets back to his best for you guys. If he does he’ll be really good for you.

Good luck next year.
