A poster from another board reckons we’re in for Bennell. I spoke to him via PM and he seemed confident with his mail. Obviously it could well and truly be bullsh*t, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we took a punt.

I personally reckon he’s well and truly cooked and is a bridge too far even for us, but I think if we signed him the competition would be very nervous that we will get him right.

Hi guys. I hope you don’t mind me dropping in.

As a lifelong and passionate Saints supporter I’d like to thank your club for their accommodation in trading Dan Butler to us. Your club showed real class.

We rate him and are thrilled to get him.

We appreciate you took ‘unders’ for him and we would have given more if we had more to give.

Unfortunately we were screwed by Geelong in the Steven trade, despite our club being at their mercy because we were trying to do the right thing by Jack. That’s another story, but we are proud that our club did the right thing despite the cost, similar to your club with Dan.

Anyway, good luck in the draft and for next year. You remain the team to beat.

Yep cats wouldn't release Kelly last year and expected the world for him this year. But thought it was ok for Jack Steven to want to come home and for St Kilda to get nothing for him. Hypocrites.

K.Bartlett would have still got 20 kicks in the GF against GWS...... rookie him.

To really take the piss, the RFC should have a raffle for its supporters. Whoever wins, nominates for the rookie draft and gets picked up with the RFC last pick. Doesn't play a game for the year and is named in the GF for their debut :thumbsu:

There is no wat Deledio would be allowed to come back.

He made his choice

But he had Deledio posters on his wall as a kid

Bennell had his chance but burnt his bridges previously
I agree but it wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up on our list.

Our depth is so good now that Blair and Balmy might throw him a life line knowing if it fails it will have no real affect on our results.

My biggest concern though would be behaviour and possible affect on younger players. Plenty would say back our culture in but is it a risk we need to take?

Most likely bs mate , I think with what happened last time no way we go after him .

I think he’s a bridge too far as well , more his body than the old off field antics , don’t believe we need his type of player either

Not so sure.

I think with our culture and leadership of the indigenous players he might come good.

Maybe the PSSD or MSRD? Where we pick him up for nothing?

What's the worst that can happen? (umm...maybe I shouldn't have written that)

Interesting one this one. One way to alleviate pressure on your cap when in a position like ours without a net loss in quality mature players is to look at players like Pickett and Bennell, ie players with elite ability who have displayed wayward behaviour at some point but where you now have at least some reason to expect they will be fully dedicated. There are loads of ways Bennell can amount to nothing, calves, other injuries, goes off rails, body just taken too much damage to reach his previous best. And the only way you can get something good out of him is if all of those things unfold perfectly. Yet if you SSP him ala Stack, you eliminate virtually all of those factors. Any of it looks troublesome you don’t list him, shake hands and best of luck. If it all looks good, you have a serious bargain on modest money and another feel good story on your hands.

Just don’t think he is going to make it through the two drafts to allow us to SSP him, but if he does I certainly would do if his attitude seems decent. Drafting him or getting him as a rookie is a different story, and would need very careful consideration. What he did before is only relevant if it is still relevant, ie, if you don’t see clear signs of that sort of behaviour being in his past.

so from the senior list we have lost grigg, butler and ellis and we need to use 3 picks to upgrade chol, baker and stack. If we use the same list formation as last year we will need to delist 3 more players to have 3 live picks in the draft. I reckon come draft night we will trade our two picks in the 40's and the butler to move up the order slightly. Would be pretty happy with this outcome.

We had 38 on the list this year, can go to 40. Opens 5 list spots. Weller retired too

I love backing in our culture and structure and taking a risk on the unwanted. I was wrapt when we took on Stackman and then Pickett. But between them and the ordinary day to day challenges with managing a list, I reckon taking on Bennell is maybe going one step too far.

Remember, we got where we are today with a foundation of players that are of a certain ilk: Grimes, Chimpa, Shedda, Vlaus etc. The bigger focus should be to continue to focus on those character types. Compliment with a few that have a lot of talent but need support, no probs with that, but don’t go over board with them and end up using too much energy on them, distractions etc.

Keep it in balance. Bennell didn’t show us much respect a few years ago either remember.

Whatever happens with Bennell, if we take the punt I’ll support him and the club and if we don’t I’ll support the club with that as well.

I don’t think we’ll go there but I’ll back Richmond with whatever they do, I think the club has earnt that.
