End of first round was overs but 39, before other compos, priority picks etc is laughable. Would be worth more at the trade table. It was good enough for previous clubs but not Richmond this time. First round pick, averaging 22 games a year, in his prime and top 10 earner at the club doesn't justify band 2? FO.

Just came to say, that Pick 39 is an abject joke. I knew you wouldn't get an end of first, but I did think around 25-30 at the very least. If the contract was lower, then it would be understandable.

I guess you guys can take solace in the fact that you got Lynch without giving anything away. Swings and roundabouts I guess

what they getting for daniher

will work out better for then i reckon. a poor mans vickery

Speculation is Papley gets 8 from the blues, and this then goes to the dons

Idiot Essendon people though think he's worth two first rounds....

There is no way for us to get a pick 25-30 based on the FA rules and our finishing position on the ladder
Band 1 & 2 would be Pick 20
Band 3 & 4 would be Pick 39

I'm not sure we have the room on our list to use 4 picks in the National Draft anyway, so I would expect us to trade those picks to move up or for currency next year

I've actually been anti compensation picks since FA came in. Why should other clubs be punished in the draft order because a player moves? While the system is there though I expect fair and equal treatment. Previous cases almost identical to Ellis have qualified for end of first round, except this time the media kicked up a stink for a week and got their wish.

I'm the same. I think players should just be traded, and we do away with free agency completely. Keeps the better teams up, and the lower teams down.

Band 1 - After first round pick (20)
Band 2 - End of first round (20?)
Band 3 - After second round pick (39)

Band 1 is usually a top 5 paid player at the new club (Lynch). Band 2 is usually within the top 10 (Motlop/Lycett). So either the media reports of B.Ellis' contract were way off or Gold Coast are completely overpaying a bunch of spuds ahead of B.Ellis lol.

This probably sounds the beginning of the end for compensation picks. The opportunity for clubs to match comes way before opposition offers are made, clubs either offer a player a decent contract or they don't so no need for RFA status, it'll just merge with UFA. The benefit to the club losing the player is cap relief. We offered an extension, GC offered more. So 39 is better than nothing.
