Yep Tippy is 30 & bloody ordinary for what you'd have to pay.

He's also had an ordinary career when you consider output vs contract, true mercenary.

At his best he's good but so much shit in between good spells & injury.

No, just ******* no!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll start the "Welcome to Collingwood" thread.

Please let him either stay at Sydney to clog their cap, or go to Richmond and clog their cap as they come back to Earth...

I doubt anyone will take him without the Swans contributing significantly to his 2018 salary.

Problem is we have literally rinsed and repeated by picking up the same type of midfield player. Swap it with an outside speedster who can use the footy, and immediately it is a different balance.
Maybe, but I'd argue that KPF's are by far our more pressing need. The player you're describing is the icing on the cake.

Yeah I'd pass on Tippett. At 30, his best footy is behind him.

If he was willing to play for minimum wage, that would be different (for example I was quite keen to get Petrie last year as backup considering Darcy was our only key forward). But something tells me Tippett isn't the sort of bloke that plays for minimum wage.

Just wondering what the go is with Rupert Wills? He seems to tick a lot of boxes on paper being 192cm, good ball gatherer and great tackler. We need a big inside mid. Is he someone you guys want to keep? How do you rate him?

Been injured. But our first pick and Wills seems a good trade for Lynch

Injuries have held him back in 2017, but beware the glacially slow inside mid! He is to us what Patty Cripps is to Carlton without the dominant inside game. It's solid no doubt, but solid isn't enough for Wills to be anything more than Danny Stanley...

Wouldn't want to trade him. He's a poor mans Patrick Cripps, but not super poor. Just moderately poor. Still has the potential to establish himself as best 22, as he's a real beast on the inside and a tackling machine, but has been injured this year. Wouldn't want to trade him unless we got an offer we couldn't refuse tbh.

I hope Josh Thomas continues to get games and continues to show and build some form. That would be win-win, in that we would have a best 22 player at our disposal, or his value will increase for the likes of Brisbane or Gold Coast.

On another note, would the Bulldogs seriously be willing to offer 800k to Lever? That combined with Boyd would mean they had 1.8m p/a allocated to two players who aren't in their top 5 players. That would be very irresponsible for mine.

At AFL level? I'm not so sure. For his size and age his numbers at the back end of 2017 were poor (7.4 cp and 2.2 cl), IMO. I'm in the keep camp, but he needs to step it up.

Interesting thanks for the heads up. Saw a little of Barlow in his highlights.

I thought he was pretty solid given his relative inexperience at the level. He's certainly a beast at VFL level and his improvement came from virtually nowhere given his year before he was drafted. I'd love for him to get a clean run at it and play a solid block of senior games towards the end of this year to see if he can step up, provided it's not at the expense of giving JDG minutes. Swapping out Greenwood for him would be ideal if they're going to refuse to use him as a tagger.

I think if Seir had stepped up (as a closer clone to Cripps than Wills), then Wills' position may have been under threat. Until that happens I think Wills is safe.

And until that happens, Sier unfortunately is not!

I doubt there'll be too many list changes at the end of the season and I'd personally prefer to see players like Wills and Sier persevered with ahead of the Blair and White types. I'd see Schade and Keeffe as being at greater risk.

Who would be at the top?

No specific names but we need quick half backs and key forwards. I don't see an intercepting third tall defender as a need enough to be spending big chunk of our salary cap and trade currency on. Guys like Saad, Pittard and Savage would be at the top of my list. As for key forward that's a bit anyone who's not too expensive and AFL standard is fine for me. It could either Reid or Casboult depending on how much they demand.

He's slow can only really play in the midfield and he hasn't shown himself to be a big possession getter. If you really need a big body who can stand up in a tackle and tackle the shit out of the opposition he's your guy. I'd keep him on the list but it shouldn't take much to get him.

If he were 19-20 I'd agree, but as a mature age recruit he needs to come in as the finished product and can't afford to develop his game for three years or miss two thirds of a season through injury.

Compare him with what Menegola has produced. From the outset Menegola has averaged 23 possessions, 10 cp, 3 cl, 4 I50 and 5 tackles. That's the standard he needs to be at as a mature age recruit.

We mostly need
Pace
A strong tallish (not 2 m ) player
A long accurate kick.
Someone with all three would be ideal.
