What are peoples thoughts on Jackson Trengrove from Port? FA this year, and dropped this week, he seems likely to leave. I would almost rather pick him up and keep our 1st round pick, then make a big play for Lynch next year.

I love the idea of Lever, but for me, our backline isn't as big an issue as our forward line. We desperately need a big fish to work in tandem with Moore.

We could even look at Duryea or Savage too for some drive out of the backkine and we can move Maynard to a wing or half forward.

That has always been our problem. We always over estimate our player's worth and when push comes to shove we are not prepared to trade.
Of our playing list it is my opinion that only the following would have trade value or some form of trade value.

Small forwards: Brown; Crocker; Daicos; Elliott; Fasolo; Kirby; Phillips;
Midfield: Adams; Aish; Broomhead; Crisp; DeGoey; Greenwood; Pendlebury; Sidebottom; Thomas; Treloar;
Rucks: Cox; Grundy; Moore
HB: Howe; Langdon; Maynard; Ramsay; Scharenberg; Sinclair; Smith
FB: Reid; Schade

There has been talk of us going after Devon Smith (I have a mate who is good mates with him and he claims that Smith has been a done deal to go to Geelong since the start of this year). However, do we need another small forward/ midfielder? If we did what would we do?

Lever is a great young and attacking HB. Do we need another HB when we have Howe, Langdon, Maynard & Scharenberg?. Would Lever be a significant upgrade on what we have by what we would have to outlay for him?

There is talk of wanting Rockcliff but where would we play him?. The big problem we have is that we have so many midfielders and most of them are being played out of position. So who would we be prepared to trade to get a decent forward or back? Will Pendlebury be around when we next seriously challenge for a premiership? If no, should we bite the bullet and dangle him? He still has significant draft value.

Several of us suggested trading Cloke 2-3 years ago whilst he had trade value. We were lambasted for suggesting trading an icon. When push finally came to shove a year later, we got sweet FA for him.

Last year people said we were all set up to land the big Kahuna this year. However, he instead signed a two year contract. He rebuffed our approach this year and BF now seem to think that we will get him next year. Why? because he barracked for us as a youngster?. Judd barracked for Melbourne as a youngster. That didn't help them. Tippett barracked for Brisbane. How did that work out for them?. Reid was certain to join his brother...nada. We are not currently a destination of choice. There are other clubs that at present show more scope of improvement. Why wouldn't Lynch look at Carlton? their list is improving as is their game plan and they have a significant war chest. They also have better draft picks?

So who are we prepare to trade to fill a deficiency?
Agree with most of this, but I would be comparing Lever with Dunn, Goldsack, Schade, Keeffe instead of the guys you have above. It is quite possible that in 2019, none of these guys remain on our list. He is 100% a list need imo - hopefully he and McLarty form the spine of a formidable back half for many years. From all reports he has excellent leadership qualities as well.

We are likely to upgrade Cox and Thomas and have Tyler Brown as a potential FS with a late pick or as a rookie. If ever there was a time to be trading out of a draft, surely this is it? Apart from being happy to trade pretty much all of our draft picks, I would also consider trade offers for any of Crocker, Aish, Broomhead, Greenwood, Cox, Langdon, Smith and probably a few others too...

I agree in essence with what you have stated. But why would you compare Lever with who you have listed when they won't be with us. If Lever comes on board he plays a similar role to that of Langdon, Scharenberg, Maynard, Howe and Smith off the HBF and we already have 5 of them. Lever is not (yet) a KPD. So if we have to trade for him who do you trade? and what is the point of another HBF. He would have to be a significant upgrade on who we have for what we would pay for him. I would prefer a KPD than a HBF but more so a KPF.

lol Still can't believe anyone could possibly suggest our backline isn't as much an issue as our forward line. It's being held up by Goldsack and Dunn who will be lucky to have 1 year left each.

Our backines has problems, more game plan/structure lack of pace/skill/small defender/running rebound, We got enough coverage Generally to get by sure we'd like some more class, but we not anywhere near the trouble as we are up forward. Moore is still young, Cox, is questionable if he'll make it and make enough his strengths to cover the lack of chase and pressure for his size/shape, and Reid an older pinch hitter whose OK. Lack of another quality KPP is a glaring problem of t he list much greater than any backline problems and harder to solve.

(a) there are options for the backline, McLarty, Schade, Reid, Scharenberg, Howe, Langdoin, Maynard, Goldsack, Dunn (Not all are talls but backlines can perform undersized the way forward lines cannot) and even Keefe has played some good games down back (which he has never done up forward. The forward line has Moore, Cox and the pinch hitting Reid. Quite clearly the amount of forwrad line coverage is much less than back.

(b) backman are easier to draft and can be picked up much easier in tehdrfat or through trades not commanding the higher premium that forwards do,

(c) lesser talents and workman like players can much more often be successful down back/

Lever will be a great player but he's not worth throwing the kitchen sink at. As it stands he doesn't play a chb or FB he plays a similar role to Langdon or Howe or even Scharenberg. It's pretty much the only position on the ground that we have a surplus of similar players.
We need a key position player not a leave their man third man up specialist.
Recruiting Lever in my opinion doesn't make us a better team at all.

I believe we believe that he will develop into the current / future prototypical FB or CHB, like Hurley or even Scarlett, who can defend big bodies, is still agile, can kick, read the play, and rebound... ie can do the lot. Hes still young and apparently 195cm, so his body is currently more suited to intercepting & rebound, but as he fills out, he can take the #1 KPF's when required, and without a problem.

Agree with your premise but disagree on your players with trade value.

Don't think Crocker or Schade have any value. Think Thomas as a FA off the back of a 2 year suspension has no trade value unless he's feeling very favorably toward the club and a club values him sufficiently to take as a trade rather than as a FA. Think Smith and Phillips would have very limited appeal to a limited number of clubs. Think Sinclair's injury history pretty much erodes any value he might have.

Beyond that, new recruits in Brown, Daicos and Kirby would have value but we'd be mad to try and realize it without fully gauging their potential as we'd never likely get what they could ultimately be worth.

Then we have a few who we'd get shafted on due to a variety of issues so you'd have to query the benefit/cost of trading them. Aish, Broomhead, Scharenberg fit into this category. You'd certainly entertain offers but knowing fully you're going to get burned.

That leaves:

Small forwards: Elliott; Fasolo;
Midfield: Adams; Crisp; DeGoey; Greenwood; Pendlebury; Sidebottom; Treloar;
Rucks: Cox; Grundy; Moore
HB: Howe; Langdon; Maynard; Ramsay;
FB: Reid;

While I know Darling isn't what you would call an A grader I think if we could get him relatively cheap he could fill a need at full forward and we could go to the draft with a KPF top of the list next year.
Darling is only 25 so you would think he would have 6-7 years left in him.
Bloke has kicked over 260 goals which is a decent effort.

HF - Elliott Moore Sidebottom
F - Kirby Darling Fasolo

Thoughts?

If the price is right, I'd jump at him.

We get lever for free lol

They're the best types of trades! Only a magical list manager can make them happen though....
Who did get Buddy to Sydney again....when he was sposed to be going to GWS under an AFL decree?

Was that Pickers again?
