Did he sign a contract extension already because aren’t there standard 2 years contracts for draftees. Also don’t see how that means we’d get him cheaper in a trade where it’s obvious we want him or you know.. we wouldn’t be trading for him...

Signed an extension till 2021.

Aiden Bonar is on an reported $400k salary.
You can not compare.
The variables are different.

Would you be paying an player $400k when he’s played an total of 6 career games?

Let’s be real

That's poor list management if true. The sort of salary you'd offer a player like Stevo if we were negotiating a contract extension, not someone who isn't getting a game. I'd be very surprised if that was the case.

Who a Player Barracked for a Kid seems not to make a Difference where they want to play
Well it can. Howe and WHE are a case in point. I think we were unlucky with Lynch that he is good mates with Prestia and the Tigers has the good sense to VFL list his sister.

They said he Agreed to join Richmond the year before and they won the Flag and we where bottom 6 and not looking like Climbing back up the Ladder any time soon

Langdon is streets ahead of Scharenberg. His flexibility to play tall and small. His intercept marking and his run is so much more than what Scharenberg offers.
Its really not and the stats dont back up your claim, langdon is horrible by foot sometimes, remember when he kicked it into rioli from like 5 meters away in the grand final, they are similar players with similar output no point arguing about it

Yeah, that’s a load of bullshit Dave.

Listening to Bennell's manager this morning. If I believe him, then Fremantle has the worst medical team in the AFL. Apparently it took a specialist (I believe I heard he works at Geelong) only a quick scan to work out the issue and it was rectified immediately, yet Freo's medical staff couldn't work out the problem for years and years.

I think it smells to me. It's amazing how someone's body is always perfect as soon as they are delisted, and that they are finally on top of their medical issues, and they have matured from their early indiscretions as well.

Either way, I think it would be negligent of us to not at least do our due diligence. If he is able to train strongly following his next bout of surgery, then he would be perfect. I really want either Brad Hill or Jack Martin, but both would come at too high a price both in terms of salary and trade worth. Bennell is a similar player who would come at base value and no trade required.

But we don't have the best reputation when it comes to managing calf and hamstring complaints, and we'd want to do our homework on his personal behaviour as well.

At this stage, it all smells a bit fishy to me. But I'd want us to at least do some screening of him. I know we need KPP's as a priority, but I reckon we lack a pacy wingman as well.

Casboult reportedly wants 2 years. Carlton only offering 1 year.

Depending on wage I'd offer him 2 years. Can offer ruck forward competition to Cox and depth at full back if Roughead goes down.

Allows 18 months - 2 years for Kelly, Keane, Wilson to further develop

You'll get shut down, but I personally don't see the harm in bringing in a few mature age types. Particularly if they are KPP. Jenkins is the one I'd prefer though...but may come at a higher price tag if we have to pay our his contract.

I see 6-8 list spots being available, with reports that this isn't the deepest draft. So we could bring in 3-4 kids, and 3-4 mature players, then I think that's a good balance of bringing in some youth, but still maintaining depth.

We are going to lose a lot of experience on the list with Reid, Goldsack, Dunn and Wells all presumably leaving. All are injury prone, so it's not a huge loss, but I still think it necessitates having some maturity with our depth.

The fact Casboult has added a new element to his game as a Full Back, and has also been handy forward and ruck, makes him a decent depth option.

If you believe the narrative, he definitely had his troubles early, but has cleaned them up and is now a model citizen doing everything he can to get his body right and has been training really hard. But his persistent calf issues have prevented that, until now that the actual problem has been diagnosed. So he is getting an operation on both calves, and is looking to train with an AFL club to be available for the February draft.

I don't believe that narrative for a second, and I think his issues have been both medical and due to lack of professionalism. That said, what's the harm in doing some background, and if we are happy with what we are seeing, offering him the opportunity to train with us leading up to Feb. If he proves himself, then we have "tried before we bought".

But we need to do homework first. You don't want a disruptive character coming into a settled group. And you don't want to waste your time with a guy whose body is simply not up to it....especially given our historically bad management of soft tissue injuries.

Adding him into our already growing pharmacy dependant list, we might as well have a supplier on the books save the guys some coin.

That aint no "narrative".

If we get him might as well bring in Jake Carlisle and Mumford too and complete the set.

Yeah it's not just Casboult...there's also the likes of Jenkins, Hartley, Henderson, Roberts, etc out of contract and could come in and perform a role. And likewise more expensive types like Keath and B McKay who may be gettable.

I'm hoping to see us take another 1-2 mature KPP

Negligent not to do our due diligence on Harley you say? I'd guess it's going to be a long and exhaustive cost benefit analysis that might have an executive summary somewhere along these lines:
Due Diligence on Harley Bennell:
Done nothing on the field for 5 years: check
Done plenty off the field: check
Injury prone older player: check
Unprofessional: check
Drugs: check
Mental health issues: check
Swanny approves: check
Did I mention injury prone?: Check.

Welcome to Collingwood Harley.

Still wouldn’t have me play for those scums if I had the talent........Pies forever.

Showed a real bag of tricks in his early games, but his last two seasons have been awful. Would like the Pies to look at him if he’s dirt cheap but I suspect he’ll end up at Fremantle like every other washed up Western Australian tip draft pick
