Doesn’t Thomas need to be elevated? I know we played him as a nominated rookie this year, but he still needs to go through the formal elevation unless the rules have changed.
Thomas effectively became our 40th senior listed player (we were 39 + 5).
Not sure with new rookie rules whether he formally has to be upgraded?
Page mentions + 2 new rookies next year...I think it’s only 1.
Assuming Oxley out, Broomy in & Mihocek upgraded.
Lynch, Appleby, Broomhead, leaving 1 free spot.
Cat B = Magden plus the 2 Irish lads.

On this, how many team’s pillows do we need to fluff?

The Hawks are clinical with how they go about it. Most of the players they seal the deal come in cheap as chips. Then there’s us who shit the bed on Sam Murray types (disregarding the ultimate relative favourability by our unexpectedly high finishing position this year)
Yes, Hawks can land 3 former top 10 draft picks (Scully Pick 1, Wingard Pick 6, Scrimshaw Pick 7).
I can understand the Scully salary dump & ankle issues, although still appears to be a bargain, the Wingard Trade will be fair & balanced...however Scrimshaw is definitely a bargain.
The Hawks are here to stay...they use Trade & Free Agency better than any other club.
Their draft record (with later picks) is also very good.
I don't get how other clubs continually let Hawthorn get away with it.

Meanwhile some other clubs (including us) are made to pay overs for just about any deal. More often than not those clubs who are made to pay overs are also the ones who accept a little bit less to ensure a departing player gets where they want.

Must be something long lasting in the water at StKilda.

Just because Adelaide overpaid for Gibbs doesn't mean we have to. I don't think we have the same midfield need as Adelaide did either. Sure our midfield got beaten in GF, but with another preseason Sier should gain more fitness and hopefully Treloar regains his pace.

But while Montagna urged the Lions to stand strong, he realistically believed it was about his value — similar to a deal done for Bryce Gibbs in 2017.

“I think that’s got to be the ballpark, Bryce Gibbs is a pretty good comparison, he was about the same age — had two first years to run on a contract — he went to Adelaide for about Picks 10 and 16 but Adelaide got back a second or third round pick,” Montagna explained.

“So I think two first round picks that are in the teens are probably fair. Now Brisbane might have to give Collingwood something back — maybe a second or third round pick, if that’s going to happen to get done, then I think that needs to get done.

“As I’ve said all the way along, I’d love the Brisbane Lions to try and keep Dayne Beams, it seems like he’s toing and froing with his decisions. Keep him at the football club, they’re on the rise and they are heading in the right direction. They need a player like him at the football club.”

Bring Graham Wright home!

I assume she’s just guessing? Surprising that we’re persisting with Murray? And are we allowed three Cat Bs?

Murray won't be deregistered and banned until ASADA hands down its findings. We cannot preemptively delist him before then.

As for Paige's "+ 1 more" - given that we will be using all of our points-carrying picks on matching bids for Quaynor and Kelly I still find it hard to believe that we would give up on McLarty as a second round KPP of his size and shape after just two years.

We will have two empty senior list spots after Murray is banned and surely McLarty would have to take one of them, given the state of our KPP stocks (and our age profile at those positions).

.
If we give up 2 first rounders I'm going to buy a burka and live in exile in Afghanistan under the name Fatima. F*** it, im done re...

Any chance you might be on Tinder? I might consider swiping right after viewing your profile if things start getting a little quiet...

So it is my understanding that Collingwood can go into draft deficit if we don't have enough points for the f/s Will Kelly and academy prospect Isaac Quanor. The deficit tab will be picked up by a future pick in whichever round that the bid was made. So if Quanor is bid on with pick 15, thats a first round pick, so the Pies go into points deficit for the first round.

My question is what happens if we don't have a first round pick, if it is traded to Brisbane? Does the points deficit go to the actual pick traded, or to Collingwoods next pick. If it goes to the actual pick traded, then it might be in Brisbane's best interest to give us picks this draft with enough points to cover a bid in the first round for Isaac Quanor so as to not dilute their future first round selection.

Will mega deal get completed in time?

Liam Twomey
JAY CLARK

A six-way mega deal which would send all of the biggest names left in this year’s trade period to their chosen teams looks increasingly likely today.

Fremantle threatened to blow the deal apart last week, but softened its stance over midfielder Lachie Neale in trade talks with the Lions yesterday.

The Herald Sun understands the Dockers are prepared to release Neale from his contract if Ross Lyon’s men were also guaranteed to claim twin towers Jesse Hogan and Rory Lobb by tonight’s 8.30pm trade deadline.

However, Brisbane and Collingwood were still haggling over what the Magpies should cough-up for Copeland Trophy winner and premiership player Dayne Beams.

Brisbane wants two first-round picks for Beams, who will turn 29 before the start of next season.

But Collingwood instead wants to only hand over pick No. 18 in this year’s draft as well as a future second-round choice for Beams.

Even if the Pies did pass on two first-round picks, they would demand a second-rounder back from the Lions to balance out the deal.

Collingwood was last night not desperate to land Beams, believing he was a bonus addition to a midfield which was already one of the game’s best.

Influential agents Paul Connors and Tom Petroro were last night assisting in discussions to ensure Beams (to Collingwood), Neale (Brisbane), Steven May (Melbourne), Hogan and Lobb (GWS Giants) all reach their new homes as part of a frantic finish to the trade period.

GWS wanted pick No. 11 from Fremantle for goal kicking ruckman Rory Lobb, but have met resistance from the Dockers who want to instead part with pick No. 23.

Melbourne remained confident it would move on Hogan so it could claim defenders May and Kade Kolodjashnij from Gold Coast.

The Demons initially requested two first-round picks for Hogan, 23, but were last night working to do the deal with Fremantle for pick No. 5 and a later choice.

Hogan’s management denied a report the key forward had sought an eight-year $8 million mega contract from the Dockers.

Port Adelaide was also set to become involved in the six-way deal as it eyed Brisbane wingman Sam Mayes, who wants to return home to South Australia.

Port could also jump up from pick No. 6 to No. 5 by tonight.

The Lions were looking to pass on a mid-round pick for Western Bulldogs’ stopper Marcus Adams.

Carlton is keen to add Swan Nic Newman potentially as a delisted free agent next month, while Collingwood has shown interest in Port livewire Jake Neade.

12:45pm update, Day 9 of 10:

Oh what a move... with Red Energy; 100% Australian owned energy retailer! With one singular trade yesterday, we have had some absolutely MASSIVE names move clubs this morning! We've had Aaron Hall go to North Melbourne, Jack Scrimshaw go to the Hawks, Sam Collins sign with the GCS, Tyson Stengle to Adelaide (...almost), as well as a random pick swap. Exhilarating stuff!

Hutchy was seen rubbing his fat little hands together. "It's really starting to heat up, isn't it?" he said. "Anyone would think all of these blockbuster trades will go down in prime time on the last day! Wouldn't that be convenient for Crocmedia!? Brought to you by Peter Jackson! By the way, they're having their biggest suit sale in decades" he continued, clicking his fingers along to a familiar, yet seemingly hypnotic bass line.

The media are living off the tension of all fans and listeners alike. "Will this trade get done?" said one journalist. "That trade is at risk of falling through!" exclaimed another. "They're leaving it a little late, aren't they?" added another, winking at Hutchy. Hutchy completely misread the situation and went in for the kiss, before realising the purpose of the wink. "Now you're learning" he says. "Put another set of ads on!"

And put another set of ads on is what they did. They then spoke about the Gold Coast Suns for 2 hours non-stop. More ads, the culture, the complete restart, you name it. And do you think any Suns fans called to discuss the topic? Of course not.

Magpie Monopoly's trade scenario lays dormant. It seems like such a fantasy that not even Tony Sheahan has touched it yet. But hold onto your hats, folks!

It's currently Agent's Hour, and once again, no agents to be seen or heard of. Are we really going to move into The Trade Feed again without a change of scenery? Did someone delete the 'Agents Contacts.xlsx' spreadsheet from the Trade Radio computer? Hirdy?

So people have said you can have up to three Cat B's on the list. Do they not occupy normal list spots? As

Maybe they should talk to Murray and pay him out early. And have the same conversation with Wells, see if he is serious about recovery and getting fit.
Does Magden just stay on as Cat B rookie?

Out: Fas, Blair, Kerby, Smith.
DcM chat: Murray, Wells
No contract yet?: Daicos, Checkers, Mclarty..who else?
There could be a player traded out?

Wells was at the Club yesterday doing his rehab.

Pickering (On SEN yesterday) said Wells is back training and looking forward to next year

Bit pi$$ed off that we have to keep Murray on the list.

Someone should remind him a kid (eg McLarty) is going to get cut bc we have to wait til January for your B sample. Gee he'd want to be confident it comes back in his favour.
That is very annoying. Why can't we delist him like we could a normal player?

Well, we can, can't we? Just that we would have to carry his salary in the cap...?
