We'll top up the midfield through the draft with Reef and Daicos in the next 2 years. So we could forseeably offload first round picks since we'll have academy prospect anyway (similar to how we did it with Quaynor).

I'm a fan of getting Ben Brown, and I'd love us to explore Tom McDonald to be a defender again.

I will vomit if we do that to our first rounder.

You should be looking at it as a priority pick to inject quality youth in 1 year.

Brown at 30yo is not worth a top 10 maybe even 6 pick. Incredibly short sighted.

There is absolutely zero chance we trade Treloar - it's not championship manager 2020 where you just trade players on a whim. Not that I'd be against it, especially now since he's showing that he's probably going to be sidelined to soft tissue injuries on a frequent basis, but the only way it happens is if he asks out and I can't see why he'd do that.

They asked him just last year when GC wanted him. He said no is why it didnt happen offered up pick 1 for him (Rowell).

Hartigan is solid. No two ways about it. A very solid player, on the cheap, would be hard to say critic. However until we get a key forward, our list management team is ****ing useless.

For mine Finlayson or Wright are the ones on that list that are

- affordable, unlike Cameron and B Brown

- poachable, unlike Hawkins

- has several years left in them, otherwise you risk age related injuries or players past their peak (think Q Lynch to us or Cloke to the Bulldogs)

The caveat is that neither are 50 goal a year forwards. But I think a 30 goal a year forward like Finlayson or Wright is enough if they share a forward line with De Goey, Elliot, Mihocek, Stephenson, etc

Lol how isn't Brown affordable? North dreaming if they think they're getting anymore than a late first

AFL website has an article today saying list changes in 2021 will likely see a reduction to either 38 plus 2 rookies or just 40 with rookies abolished
With Cat 2 rookies likely to remain outside the 40

I’m fine with that. Rookie list is neither here nor there nowadays. I say a list of 40 plus Cat B rookies.

Draft then works as follows:

1st rd picks get 3 year contract

2nd-3rd rd picks get 2 year contract minimum

4th rd picks, Delisted Free Agents, mid year draftees, etc get a 1 year minimum contract

Everyone senior listed except Cat B rookies

Salary cap. Cameron is a free agent, so he clearly wasn’t talking about trade cost.

Few players we have will be traded/delisted/retired
Other players need to be recruited in their place though. It’s not like all the cash they free up can be taken by one player...

Absolutely no club would want to take on treloar's contract who is reportedly contracted for another 5 years.

What's the source for that? I don't recall it being announced. Was it reported somewhere?

yeah.
"
The Herald Sun also reported Treloar had signed a four-year contract extension with the Magpies — a deal the club has opted not to publicise.

Treloar originally signed a six-year deal on around $650,000 per season when he was traded from the GWS Giants to Collingwood during the 2015 AFL exchange period."

Trading a 1st round pick for a 30 year-old Brown would be terrible. Hopefully we don't do that in 3 years time, when Brown is actually 30

2 years and a couple of months. If you’re going to criticise an age exaggeration then don’t do it yourself too.

But he wouldn't be 30 during the AFL season until 2023, so it's not an exaggeration, it's just irrelevant entirely
If you’re trying to get technical, if we were to trade for a 30 year old Brown it would be in 2 years, given the trade period runs in October. He would literally be a matter of weeks from turning 30. In 3 years we’d basically be trading for a 31 year old Brown. As I said, you’ve exaggerated. Time to end the conversation unless you’re going to argue that a couple of weeks is equal to a year.
