Heard this morning we’re attempting to broker a three-way trade with Adelaide and GC. Just rumour. Tippett to GC, Caddy to Essendon, we have to make Adelaide happy.

It’s all probably moot anyway as I still think we’d need a first round pick for the Crows. But they might be slightly more open to players than GC would be.

That rumour has been going around for weeks, but we have nothing that Adelaide will want. Adelaide can target Gorringe or Day (I have plucked those names purely as an example) where we have nothing that would compete with Adelaide doing a direct trade with Gold Coast. I hope that I'm wrong.

I'd give that a 1% chance of happening.

What are we giving them, Gumby & Gus & our 2nd rounder?

If you're referring to my trade suggestion, as soon as I posted it, I had another look and decided deletion was the best option haha.

So in essence I agree with you.

LOL! I'd be keen on Ben Jacobs, I really rate him. Such a bad trade for Port.
He's a long kicking, hard at it kid who runs all day with great disposal for those who don't know.
Oh and he was an essendon supporter :p We know Hirdy and co like those.

Good player but is an exact clone of Myers, and not as good. He was also a Geelong fan growing up FWIW.

How about we just heck the gold coast off and do a straight swap with Adelaide. Monfries and Gumby for Tippett would be a much better deal.
HF: Crameri - Daniher - Jetta
FF: Ryder - Tippett - Davey
Would allow us to play Hurley down back which would create:
FB: Pig - Hurley - Fletch
HB: Dempsey - Jakey C - Goddard (he's ours!)
And through the middle:
Heppell - Watson - Stanton
Bellchambers - Zakka - Hocking (tagger)
Not a bad team I would have thought.

I thought I would remind you of this post.

I suggested we should have a look a look at Tippett and you shot me down like a Mumbai beggar.

The below story appeared on AFL.com today suggesting Collingwood and Sydney are having a sniff. All I will say is this proves what a massive flog you are. Easy to throw barbs mate, isn't it.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/148965/default.aspx

ADELAIDE has lost the battle to keep star forward Kurt Tippett, with the 25-year-old telling the club he wants out.

As Tippett is not a free agent, the Crows will seek to trade the forward to a rival club.

With his family based on the Gold Coast, the two Queensland clubs, Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast, are seen to be in the box seat to secure his services.

Tippett was linked to the Brisbane Lions earlier this year.

With former forward Brendan Fevola's hefty contract now paid out, they would have the money to afford him, while playing for the Suns would allow him to be close to his family.

But with interest from several other clubs, the situation could play out as it did for Mitch Clark, who last year told the Lions he wanted to go home to Perth, before accepting a better offer from Melbourne.

The Sydney Swans and Collingwood are also said to be interested in Tippett, who has played 104 games since he was drafted by the Crows with pick 32 at the 2006 NAB AFL Draft...

Ease up mate, it's been widely reported for 12 months that the only reason Tippett would leave is to go back to QLD, making my post a very reasonable one. And it's one I standby, I firmly believe that there is no chance he doesnt go to one of the two Queensland clubs, and that this is simply journalism speak and from his manager to bump up his price as much as possible. If he turns around and goes to Collingwood/Carlton, I will come back here and give my sincerest apologies, but I really don't think I'll be needing to.

Can't even recall the context of the post though, regardless of whether he would want to come to Victoria, surely you weren't/aren't suggesting we should go after Tippett?

Oh really? oh man, I must have got my wires crossed, I thought it was him, I know it was a Port youngster from that year.
Thanks dude :)

We're "into" a guy who's a part of our junior academy and could easily sign up for F/S selection?

Strange way of putting it, if those are Ralph's words.

From what I've read Jacobs seems to be more of a natural backman (being good overhead) whereas Myers is most definitely an inside midfielder.

Or is he another out of position midfielder?

The context was a potential trade where Adelaide would get Gumby and Monfries, Gold Coast would get Tippett and we would get Caddy. I said heck the Gold Coast off in the equation and do a straight swap with Adelaide for Tippett. Clearly this deal would never happen, however it was to come off, which it won't, I stand by the fact we would be a better team with Tippett than Caddy. Tippett's efforts in the prelim only confirm that fact.

I find it really frustrating that we have flogs like you who are so quick to jump down anyone's throat at any suggestions that hasn't filtered out via the herald sun. I read the Hun like you, and most others on this site, so I am well aware of the standard position or lines being spat out by clubs and managment on most things. However we all know what is reported in the media is not always correct and as we have found out over recent days other clubs outside of south east queensland are enquiring about Tippett. He must at least be open to the idea of coming to Melbourne or Sydney. Now I am not saying we should go after Tippet, we have just landed the biggest fish this year, however all I was/am saying is if a trade was on the table that saw Adelaide get Gumby and Monfries, Gold Coast get Tippett and us Caddy than we would be much wiser to at least ask the question of Tippett about whether he wants to play at our great club. Tippett >>>> Caddy.

Firstly, absolutely no need on the "flog" call. I know this means very little but in almost my 4000 posts I don't think I've ever had a genuine attack at someone on here. I'm glad you can speak for all of us after only being here a month though. It's a forum, I disagree with your opinion, and that is very much allowed. Hang around and you'll see it happens a lot.

And I think you answered this whole issue with the bolded part. But not only wouldn't it happen, but why would we throw all our money at Tippett? No-one doubts he can play, but we obviously couldn't afford Goddard if we got Tippett. And given the balance of our list, and having Hurley, Daniher, Ryder, Crameri and Gumbleton not to mention Steinberg on our list, it simply wouldn't be smart to throw all our money at a key forward.

As for the Herald Sun comment, no I'm not basing my opinions off that. I happen to think it's a rubbish paper, but I do have a family member who works there, and I am fortunate enough to hear inside words that for one reason or another cannot be printed, which is a high majority of the stuff. Which is why I took little regard to your comment about an article on the AFL site. You jump down my throat for supporting something that is claimed in a paper (Tippett only wanting to go to Queensland) yet you then proceed to claim how after all that you were right and I was wrong because again in an article, just this time on the AFL site, it says Melbourne teams are interested. Do you want to be the pot or the kettle?

But this is getting petty and way off topic. If you still have an issue with this and want to continue discussing it, PM me. Otherwise, let's leave it at that.

On a side note...how the heck can Collingwood fit Lynch and Tippett in their salary cap?

If they give us a million dollars we might carry his contract so he can pick up garbage along Arden Street. Is that legal? :p

Any chance Port would trade for Monfries rather than take him as a FA? Given the comments from St Kilda it doesn't appear that the clubs have an idea what they will be getting for compensation until the week is over, but it makes you wonder about how it would affect Port.

If they took Monfries free, it would even out the ledger and lessend their compensation. Would they be receiving a pick for each player, or is a net result determined (i.e. Can 2 players worth second round picks be worth a first round pick, would the club get a choice?)

If they lose both Pearce and Chaplin and don't pick anybody up they should be looking at some pretty decent compo, which would be lessened with the addition of Monfries.

Any chance a gentleman's agreement could be made to do some pick swapping for Monfries? Their 2nd for ours or something? They gain extra compo, we upgrade our picks. Would the AFL shut the trade down or call fair play?
