Thats totally understandable but there are a couple of reasons it 'could be' Soldo

GWS were interested in Meek so the people in charge must believe another Ruck is a required

Preuss has stolen a career and is either always injured or suspended and doesnt have the work rated to become a 100 game player 27 years old with 20 games after 6 years at the level

The young rucks are not ready yet and will need 2-3 years to take over if they are AFL standard

Kingsley will know the best if he wants him but Soldo was played regularly with Kingley at Richmond and would have had a big say in team selection

Ralphsmith is highly rated and i would hate to lose him as steak knoves and believe the club rates him highly also with McIntosh and Pickett our only other genuine wingman atm
I expect Ralph’s who’s next in line to be pushing both macca and Pickett for a spot ,,,gws have several similar types I’d expect soldo more likely to be in the frame

Crazy, All signs point to Rachele being an elite mid/forward.
Georgiades could very well top out as a B grader. Port's stocks aren't as good as they seem. Marshall is a ruck more than a forward. Dixon is trash, who else was there? Fantasia? They're ass.

Georgiades is a shit kick. That doesn’t usually fix itself.

Would prefer Ralphsmith obviously but Castanga I wouldn't be too upset with, was really underrated during those peak years, probably hasn't been at his best the last couple offensively but does all the little things better then almost any other small in the comp
The main problem would be Ralphsmith knows he has a position in the Richmond team or will have in 12 months time and is contracted as well as being a melbourne boy that most likely wont want to move interstate so would be extremely hard to convince unless its a big uplift in cash which will be the same problem GWS have with your elite kids and Hugo is not worth giving that money to at the moment.

GWS cap space is the main reason Hopper & Taranto are leaving and if you are not making cap space then why let these players leave ?
GWS have enough stars and potential stars that will be needing an uplift in salary next 2 years and most likely need some foot soldiers on low $$$
that provide experience and depth in area's you need.

As a freebie players like Aarts , Soldo , castagna may offer this , Im not sure how many list spots you guys need to fill but with so many leaving
it would be cray to have 6-8 kids coming into the team.

Personally i think this deal gets done at the end when GWS has done all their deals and know what they have and will allow Hopper to leave even if its for F1+#30

Clubs usually let players get to where they want even if its slight unders and i think Hopper is a respected player coming from you academy and giving 7 years of good service.

I dont believe GWS would sand in his way for a 10 spot upgrade from 30 to 20 and pay him $600k when they could use that for another star that they may keep.

We shall see

Honestly, GWS need hard workers with mongrel. Mansell and Castagna wouldn't be the worst for them. I actually really rate Mansell, but the reality is that he's not getting a game for us any time soon because of our backline depth.

It's annoying consistently being overly nice guys at the trade table.

Not really
It’s what gets us Taranto, Prestia, etc. without Being totally reamed. Other clubs like doing business with us… we protect our reputation as fair traders.
Great gif btw

You know when good players are looking to move, agents advise their clients which clubs they should preference?

It's no coincidence agents advise their clients to go to Richmond because "the trade will get done without issues".

It's no coincidence Dunkley and Bobby Hill previously nominated Essendon - both trades failed to get done and now those same players requested trades again and neither nominated Essendon again.

All this trade period bravado might impress fan bases but clubs pay the price for it long term.

It amazes me how many people miss this. It’s not just a reputation with other clubs, it’s with players and player managers.

“changed tact”?

“To change tack means to change course, to try a different approach or a different method. The phrase change tact is often used, but it is incorrect.
as is their tactic was to get JG and now they have changed their course and now going for JHF ...... :drunk:

Taranto , Hopper and Bruhn have all played as midfielders at GWS and is something they don’t have huge depth in . Surely if losing all 3 and wanting a player in return it’ll be someone who can play as a inside mid .
Graham , Ross , RCD , Dow all likely to be in that frame you would think ??

Tom Lynch, Jacob Hopper, Dion Prestia, Tim Taranto

There's a clear strategy here from the Tigers.

Our success doesn't allow us to get early draft picks, instead of relinquishing our dominance on field, we trade our draft picks (which are hit or miss), for proven top 10 talent - not alleged (JHF) top 10 talent.

There will be decent FA coming avail in coming years too , pity one of these weren’t FA as gws couldn’t have matched

Agreed reckon he’d be a reg in a lot of sides and George has more claims than alot of small forwards out there that do fa other than they’re 5”2 and are flavor of the month
