Stengle was done for buying cocaine outside the footy season wasn't he? Obviously he knew he would not get tested out of competition. That would suggest that he is pretty clever at hiding whatever drug use/addiction he has. The problem is that with the AFL drugs policy we might get Stengle and discover he has a serious drug problem and already has two strikes.
Smith is the good one and green is the one that got rubber bootsI get Green and Smith confused
Which one is Steely? The small forward or the half back?
Either way good luck to him if that’s the case
Unless its medicinalDrugs are not ok at Richmond.
We only accept Broad’s photos.
Watching the side play I can see Miller and Broad showing real leadership characteristics. Similar in the midfield with Toranto. Dusty is the leader in the forward line, and I don't see a ready replacement for him. The guys I would like us to chase is Lukosius. If Daniel Rioli wanted to go to the Suns, he is the guy I would be chasing in return. And he is the right age to bring leadershipHopper, Miller & Ross do not deserve to make a list. Rioli is potentially being traded for pics. Dusty likely wont play on & Lynch might struggle to play 20 more games in his career. That list is quite frankly weak
Lukosius wont come to a melbourne clubWatching the side play I can see Miller and Broad showing real leadership characteristics. Similar in the midfield with Toranto. He started out playing midfield for us and was shit there too.The forward that's really an undersized mid that we are trying to shoehorn into another position.
The AFL saying that they told the clubs that they "may" change the rules around F/S and pick swaps is one thing (and maybe they did say that) but that is a lot different from actually detailing the changes so the clubs change adapt their strategy. Even now 8 months after last year's draft they cannot say in detail what changes they want to implement. So, how could they possibly provided that detail before last year's draft. The AFL are playing with words. Its ****ing bullshit, that's what it is.
Typical AFL just playing on words and then implementing something that will have an immediate impact on some teams. It will hit us harder than most because we are now in the process of trying to rebuild our list while Clubs such as Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Adelaide have already had a few years building their list and are on the up.
You try not to be cynical but the timing of all this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the AFL want a different premier each year, their plan is to have 18 different premiers over 18 years, we've won 3 in 4 years so right now we at the bottom of the list again.
What I can't work out is Collingwood, they won the flag last year so I cant understand why they continually get looked after, will this change if they go back to back? Or do the AFL want them to remain at the top while Carlton have re-emerged feeding the $$$ coffers of this corrupt organisation.
It shouldnt have to come from the coach. Our President & CEO need to be the ones throwing the toys out of the cot so it gets the media attention.I’m still hoping this is a comms exercise where they soft announce something to gauge what the push back is and then formulate their plan/changes around how much heat they’ve gotten for the initial comments
I’d be hoping in private the club is going beserk at them to ensure any changes aren’t as impactful as they otherwise might be
This is one situation where it would have been better to still have Dimma as a respected senior coach who could make comments and push back publically. Bit tough for Yze in his first year to do that credibly
Don't disagree with your idea however last year and probably this year the end of first round will be about pick 29. Let's assume we get 2 inside the first round and 1 more in the 30's then the last 2 picks are going to be 50+ which means physically undersized kids who are probably 2 years away. If we hunt high picks (which I think we should) we will only get 3 good picks in the draft.I’m keen to go nuts and get 6 picks in this draft. How the club manufactures this is dependant on 1) The AFL changing the rules of not and 2) Player trades and FA
We are a club with an ok core and some ok kids. Gibcus may be the only elite kid but we may never find that out.
So go all in. Invest in the kids and keep our core to make sure there is some protection.
This is the draft to go balls and all in. It’s now or never.
If he is a country boy, then you are probably right. But he is a good-looking young rooster who may want to strut round in a bigger henhouse; in which case Adelaide would be hell. Would be worth asking the questionLukosius wont come to a melbourne club
It will be the crows if he leaves the suns
If D.Rioli wants to leave the the suns 2 x 1st rounders should be the price and nothing less
So you claim it was a mistake to get Taranto and Hopper but you need another 3-4 years before you can Captain Hindsight the draft and pick out the players we should have taken instead.Whatever the club had as its best available.
You don't get "lucky" with draft picks & pick up elite talent unless you actually use the picks.
Also, asking that question 1-2 years from that draft is pointless. Ask me in 5 years and i will easily pick through the list and give you a vast list of embarrassing misses. I don't pretend to be a young talent scout. never have. i give nil opinions of incoming draft picks because im one of the few people here that knows there place when it comes to that stuff. we know SFA except information we are regurgitating from other articles, post etc
I only rate Taranto. I legit think Hopper is a lowly skilled inside mid, injury prone AF. do not rate him. At all. Dime a dozen mid who doesn't move your needle at all. He is somewhere inbetween Shane Tucks best year and his career average in regards to quality. Definitely not worth a top 10 pick, let alone the rest.
If the club doesn't back itself to get a pro rata better talent(s) than Taranto when having 2x top 10 picks + 2xtop 25 picks, then they are hopeless and all should be removed.
I actually cant believe people are still wanting to defend that awful trade. 2 mids from the same team, at the same time trade..... it was desperate at the time and a lot of us told you as much
We have plenty of undersized mids thoThe forward that's really an undersized mid that we are trying to shoehorn into another position.
Kick is the 1 thing he can doJack Atrocious ffs. Soft. Can't kick.
He kicks beautiful lace-out drop punts straight to the opposition. Don't believe the hype, he's a terrible kick.Kick is the 1 thing he can do
Yeah so considering all that, wouldn't it make the trades we made for Hopper & Taranto a bad list management decision?
We desperately needed young talent in-coming and we traded away 2 years of the best 4 picks we had. How was that smart?
I also note that the Cats are in the same position on that list - but due to superior drafting, trading and free-agency moves, they are in a considerably better situation than us, despite their last flag being 18 months ago.
We had a tough path after our success, sure, but to say it absolves us of blame for our situation is a very soft rule of judgement.
There were quite a few people in these forums that have been pointing them out as we go after the last few years too. The ones that were pointed out, indeed proved to be terrible decisions. It was hardly "unavoidable"
And whatever was said needed a reasonable amount of detail and also be conveyed before the trade and draft periods. It shouldnt have to come from the coach. Our President & CEO need to be the ones throwing the toys out of the cot so it gets the media attention.
Previous poster said the club should come out and show us exactly what these comms where, this is 100% correct. I bet there wasnt one just some random BS comment made by Laura Kane to the media last year. how it might happen.
He kicks beautiful lace-out drop punts straight to the opposition. Don't believe the hype, he's a terrible kick.
Still reckon Zurhaar would slot in nicely alongside Lynch for a few years while we develop another KPF or two. Gibcus has to play forward next year with Balta and Miller looking set down back.
A forward line from Lynch, Gibcus, Zurhaar, Bolton, MRJ, Campbell, Mansell and potentially Dusty has a bucket load of potential. It's a great mix of marking power, speed, skill, pressure and experience.
BKJ - modus operandiSo you claim it was a mistake to get Taranto and Hopper but you need another 3-4 years before you can Captain Hindsight the draft and pick put the players we should have taken instead.
So how exactly are you able to form your opinion that Taranto and Hopper were mistakes, which you claim is right BTW, when you say you have no real knowledge of the kids that were drafted?
When the club made the deals that they did, I'd suggest they weren't expecting to finish 13th in 2023 and bottom 3 in 2024. They were likely expecting to be a top 8 side in both years which would have made the trades pretty good value.
Just an example, it’s the notion of bringing in any player(s) from another club with regards to developing our youth….Don't want anyone from that club. Rotten culture.
If accurate and they both wish to go? We will get back what we traded for Tim & Jacob and then some…The west Australian has an article claiming Bolton and Baker have met both Fremantle and West coast while back home over the bye
