File that under good idea, bad execution.

If Daniher and Fantasia were to leave, then yeah, mature replacements would be required, I don’t think Walker is a good fit nor do I think we should be trading Hurley to get him (or anyone, within what we would reasonably get offered for him).

In a situation where Daniher and Fantasia leave and we get a big clutch of picks in return I would be offering to eat a fair portion of Jenkins’ salary in exchange for giving them pick 80 odd and then trading in someone like Dan Butler (4th round pick) or Ben Ronke (involve him in the Daniher deal). Replace 70% of the production lost for stuff all and then use the picks gained to stack the midfield to the gills.
I think Jenkins would be a great pickup if we lose Joe to replace 35 goals a year.

I have always like Ronke, if we could add him to the Daniher deal I reckon that's a win.

I think Jenkins ticks a lot of boxes even if Daniher stays. If he is indeed willing to sacrifice as much salary as he says he is its a straight swap for Baugley in terms of money.

Would tide us over while we draft and develop someone else or worse comes to worse we get a couple of decent years from him and then he retires along with Hooker, Bellchambers, Zaharakis and Hurley and we are left with a bit of a war chest.

Reality is even if we draft a Riccardi/Jeka/Coomben this year or put our eggs in the Gown basket it will be 2-3 years at least before they are best 22 contributors.

Jenkins would provide an adequate solution and in reality would complement Smack and Stringer pretty well. If Adelaide are happy to stump up a pet of his wage it's a no brainer for mine. Apparently he is good mates with Hurley too?

I think Gown's best comparison is Brown... Mitch, not Jonothan. He is a lead-up mark, more like a flanker than a true KPF.

That's unfair IMO. He's got better hands than Brown.

Jenkins is a bit outspoken and he had a horror 2017 GF. Apart from that he's kicked almost 300 goals including 62 in 2016. I remember him kicking 5 on Rance (last year?) in Adelaide. Really underrated player.

So with trade period opening Monday here is what we do :p

*Baguley and Myers - Retire - Thanks for the service

*Houlahan and Long - Delist - Thanks for the service

*Fantasia and #62 to Port Adelaide for Sam Powell-Pepper and #29 - Gives us the inside bull we need and some draft presence earlier in the piece

*Trade Daniher and #47 to Sydney for #5 and Papley - Gives us a replacement for Fantasia who is a better player in my opinion. Gives us the pick early to try and grab a gun.

*Trade #31 and #37 to GWS for #18 - Gives GWS more points for the bid on Tom Green. (If they want I would also offer them #67 for a few more points)

Draft

#5 - Tom Green/Caleb Serong (Bid on Green and then take Serong. Dominant Midfielder, yes he is short but he hunts the ball and we need someone this dangerous)

#18 - Finn MacGuinnes/Luke Jackson (Bid on McGuinnes and then take Jackson as the future Forward/Ruck partner for Draper Ruck/Forward moving forward)

#29 - Harry Schoenberg (Another inside midfielder who know how to tackle and hunt the ball)

#67/#85 - Upgrade Draper

Have at me :p

So the plan is to go after an 18 year old named Harry Scrotemberg to cover the loss of Fantasia and Daniher. We are cooked!

Continue to say this but I'd prefer this role to go to Stewart/McKernan and develop the same style of player in the twos. Feels like we are just getting an insurance policy for our insurance policy.

Maybe, but I was talking about the type of player. Do you think he will become the KPF that we need without Joe?
IMO it’s hard to say early on with KPPs unless they’re a freak like Daniher. How they play as a skinny draftee vs how they play once they’ve bulked up and know they have the size and strength to physically compete can be quite different.

Essendon lose; Orazio Fantasia
Essendon get; Pick 16

Port Adelaide lose; pick 10

Brisbane lose; Pick 16, pick 21

If Port gave up pick 10 for Raz why would we include a 3rd club to get a lesser pick?

Wasn’t a fan but I’m coming around for Josh if Joe leaves.

They have to give something. If Essendon said we'll trade you fantasia for either Wines, Duursma, Marshall or pick 10 your choice what are Port off loading.
Please god no I'd take anyone except that knob end with the bow and arrow. If I went for Port I'd consider taking up a new hobbie.

Seriously wtf

I don't see any reason why we shouldn't hold Raz to his contract for one more season.

- It gives him another 12 months to get on the park and show the goods again. He will be motivated and end up with a bigger contract then he will get now.
- We benefit from that all season
- We get more than pick 10 next year
- Or we have some success and he stays, and reaffirms his champion status with us

It's too easy to forget what a super player he is. Even for pick 10 I'd rather keep him. The odds of him getting healthy are higher then us drafting someone with his talent with pick 10.
Play hard ball.

Take picks 5, 9, 16 to the draft along with picks 31 & 37 and we'll have a decent hand come draft night. Wouldn't surprise me if we try and bank our investments in the second round for future second rounders or even move up the order this year (or next).

Free Agent: Ruckmen from somewhere. I like what Zac Smith can do. Handy enough for 2 years whilst Sam Draper recovers.

Draft;
(Pick 5) Brodie Kemp - genuine big bodied player. Coming off an ACL but sounds like this kid could be anything.
(Pick 9) Luke Jackson - Best ruck from this years draft. With the picks we may likely have, I'd be going for a need than a best available.
(Pick 10) Sam Flanders - Best available.
(Pick 31) Cooper Stephens - Pipe dream but this is another kid who could be anything.
(Pick 37) Hugo Ralph Smith - An astutue pick that could become a utility type in the front half.
(Pick 49) Jake Riccardi - Best available and someone who I think will surprise many next year as a young KPF.
In your scenario, I don't see where Pick 21 went. I would prefer we landed 10, but it seems you intended that we on- trade to Brisbane for 16 and 21?
