Before this season he averaged 20+ games a season for the previous 10 years.
How about now? So how confident would you be putting on a bet or wager that chapman will have a full uninterrupted pre season and injury free year?

Obviously Geelong aren't pondering his future because they have faith he will remain fully fit and be a superstar, they are pondering his future because they are unsure of what he will contribute next season. Enright will be 33 next season, do you hear them talking the same way about enright? If it wasn't for all of his long standing services and contributions, I would more likely show him the door

2012 he kicked 38 goals, this year he got injured like some others but then came back strong in the last few games.
Look at our forwardline atm and tell me your not worried!......unlike Hawthorn, the reserves looked pretty underwhelming last week, Chappy might end up with them or the Pies, don't think Eddie would hesitate.
Anyway probably best thing for him!

I think we have some exceptional young kids coming through, I would take our kids over hawthorns any day. Smedts will be an A grader, as will horlin smith and thurlow, add in the already young guns we have in the seniors, and chapman may well be pushed down the order.

Chapman in 2012 was no star at all, he had his injury issues over the pre season, and this year his hamstring kept him out basically the entire year. So tell me how confident you are he will be injury free and on the park firing next year? You obviously know something Chris Scott and the coaches don't, because they obviously aren't at all or they wouldn't be contemplating it.

Like I said, I think smedts will be very good nest year, he is due for a breakout year, vardy will be much better, Hawkins if they fix his back will be much better, Schroeder may improve, and don't forget mid next year will be the return of Menzel! We have a lot to look forward to next year and the year after up forward and in our side, chapman or no chapman will make no difference to where we go forward in 14-15. We should only improve next year if some of the seniors can hold

Zero.
Same as everyone else on the list.
Rubbish, chapmans body is not in good physical shape whatsoever, he struggled to get himself on the park this year with hamstring problems, if that same injury had of been to a 22 year old, it would have been a 2-4 week recovery, because of chapmans age and body condition he struggled badly to overcome it, that is a big sign for someone his age the end is very near. He will be the same next year I he continues on, 32 and huge injury clouds. I doubt he will be a star at all next year. But I'm guessing all anyone here is basing their entire judgment on is against port adelaide

Alright,....that's not what Chappy says but if you want to roll the dice, they'll shut down Motlop, Hawkins back issue, as well Pods double teamed, no marking rucks, who's going to take some heat and kick goals???
Varcoe?

Goodonya.
I have made no comment whatever on his viability or otherwise next season.
I have merely pointed out the relevant facts about his outstanding record of durability, in response to your claims that he "struggles to get on the park".
I know nothing about his likely fitness for next season, other than that record, and the facts that he had a very good pre-season this year, plus a very good start to the season, and that he appeared to finish fully fit.
If the club's assessment of his likely fitness next season is unfavourable, that will no doubt be a factor in their ultimate list management decisions.

I just saw this on facebook I hope its not true .... keep chappy for another year
BREAKING NEWS

There is news Paul Chapman will not be offered a new deal by the Geelong Football Club, and as such Collingwood, GWS, and Richmond have made direct contact with Chapman's management
and make a play for him next week

Pretty dumb if true...

Let's be honest, he struggles badly to get on the park and is turning 32 before the end of the year, he is not going to barely make any difference next season. I am happy to keep him on for another year for all of the services he has given our club, but I expect smedts thurlow horlin smith to possibly even overtake him and even put him in the reserves.

May as well delist Menzel,McIntosh,Varcoe,Cowan,Simpson,Vardy,Sheringham,Hamling & Rivers, players who missed a lot of footy this year.

He's had 1 year where he's struggled with an ongoing injury. He's now recovered.

He only missed 2 games in 2012,2 in 2011 and just 1 in 2010.Don't think any were for suspension.

And for pretty much the entire season in 2012, he was sensational. Like Brent Harvey, he should have made the AA squad as a minimum that year and if the bar wasn't set so high with those players, they could have easily made the final 22. As an example of this, Chapman's 2012 output comfortably sits alongside Steve Motlop's 2013.

if he goes to collingwood....... **** THAT!!!!!

Give him a new deal geelong, seriously, wtf???!!

^^Smedts couldn't make an impact in the vfl gf, do we now expect one next year?

On the injuries, yes he hasn't had a full year virtually ever, however, has played 20 plus
for the last 10. So we disregard that, say over Brown who hasn't strung together enough games in
nearly half that time.

One injured year, doesn't mean he is broken down. This seriously is plain old dumb.

Hope he puts a curse on us if he is forced to end his career at another club. The people responsible for getting rid of him would deserve it. Seriously, would anyone here take Podsiadly on the list for 2014 ahead of Chapman? I don't think I'll ever get my head around why this is even being considered.

If Chappy goes to another club, I don't think I'll get a membership next year as a protest. Just for the one year. Love this club, but monumentally stupid to have HMac signed up who has literally done nothing all year except pull down a big salary, and not Chappy who has probably sacrificed $1mill plus over the journey, is the club's best ever finals player, and basically told the entire club to wake up after we were 2-3 early in 2007. A disgrace if true. Hopefully, they wise up and give him another year. Mooney was no good in his last year, but he hung around was a team player and inspired Hawkins to become a star and win the 2011 flag. Chappy can mentor a young kid to greatness. Make it happen Cats!

I'm hoping when Chris Scott sits down face to face, and Chappy looks him in the eyes and tells him he is hungry, committed and wants to finish his stellar career in the one jersey, any decision that may of been made goes out the window. This man bleeds Geelong colours, even if he plays 14 or 15 next year, you know it's going to be at a finals standard every time. When has he ever let us down?

I just find this whole situation utterly, utterly bizarre.

Chapman has had outstanding durability until this one anomalous season. He took a fair while to get back on the park, but as soon as he did so, there was no further recurrence of his injury. His form was borderline AA last year, and good to very good whenever he played this year. He kicked four goals in his most recent game, which also happened to be a cut-throat final. None of the kids coming through who play his position are even near his level yet in terms of output. We have some great young talent, but the queue of mids also features guys like Cowan, Schroder, and Stringer, who are all similar types with similar limitations who have each made very little impression at AFL level despite 3-4 years on either our rookie or senior list. The balance of probabilities suggest that another year or two of a still-firing Chapman is almost certainly going to be better for us than giving more games to Cowan or Stringer or Burbury.

It's not even the fact that not offering Chapman another year seems like a ridiculous decision to me. What I find most baffling about this is that it seems like such a manifestly ridiculous decision that I find myself unable to even comprehend the logic behind it.
