First of all, I am not a pimple-face. It has been many years since I got out of the acne stage of my life.

Secondly, I didn't know you based your list of best players on how they were off-field. I only really care about what they do between the first second of Q1 and the final second of Q4. How the Abletts live their lives off-field doesn't detract from their amazing ability whatsoever. You need to be clear and state it is a list based on character next time (also, if it is a list on how players are off-field, then why include Chapman? He was in a fight with females outside of 7-Eleven a few years ago, and his current actions of airing contract dispute through the media and refusing to do the "team thing" by accept the contract and mentoring our young players smacks of selfishness. So your criteria for "five best players" are really just your five favourites.)

Thirdly, and I quote you : "Not Chappy's fault, you remember. The club told him no." Well, sounds to me like you are blaming the club, and saying that the club turned Chappy down, and none of this was Chappy's fault. Ladies and gentleman, I present to you....a sycophant!

I see you are a moderator. Surprised that you didn't mod me just for disagreeing for you (believe me, some mods on Bigfooty have proven to be that petty). But then, using insults like pimple-face just shows how much of a bully you are, and should not be modding others for things you do yourself. Show some professionalism, and be the example (you know, like that list you did of the five "best" players, where your behaviour means more than your skill, except when it comes to Chappy. You don't hold him to the standards of mere mortals).

If you ever get on Geelong's board, I fear for the club.

Your avatar makes you look like a used-car salesman.

If I get modded for this post by you, I will now know why.

Nice whinge. It's dopes like you that stop me from posting more regularly in this forum. People who get offended from simple opinions.

I guessed your "type" the moment you didn't realise Saul Goodman was my avatar. Guess your favourite TV show is Vampire Diaries then.

Lock it up eh? The guy's not a Geelong player...

He struggled with a recurring hamstring issue throughout 2009. He even did it again during the grand final.

Looking at the stats, though, this was the first time he had missed such a substantial number of games due to injury.
Correct! I rest my case.

Little bit of my heart died when I saw this :(

I am so glad you dont make the moves at Geelong. Do explain how we showed him no respect? By offering him a 1 year contract on lower $ and not guaranteeing him senior games at the age of 32 and after he played only 8 games this year? "Supporters" like you annoy me no end - you want everything. You want us to be up there vying for a flag every year and you want us to magically play all the veterans until they dont want to play any more yet also bring through the next generation as a transition without bottoming out.
There is a very important word in football, 'MERIT'. I don't mind Joel Corey calling it quits, Hunt going to GWS, or Pods going to Adelaide (though I'd like to know who's going to provide a physical focal point in our forward line next year like he did). Chappy was 31 when we axed him. He'll play two more seasons at Essendon and retire at 33. It's not like he's 37 or 38. He is champ and was playing like one when we axed him...it's called MERIT.

Now, I have a question for you? In your opinion, did Varcoe deserve a game last year? Remember, MERIT wins games and flags.

That's why I said 'say' a Burbury....
Or McCarthy, Schroeder, Cowan, Hamling, GHS, Sheringham, Bews, Brown.....

Lets keep all our premiership players until they are 35 and let our future walk out for opportunities at other clubs.
If we didn't let Mansfield go (another champ of his era) then we would never have got chapman in the first place, circle of life mate.
Comparing 'a' Burbury to 'a' Chapman ends the debate. But I will condescend to engage...Where have a said keep them ALL? Chapman! This is about Paul Chapman. One player who has single handedly won dozens of games, finals, and a GF off his own boot. Gee, you blokes soon forget! The bloke was ripping it apart at the end of this year. He destroyed Port Adelaide when we couldn't get going. ALL of you were crying that he was going to miss the Hawthorn final....REMEMBER!!!

Comparing a bloke who can't make it at VFL level yet to Paul Chapman is just....I don't know.o_O

No. Talent, hard work, teamwork and a dash of luck goes a long way towards winning games a flag. Teams don't win flags and games because they deserve to (not always anyway), but because they were better on the day. Pure and simple.

Chappy was part of the reason we won flags, but so was Pods, JHunt and Varcoe. To promote one is to lessen the contribution of others.

Chappy may be 31, but his body seems older. He is the type of player who takes and gives a lot of knocks. That type of play, while great, wrecks the body quicker than someone who doesn't play the bullocking, tough style that Chapman plays.

I'm sure that if the club thought he could get through another season, they would have played him.

I just wish that Geelong would come out and say what exactly happened. If it is the truth, they won't be stepping on toes. They should say what they offered, and what Chapman wanted, and why they couldn't reach agreement. The club is doing itself no favours by allowing the speculation to continue. Chapman went to the press. Maybe the club should too, and present their side of the story, no-holds-barred.

Son Of Meto, you wouldn't give Varcoe credit even if he did get games on merit. You hate his guts. Admit it. I am just glad we didn't trade Varcoe, to stick it up all of you who wanted to get rid of him.

"pimple-faced", "dope". You're really a piece of work.

I bet you just became a mod to throw your weight around and lord over people. This site really needs to lift their standards for hiring mods, if they let the likes of you become a mod.

To be fair, Breaking Bad is only on Foxtel, so a lot of people wouldn't have seen it. I don't count one series on ABC2 as being on F2A either. I'd be surprised if one of the commercial F2A networks don't pick it up now that it's finished.

List management isn't your thing is it....

Hope you don't mind me popping in for a visit.

You guys have numerous threads regarding Geelong's trades for fourth and fifth round picks but I figured the Chappy one would get the most mileage.

Once again Geelong has firmed my complete and utter respect for their class and professionalism.

Obviously the decision to delist Chappy may have caused some division amongst your supporters (I was REALLY hoping he would make it to the Hawks), but once the decision was made your club showed the upmost respect for each of their departing players and did trades to get them to their desired destination.

Between this and your youth development I can see your club remaining a powerhouse for a damp long time. Great culture. Great development. Great respect for each other.

This post reinforces my belief that whilst the club may not have benefitted in a trading sense from letting these guys go, the players around the league noticed it and the goodwill it shows the club has to its player list may even be worth more in the long run.
This stuff matters. Plain and simple and while it won't get you a pick in the top 10, it might sway the mind of a FA on the fence about which club will do him right as a player....

Go Catters

Nice post , the pain from Chappy going is apparent . We haven't had the plethora of Flags you have had in the last few decades and the loss of a key player in our 3 is painful.
And by the way not every game at Geelong is wet ;)

Once again you avoid the question. How did we disrespect him? And now you say we "axed him"? Boy it's getting more dramatic each time. Is it because we didn't offer him exactly what he wanted? Is that what you want, for the club to just give in to the demands of all older players, so we bottom out when they all leave at once and the replacements haven't played any senior football?

I honestly want to know what you think the club should have done?
Not really sure what Chappy's contract has to do with Varcoe, but I will actually answer your question - no he didn't deserve the amount of games he got but I assume they were backing him and trying to play him into form. It didn't work.

Can we please lock this thread Turbocat? He doesn't play for Geelong anymore. :)

Build a bridge good luck to chappy time to move on worry about who is still on our list all the whining about it wont change things time to get a life or a gun
