With Maxwell apparently calling it quits…Ariel Steinberg for the pies 3rd rounder or Stein + 3rd rounder for a 2nd rounder?

Similar sizes, similar styles, Maxwell obviously the better leader and organizer, but Steinberg is better one on one imo. Very good intercepter and distributes fairly well

Cameron for Jetta and our second rounder.

Essendon get a quality forward and GWS get some pace around the ground. Win win scenario.

Edit: Also wanted to throw out there; Patton for 2nd rounder. Either trades are good.
Sucked in
Well to be fair eth dog, when something that stupid comes from someone calling themselves matty lloyd it's usually serious

The EFC is just a KPD production line aye? You've got them coming out the wazoo.

I think Fremantle might look to get a KPD. Maybe our third for Stein? I've never heard of him IR seen him play though

yeah we're very lucky in this regard. We'd be even richer if we could ever get Pears to stay on the park for more than 10 minutes at a time as well.

I've got a feeling the plan is to keep Steiny and basically just slot him into fletcher's spot whenever he calls time, but he's killing it in the VFL, so he's got currency, and we could in theory use him to climb back into this draft.

Only drawback to him as a player is he's probably 4-5cms shorter than what you'd call 'ideal' key defensive size

Melbourne's first round pick/s will likely be on the table - possibly picks 3/4 or 4/5 (depending on Frawley compensation).... Roos has stated we desperately need class midfielders. What could we get?

Would someone like Lachie Neale interest Melbourne? Obviously not a straight swap but maybe pick 4 for Neale plus our 1st (16-18)?

Would definitely turn that down. Neale isn't a pure mid and he's not of the quality you'd give up pick 4 for even with your first rounder coming back.

That's what I thought.

Freo would never trade him but would Barlow get pick 4?

Wouldn't mind this. I wonder to what degree Steinberg is on the radar of other recruiters.

You'd have to hope Gregory comes on ok though (not that I'm suggesting he won't), otherwise we'll be in a position of going from feast to famine down one end, like losing Gumby, Crameri and Hille at the end of last year.

Getting closer ... despite how good Barlow is I'd probably go to the draft and hope to snare Petracca or Brayshaw... although it'd be a tempting offer for sure
Who would you be chasing? Barlow is about as good as Freo has (bar Fyfe) and is A grade. Not much better going around.

I must say if I was Melbourne I'd be using pick 4 in the draft and not trading it TBH

Yeah i see your point. Last year, with pick 2 (and 20), we obviously got the Tyson/Salem deal. Apparently we chased Tom Rockliff and Rory Sloane very hard with pick 2 but obviously didn't land them. I see those two as slightly better, slightly younger versions of Barlow and I reckon that's the quality we'd be after.

I don't think you'd get Sloane or Rocky with pick 4 though

Still on the topic of Steinberg - would the Swans entertain a swap for Membrey? Seems to suit our surplus of KPDs and your stacked forward line, with both players kicking around the state comps. As I mentioned earlier though, not sure how much currency Steinberg holds, but he deserves a senior spot somewhere.

Sacrifice some of our strength to improve a weakness? (Goal kickers) If you were to trade him and then go into next year with Hooker, Hurley and Fletcher playing key back, with Gregory and Pears waiting in the wings, and Ryder and Carlisle playing elsewhere on the ground but capable of playing back in a pinch, you'd be pretty confident in getting by.

Like i said, happy to keep him if the plan is for him to be a key piece going forward. But if not there's not a lot of point letting him sit on the rookie list for another year, when he's coming off a career season and there are teams that could really use him

Yeahhh, I just looked at my post again, I wasn't very explicit - by "famine", I meant more in the event that Pears and/or Hardy gets shopped around (or delisted, for Hardy), Fletcher retires (or declines rapidly / cops injuries), etc., as well as losing Steinberg. If it's just him, we're fine of course. But I agree, more than happy for him to stick around if he succeeds Fletch in a reasonable timeframe.

And to be fair, I simply mentioned two of the most prolific defenders in the comp right now, and also didn't qualify what any sweetener would be.

Was simply to refute the idea that GWS would in any way consider parting with #1 for Garlett (in any combination).
Mackenzie shits on hooker and talia.
