Trade Kurt Tippett

Whoever agreed to that exit clause in his contract should be fired immediately. The single most pathetic thing I have ever heard of in football.
I don't 'hate' the exit clause, I'm not a fan but if it keeps a desire player longer.....then it's a neccesary evil (although a VERY dangerous precident). But if it's true that it's a 2nd round pick. that makes me ill and I agree with you that it's a horrendous piece of work.

If Tippett blew the AFL away the last 2 years and was the dominant forward in the competition could you imagine receiving only a 2nd round pick...

Lets be honest, he has potential and gives his all but I do believe he is one of the most overpaid players currently playing AFL.

I still wonder why GC would trade Day or Gorringe or anyone this year based on the fact that Tippo supposedly has an out clause on his contact that expires next year.

The 2 options for GC would be trade Day or Gorringe this year for Tippo
OR
Trade a 2nd round draft pick next year for Tippo

I'm no senior list manager but I just can't see why GC would give up so much this year for a player they could get next year for realitviely very little.

if the out clause is true it'a a major 'f*&k up' by whoever allowed it.

Correct. It is a disgrace...

Whilst I'm not sold on Day (he has NEVER dominated a game of footy at any level), his potential is enormous.
The problem we have in trading Tippett is that GC hold all the cards. The get out clause means that we are not going to get a gun in a trade for Tippett. Why would GC agree to that when they can hold out 12 months and get him for a 2nd rounder??

Personally I think the club need to get extra aggressive over this trade period.
Let's put Knights up and see what we can get. Could he be the key to getting one of the GWS 17 year olds? They want top 10 players, not draft picks and Knights is our 2nd highest paid player!
What about Dangerfield? What would he bring? I know we all love him, but is he ever going to go beyond 15 possessions a game as an average? Will he ever fulfill the hope we all have? Worth seeing what he would bring. Could we get 2 top 10 picks for him? Could we get a top 5 pick this year and one of the compensation picks from last year to use in 2012?
Put Tippett up and see what we can get, and not just with GC. Let's ask Brisbane what they would be happy to give for him?

I'm pretty much willing to put everyone up and see what we can get. Our squad needs a big overhaul and this might be a good year to aggressively trade for players or low picks. No-one will trade picks next year.

It's time for us to lose the 'pleasant to deal with' tag and get mean about it. Screw everyone else, let's look after ourselves for a change!

He's the most overpaid player in the history of the club.

Let this be a lesson kids - make sure you're 200cm and can jump. You'll get a contract anywhere.

Be interesting if he has another shocker of a year how much interest Gold Coast will have in Tippett? With salary cap issues and a gun young list it will be interesting....

A lot can change in 12 months. Dont forget that Bryce Gibbs claimed that he was supposedly coming back to the Crows after the expiration of his initial contract.

We will have a new coach and it could be a whole different environment next year and Tippett may reach the end of next year and make a decision that wants to stay.

The old saying of a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush holds true. GC can either pay now and trade to secure themselves Tippett or they can wait and gamble on the hope that he returns to them next year and potentially run the risk of never getting him back.

He's going to be valuable for them next year so they'd want to be 110% sure he's coming to them in 2013 for them to knock back a potential trade for him for season 2012.

Regardless of the apparent clause, I can't see Kurt screwing us over.

I hope you're right, but if that's the case why would the clause be in there. Firstly to say he gets to go where he wants, and secondly for something well below what he's actually worth. Without the clause he can request a trade to GC at the end of his contract and we'd at least get something close to what he's worth.

It's ridiculous the club would agree to it, especially given the likelihood that if they took him last year as an uncontracted player, we would have got a first rounder for him. Instead we put 2 more years development into him, pay him massive amounts of money AND give him the right to walk into the club he wants for a second rounder. We pat ourselves on the back and assume our wondeful culture will keep players at the club, yet we're one of only 3 clubs to lose 2 players to expansion teams (possibly 3 if Tippo walks as well)

It's a disgrace that anyone at the club involved in his contract would allow that.

We could trade him to Brisbane instead this year, that is why Gold Coast would want to deal with us.

a good deal would be kurt tippett + 2nd rounder for Pick 4(Wingard) and Jolly/Matera. Adding two classy midfielders would make Adelaides list very dangerous

I'm sure he's going to have the clubs best interest at hand when he says he wants to go home (if).

Also he may not screw us over but 17 other AFL clubs will if they know he has a 2nd rounder out clause in his contract

About 5-15 if you're Milne.

The amount of salary(700k) Tippett is getting paid could hold the crows back from building a premiership midfield. if the crows were on the cusp of a premiership and wanted to recruit a gibbs/cooney/pendlebury/selwood they would be unable to fit any of them in their salary cap due to the amount of space taken up by Tippetts salary. It would be similar to the Richmond tigers where they overpaid Richo and had a long period of no success

I think it is supremely naive to think any conversation would be 'off the record'. The manager would speak. People at the club would speak. Kurt would speak. If such a meeting was to take place, the media would know about it within 20 minutes. Probably before it even happened.

If it was only an informal chat, why would the manager have to be involved at all?

I'm sure Kurt Tippett and Phil Harper could manage to have a chat over a cup of coffee without his manager being involved. If not, what sort of relationship does Harper have with our players?

Clearly neither of you went to any matches this year. When the ball gets dropped on your head time after time with such predictable monotony that the opposition just triple team you, you're not going to have a stand out year. Not even if you're Wayne Carey.

I'd love to see this kid stay and play in a functioning, versatile forward line, with better service from the mids. He may be overpaid, but I reckon Id rather have him in my team than the opposition. Who, for example, would we play on him if he was the opposing full forward?

Lets hope the new coach can get some improvement out of us, give Kurt a taste of success and the promise of a premiership within the next 5 years. He wont get that at GC.
