I hope and trust I misheard, but did Barrett just say Sydney's offer to Buddy was a nine year deal?

Yep, that's the talk at the minute. 9 year deal worth approximately $10m.

If it's true (which I doubt) I would imagine it's similar to Giansiracusa's current contract, where it shifts to an off-field role (one year as a player, one as an assistant coach) after a certain period of time. Say a five year deal as a player, then four years as an ambassador or in a forward line coaching role or something.

This COLA is rubbish. Reports are it now costs more to live in Melbourne. It costs a lot less to live in SA and WA. So should these states get less salary cap. The answer is simply no. The AFL knows that Sydney and GWS can't survive in a rugby state without being in the top half of the ladder.

Why compromise the competition just to have NSW teams in the comp. It is time to change the name of COLA to TCOKNTITC (the cost of keeping NSW teams in the comp)

Sorry mate but WA actually has the highest costs of living in Australia. Perhaps check your facts before posting?

I'm fairly sure a recent study had Sydney amongst the highest-cost cities in the world.

A survey of more than 350 global cities found the rest of Australia was similarly pricey, with the land down under now figuring among the world’s least affordable countries.
Perth and Darwin emerged as the 10th and 11th most expensive cities in the world overall due to recent increases in rent and cost-of-living expenses.
Sydney is the world’s 12th most expensive city in which to live, according to the latest measure of global cost-of-living expenses.

Cheers, apologies for that.

Point is moot anyway - no team should have an allowance like that regardless as far as I'm concerned.

By pissing over my post you have actually endorsed my point. Why does Sydney get a COLA when other states cost more or less? But thanks for publicly pointing out my facts are only semi correct.

You are absolutely right. It is an archaic convention based on redundant circumstances and brings the game into disrepute.

Probably the most ill informed post I've read on big footy for a while... Check your facts before posting rubbish.

Sorry Moose-77, I was a bit too attacking when writing the above post. Please accept my apology but I am sick of a lot of people in Melbourne thinking that the country revolves them and making comments without considering what it is like to live in places like Perth where it now costs $500 a week to rent an average 3 bedroom home and $6 to buy a regular cup of coffee at a cafe.

Having moved across from Perth to Melbourne 12 months ago I can say Perths cost of living is higher but the rent in Melbourne is still a fair bit more than Perth. I'm looking for a 3 bed place at the moment and they're far more costly than $500

The AFL were very much looking forward to seeing buddy at GWS (at least privately), so I think they aren't particularly thrilled about this either tbh.

Anyhow, was listening to radio here in perth and the sport presenter mentioned that Dylan shiel was on the way out. Is there any truth to this?

Supposedly told GWS yesterday that he wants to be traded to Victoria. Nothing concrete yet but it's floating around.

The 3 bedroom price I am talking about is in Baldivis, 40 minutes south of the Perth CBD. I a sure they would be a lot higher closer to the city.

Ouch. If so that's a bad day for GWS.

He would be a very handy addition to the team thereabouts or looking at taking that next step. Surely he commands somewhere close to top 10 pick if contracted?
I'd go as far as saying he's worth around the top 5 mark. Has a lot of potential to become a star of the competition. Personally I'd be stoked if we used pick 4 to get him, especially if we were able to get a later pick back. Fantastic talent.
