Which could have been done if the week was condensed to lets say 6 days. Those trades took 2-3 days. Still have never got why they increased trade week. But maybe that is just me, and I'm fine with that.

Obviously they increased it because the players and the clubs wanted more time to get deals done. Sure its not as exciting for interested onlookers but other than that there really is no significant downside to having a longer trade period. Its particularly beneficial to players that are down the pecking order that often need to wait for the big fish trades to go through before they are considered.

Not every aspect of the AFL has to be a spectacle.

The trade period doesn't exist to entertain people.

Whoever the producer is at Trade radio, can you adjust the levels on the ads please, it's way too loud a switch from when they are talking to each other then go to an ad..Really annoying, anyone else find this a pain?

I think the trick is to make it the right volume level for the ads.

That way when they come back to them talking it is at the appropriate volume ;)

That's not why it exists, but the AFL would be pretty damn happy with how many people are talking AFL when the season is over... they'd consider it a pretty nice by-product that it entertains people
Yep. Keeps AFL on the back pages for 3 extra weeks a year, at next to no cost to them. Not too shabby

Your club obviously thinks differently, the way they bitch and moan about the compensation for him.
I personally think 39 is about right for an injury prone 2nd ruck.

If we didnt have Martin he'd be a first ruck. I just hope our medicos let the Essendon ones know about the alternative pre-season program we ran him on. His durabilty was much better this season, but if you throw him through a full pre-season he'll break down in 8 weeks.

I thought your blokes grabbed their pre season programs before walking out the door. :D

Depending on the sides trading sure there is. Look at Yarran for example, do you think he would like being in limbo for multiple weeks as Carlton value him to high and Richmond can't get the picks?

Could think of a few Essendon deals as well over the years (though I think you should stand firm on Carlisle)

The longer time, gives clubs multiple weeks to string players on, as they have until the last day to push through deals. Which some clubs do.

That is an interesting perspective but i think overall the better outcome for the players is achieved by having a longer time period. Being in limbo for an extra week or two as you put it is nowhere near as damaging as a trade not being done at all because there was insufficient time after other trades went through.

Yes i agree sometimes clubs hold off on deals to improve their trading position etc - That will be an issue irrespective of how long trade period is but ultimately less trades will fail due to lack of time if you have a longer trade period. I don't think you can really disagree with that - although some will argue how important that is.

I agree,

But I think there has to be forced mediation sooner, potentially forced decisions, for deals where it is obvious they are only being held up because of a Mexican standoff. For example: - Crameri (I am not using this as you are an Essendon supporter, but it was obviously a deal that was stagnant for sooo long which was not good on the player in my opinion)

There is a point where its obvious neither club is doing anything to get a deal and just stalling. I think at that point, the AFL steps in and says you can except, reject or proove that something is happening to get the deal done (or proove that the deal is waiting on something else). Not drag it out for obviously no reason.

Trade radio is weak. They go for 8 hours per day, struggle to find topics to talk about and replay old interviews all the time but now, with news that the Jetta trade is about to be finalised and that Rosa wants a trade, it's "Good night, guys. See you all tomorrow".

They'd be better off starting 3 hours later and finishing 1 hour later.
