I would take a fit Vardy over Butcher every day of the week. Given his injuries, a late 2nd rounder at best would be fair.
Overs..4th rounder at best! He will likely be delisted IMO

Taken at 42 in the 2009 draft and has played 25 games in 5 seasons. Sat out the entire 2014 season. Butcher was taken at 9 and played 36 games in 6 seasons. Maybe Vardy could be a DFA - I would be very disappointed if we wasted anything on him.

My hypothetical trade for the day:

I wonder if we could do a four-way trade with Carlton, North and the Giants - seeing Marchbank wants to go to the Blues, and Giants want their first rounder, and with North seeing interest in Tuohy:

------

Carlton: Zach Tuohy to North for pick 29

Port: Hartlett, Lobbe & Pick 9 to Carlton for Pick 5 and pick 29

Carlton: Pick 9 & 23 to GWS for Caleb Marchbank & James Stewart

Carlton: On-trade James Stewart to Port Adelaide as part of the Hartlett & Pick 9 trade

----

Port: Receive Pick 5, Pick 29 and James Stewart

Carlton: Receive Hartlett, Lobbe and Marchbank

GWS: Receive Picks 9 & 23

----

We get an upgrade in the draft order, which I think would be valuable and a KPF, whilst not losing out on any draft picks, in fact gaining North's second rounder. Im prepared for this to get torn to shreds, but thought i'd have some fun :p

I dont know why everyone is so hostile about vardy. With the currency we have we're never going to net us anyone higher than his type; even a dawes type. Anyone who says we can do better is being unrealistic. At best we can somehow find a podsiadly like state leaguer which dont come along that often. We could do geelongs pick 53 and vardy for our pick 45 which is nothing but an 8 pick downgrade and a player that fills a dire need. Our recruiting staff have proven to find solid players late in the draft anyway. Id take him

So we Trade out Hartlett, Lobbe and 9 for Stewart and 5 & 29.

When did Stewart become a very good footballer

I think the major concern is his ability to get on the park. If he's more or less cooked injury wise then what's the point?

Have it on authority from Todd Eltons family that he has been in talks with Port for sometime. Almost made the move last year and is very close again this year. Sees more opportunity to play a ruck role at Port than at the tigers.

Wouldnt think you would need to give up much for Elton. Pick in the 30s seems a win/win with Richmond getting more draft picks and Port get a young ruckman about to hit his prime as backup for Ryder

Problem there is we are after draft picks ourselves so wouldn't be wanting to.trade any out I would think..we have no 2nd pick as it is..unless Lobbe or Hammer net us some.

25 games in 6 years with 2014 sat out seems a good starting point. The suggestion by another poster that we may offer Amon for him is another reason. In main most people are indifferent.

Also, we go through trades getting held up by the teams who have the players we are targeting. Wasting time on a player who is unlikely to add anything to our list would not seem the way to go.

Sorry not trying to be a smartass, genuine question (I don't know him that well)... why would Elton be worth a pick around 30? Looking at him he has played only 4 games in 5 years.. and doesn't look to be smashing (based on stats) in the VFL... is there something that stats aren't telling me, for reasons him being around pick 30s?

We'd need a sweetener. Is Matt Arnott available?

Straight swap for Lobbe?

Assumming Maric retires we may need some cover for Hampson while Soldo develops

He idea that I'm being told repeatedly on the d and t board that a proven ruck coming off an injured and down form season isn't worth much while a guy who isn't even pushing for a spot in a team crying out for rucks or key position players is worth pick 30ish?

Elton must be close to delist material, and if a team trades for him it will be a pick in the 50's

If you want lobbe it will cost a pick under 40.

Elton forced his way into the team at the end of the year and is much younger than Lobbe. Will be a player if he stays injury free
