Oh c’mon. The idea that clubs have thrown money at Dougal is definitely true, but do we honestly believe that Davies/Cripps/Hinkley haven’t been the catalyst for that? That’s the height of delusion.

it’s quite easy to disprove his manager.

When did c4 first mention the offer to Dougal. His manager says he only considered offers after Cripps called him a week after his exit meeting. If c4 gave us his info earlier than that then his manager is lying.

If there's a quality player sitting in the reserves of another team, every single AFL club would be approaching their managers. To think otherwise is naive.

That doesn't mean the club gets a free pass to say look around to those players. Dougal should've been part of our future plans and should've been one we were actively re-assuring that we'll be holding him to his contract.

I must say it’s mind blowing that someone like Howard who’s really not done much as a AFL footballer can command half a million a year.

i know it’s big business and players deserve there cut of the cake but it makes working Joe’s salary look like a welfare hand out.
Numbers keep increasing so the salary cap keeps getting hitched up.

If the next cba is another step up. Just wait for the list of plodders who will be commanding 500k.

Not really. Players aren’t paid on what they’ve done, they are paid on what they can potentially do. Players being paid on what they’ve done is when it becomes dicey.

What people thoughts on SGrey now that Fantasia is staying at Essendon.

It wouldn’t surprise me if his worth to Port Adelaide has suddenly improved and he stays.

Probably right.
Unfortunately average performances from Farrell, Cox and Woodcock in the Grand Final might have brought our small forward expectations down a notch or two.

You said players arent paid on what theyve done.

Then you go onto contradict yourself in the very next sentence.

I didn’t contradict myself at all. Clubs pay for players on the basis of what they can see them doing for them going forward. It’s situations where there’s zero foresight and it’s all based on status that it gets awkward. Ie Orazio Fantasia in Teal.

We roll over all the time though when it comes to our players. Whenever we decide to get rid of someone we almost immediately decrease their value. Not saying it will be an Aaron Young or Hombsch type trade, but i can see them taking a 2nd round pick and championing it as a line in the sand moment where we only want players who are committed to the club. The club spin so much BS lately they are oblivious to the current supporter climate, so i put nothing past them anymore.

Said that Howard got a nice contract offer from elsewhere so was leveraging his way out of the club.
So now the full story comes out....

The foresight was:

If we're close to 8th and he's on the park, we might end up in 8th. Saving 5+ staff members from getting the sack.

Players never do, managers get contacted by clubs with offers and if they're substantial enough they pass it onto their clients.

Chad would have told his manager, at some point in the future if we're not winning flags here i'll probably want to go to Hawthorn to win some there.

Polec would have told his manager, my wife really wants to go to Melbourne, what's the best deal we can get.

Dougal's manager would have said, 'hey mate, 5 years, 3 million, front ended from Saints. What do you think"
It's certainly a meat market. All of the parties have no doubt got their own agenda. Thankfully Port hold the whip-hand on this one, and should bargain hard, but at what cost? Have gotta say in this case Dougal's manager's timing is terrible given he's contracted for 3 more years. I still say we make him stay unless we've got a ready made replacement at the same cost (in salary and picks) otherwise what is the point to all this?

Lol at how many people here shat the bed today after hearing one side of the story that was then pounced on and dramatised by the wolf-pack that pose as AFL journalists and media.

The anger, frustration, angst, and even hatred, has built up to such an extent, that if Doogs himself came on here and admitted in a signed affidavit that this had been in the works for ages .... Noone here would believe a word.

I suspected from the word "go" that there is much on this than meets the eye!

The average salary is around $350k.

$500k-$600k means Howard would be getting paid above average money for 5 years when he’s a decidedly average footballer.

To put it in perspective - Tom Lynch is only getting $200k more and he’s a premiership player that wiped his arse with Howard when they met at Adelaide Oval.

It’s $200k less than what dual AA and B&F winner Travis Boak was earning at his peak.

Is Howard 75% of these players? Meaning, is he a solid citizen that you can rely on and say “Yep, he’ll win more contests than he loses?”
If the answer is no...his management and anyone who thinks we should pay him his ridiculous demands should get ****ed.

You just know he wasn’t putting his body on the line in the back half of the season because he knew this was in the pipeline. The same way that Ryder was just going through the motions this year.

This really, really annoys the shit out of me. And it should annoy you too.
