Caddy seems like another Nuthin' Buckley to me...

"Playing AFL footy is hard enough as it is, so I think your heart's got to be completely in it," he told reporters on Thursday.
"To be completely honest, my heart wasn't completely in playing footy for the Gold Coast, just because I'd rather be living in Victoria."

Is it just me, or does that sounds more like Nuthin than anyone else?

There wasn't really much to gain, pretty much everything that has been discussed here, macca played a straight bat, didnt give anything away. Radar is 100% on bigfooty.

-Said scotland will miss games due to assault charges, wasn't sure if just preseason or not

-said we will move a player on if a gun player becomes available

- talked about bell wanting to stay with us but also wanting security and that's he's happy with his deal

- said we were going to have a go at cloke only if he couldnt come to term

-said that we are happy with our key forward stocks but need to keep everyone on the park, blah blah.

No new info at all. I could have done the interview

You know Stig, maybe we did and maybe we didn't.
If we did though we wouldn't have been the first and we definitely won't be the last. What sounds like a great idea one day turns to crap the next etc.
From the four guys you mentioned there, the only player I currently have absolute faith in making the A-Grade is Bootsma and only because he is somewhat unique.
If Casboult somehow improves on what we saw last year he may just choose to hang around long enough to force Mitchell to find a new home.
Dale and Buckley have a long way to go for mine and I'd sooner bet on them not making the grade than making it.

It's unfortunate though that we need to attach players names to these discussions as it comes out that we're rubbishing those guys when that's not the intention and no more so than would have been the case where we brought up the names Russell, Thornton, Bower or Kerr who are no longer with us.
You have to bite the bullet with your list and unless you're rolling in premierships you can't just turn over only 4 players a year. You will be left behind.

Definitely! Interestingly, there are similar discussions on this subject at Talking Carlton. For example, these three posts:

1) There are three ways to alter your list:

    • free agency

    • trades

  • draft

We have no flexibility to do either of the the first two because of diabolical list management, primarily by Ratts, and in the last 12 months aided by Andy M (i.e. prematurely signing up players... there wasn't going to be clubs chasing Davies, Joseph etc)
We kept Russell, Bower, Thornton when it was clear they were finished at Carlton; therefore, we missed out on the opportunity to draft Murdoch, Paine (who will one way or another be replacing Dawes) etc..... great to see we aren't repeating the same mistakes

We have the bare minimum involvement in the draft and even less involvement in the rookie draft because of our mismanagement!

Come Rd1, 2013 we will have just 3 players (excluding the upcoming draft) on our main list under the age of 21!

According to Ratts, this was at least a top 4 list..... meanwhile the teams that finished above us amazingly have the flexibility and ability to retool and improve through a combination of the three methods listed above

2) Excellent post!

And they are making it seem like we have chosen to be fairly inactive because we don't need much 'retooling'; however, thanks to list mismanagement, they had no choice at all but just couldn't tell us the truth.
Are we expected to believe that of the players going to new clubs over the past few weeks, none were better than a Collins, Ellard, Curnow, Joseph or Davies and that we actually prefer to have those players on our list?
3) It's clear that the list has been poorly managed.

Icke, McKay, Swann and Ratten are responsible. 2 are gone and McKay has had 1 season.

Swann oversaw the whole period, and we know he's a CEO who loves managing the footy side of things.

We have a non-finals team with no spots available on the list and no cap space. Fustercluck.

Just on Swann, I just watched the Blueprint (CFC TV Archives) on 4 Sept. again, and from 6 minutes in to the 10 minute mark he was grilled about list mismanagement and Ratten. On the subject of mismanagement of Ratten's contract, McClure asked him, "if it was your own business would you do it that way?" It is easy to see the reasoning behind the fringe player contracts after watching this video.

Medics puts Hamish McIntosh on path to Cats
Meanwhile, Carlton is favoured to trade ruckman Robbie Warnock to Greater Western Sydney, should Giants ruckman Jonathan Giles accept a more lucrative offer from Adelaide.

In light of the way Giants and GC have traded, they'd ask us to include 11 with Warnock to get him to the Giants.

I'd be interested in Bugg with GWS having traded pick 20 to Melbourne.

Lions make late bid for popular Pie
Geelong remained open to offers for talented forward Mitch Brown, who is contracted. Brown has drawn the interest of Fremantle, as well as a small handful of other clubs, and may move on after four years with the Cats. Geelong's interest in Melbourne defender Jared Rivers hinges on it being able to create a spot on the list for him

Wouldn't be opposed to having a look at this Mitch Brown if the price is right.

You forgot to mention this part from the Dawes article

It had been understood that Dawes' preference was to join Carlton, but the Blues insist he is not on their radar, despite his abilities being well known to new Blues coach Mick Malthouse.

And thank Christ for that ;)

I simply cannot see the merit in keeping Warnock on our list. We have Kruezer/Hampson as our main ruckman and we now have Casboult as a pinch hitting ruckman. IT just makes no sense to have Robbie running around in the 2s every week when those 3 can do the duties. Yes, injuries happen, but I'd be surprised if we strike as much bad luck with injuries over the coming years.

Carlton ruckman Rob Warnock, brother of Matthew, could follow his lead and join an expansion team. According to The Australian, the younger Warnock could be in Greater Western Sydney's sights if as expected, Jonathan Giles moves to Adelaide.

I don't want to lose Warnock, but I'd be more than prepared to let him go if an appropriate offer presents itself.

With picks 1,2,3,12 and 13 in the National Draft, GWS has the currency to make us listen to an offer.

They can go and get ****ed if they want Warnock without parting with one of those picks.

I could live with any of the following trades.

- Warnock for pick 12
- Warnock for pick 13

I'd consider parting with pick 33 on top of Warnock in either of those two trades, but ideally would want GWS to give us a later pick as well. But with GWS' next pick after that being in the 60s, I can't see that happening.

I wonder if we'd consider packaging Warnock and pick 11 to break into the top 3 picks in the draft.

Would far prefer a straight swap for 12/13, but I could live with being assured of one of Whitfield/Toumpas/Grundy/Wines.

Wasn't that article written by the same guy who said that Melbourne were going to trade #4 for Wellingham and Dawes ..............

Maybe... But I sure as hell hope not. Not 100% on whether I would like to retain Warnock or not. But if we could get pick 13 out of it. Surely we would take that to the bank.

I can't see Warnock being at the GWS next year ............ If they won't pay Giles, a guy who they already have on their list and is in their top handful of players last year, a decent wage (iirc they offered him less than $250k/year, which they are unwilling to improve on) then why would they go out of their way to recruit in another ruckman ??? Why would the trade out a quality 1st rd pick and pay Warnock what, at least $300k/year, when they could just keep Giles and give up nothing ...........

Didn't say alot:
- Will decide on Scotland penalty in due course. Will be games. Unsure whether they would be NAB cup or regular season. Completely Carlton's decision, but need to keep AFL informed as process continues.
- On the phone to Mick every day given its the Trade Period.
- Asked about Dawes. Said we have had preliminary chats with him, but it hasn't gone any further than that. Wasn't pushed for anymore answers about Chris. Definitely didn't rule him out.
- Asked if they had spoken to Gumbleton and if he had failed a medical. Said we had had a chat with him and decided he wasn't for us. Pretty much conceded that Gumbleton had not passed the medical.
- Andy Maher dirty he got replaced for B&F Host.
Thanks Ace, much appreciated. :thumbsu:

Warnock for pick 12 or 13 would be so good. Imagining the possibilities gives e Richmond like preseason delusions

Warnock & Ellard and our second rounder for #13?
If GWS were genuinely interested something like this may be in the ball-park.

Not sure we'd want to mix in #11 for a top three pick, although that may not be too bad either.

I'm a Warnock fan, but he wouldn't be worth that for the Giants who are years away from a flag. Think they'd forward on what they get for Giles if he leaves. Which wouldn't be a lot if you consider what they traded for Jacobs. ;)

We should ask for overs if they want a contracted player.

If Giles leaves, who is going to ruck for them in 2013?

Brogan is what, 33 next year? Good footballer but probably can't be relied upon.

They won't want to thrust a player like Grundy straight into it in his first year of AFL football, and I doubt they would think someone like Phillips is ready to take the mantle for a fair chunk of the season.

Folau? :D
