Trade Week Over - Who won, Who Lost??

I am very happy how Collingwood traded.

I had one priority on Monday and that was to get a ruckman. We did that with Wood who looks like he is ready to make an impact at AFL level. Having a proper ruck duo will really help our structure.

Also traded Davies for a nothing pick 96 however it helps to find him a new home where he can get a second chance. Plus we can use this pick on our father son selection in Jaxson Barham.

Very happy

Was good for most clubs with almost everyone filling their needs. So I will focus on the losers.

Adelaide - really went nowhere with those trades.
Sydney - a bit backwards, but who knows Playfair could be good for them like Richards
Tigers - only because I think they should stick with draft picks
The Bombers - were too quiet when I think they should have turned a few players over for pics. Sheeds would have traded big time!

Geelong on paper looks terrible but they did well to offload some players who were just taking up cap room and probably heading PSD anyway. The VFL side will be devastated though ;)

As with every trade week no one will know until a few years down the track when everyone will be comparing, E.G. Judd retiring after 2 more years of groin troubles while #3 has developed into a superstar feeding it to the most dominant CHF Josh Kennedy.

And Hadley could do his knee a third time. You never know.

Saints did very well, but Carlton nabbing the biggest name plus Hadley for practically nothing has us probably ahead. Very happy with trade week and was an exciting final two days - needless to say, my stress levels dropped dramatically after those first few days.

I don't know about the the Carlton trades. They got Judd ( with possible groin problems but let's assume his fit), Hadley and kept no 1 ( they get the ruckman Kreuzer who will take at least a year or two to develop).

But after no 1 their next trade is 36 so while they have added to their stock of experienced players (it should be remembered they lost Kouta and Lappin so they are likely to be ahead there) in terms of young picks the best may be gone by no 36.

So for a team that came last, they actually may not improve a great deal especially as Whitnall is declining.

Carlton got Judd, so it's safe to say everyone else is fighting it out for the minor placings.

We did well to end up with 4 picks in the first 22 for the loss of just a fringe player, a late second round pick and a guy who was leaving anyway.

The Dogs and Collingwood both did well to get a ruckman, which is something each club needed. Collingwood paid more, but got a player who should be around for a long time.

The Saints did well to get Schneider for pick 26, but will Dempster really add that much? King and Gardiner for 90 is an interesting one. Very short term for mine, who knows how much longer King can play for?

Freo did well to stay out of proceedings. No magic beans this year.

The more I think about things the better I think the Eagles did. The eagles lost both finals by small margins playing without Judd, Cousins and Kerr. they lose Judd but Kennedy supposedly should add a bit ( although I have my doubts).

In place of Judd, there are couple of young blokes- Priddis and Rosa - who may get a chance to improve.

And the Eagles get 4 from the top 22 to plug gaps with the cream of the draft. Pick 54 if used may get a recycled player and, if any decent players were in the PSD, they could get some talent there.

So a top 4 team has suddenly got the chance to reload their team.

I agree. A ruckman was important, and now Barham comes to Collingwood for draft pick 96 under the new father-son rule. It would have been great to get Brent Prismall from Geelong, but Mark Thompson said that his contract will be honoured because he is a required player.
And Hadley could do his knee a third time. You never know.
He only averages about 16 possessions a match and he doesn't kick many goals, so I think the pick 52 for him was reasonable. It's difficult for a midfield player to have two knee reconstructions and remain useful, but he should be good depth for Carlton.

The biggest problem for Carlton is Telstra Dome. The injuries that Hadley and Judd has are definitely not suited to that surface, and it won't improve in the near future either. Teams that play there often cannot see out the season and they suffer injuries.

Carlton needed experience to get the best out of its talented kids. We got Judd, apparently he is quite a handy midfielder, and Hadley another "young middle aged" player and kept our number 1 pick in a shallow draft. We lost pick 3 who will probably be a very good player, as will Kennedy, but I think most clubs in Carlton's position would be delighted with how they have fared. After the first few picks in this year's draft it may be something of a lottery.

If Judd gets his body right he is going to be a star for another 8-10 years.

West Coast Eagles did the best they could out of a bad situation.

Melbourne lost... Pick 14 for a Clubs Favourite son. Melbourne supporters must be absolutely riled.

St Kilda won.

Swans just confuse me, and Geelong giving away their Premiership ruckman for nothing (very cocky)
I think too much emphasis is placed on king been a 'premiership ruckman'
He did nothing all season apart from play a half dozen ok games in the VFL and stepped straight into a premiership winning side purely due to the fact that blake would have been monstered against port. I'm not sure about all the cat fans out there, but I wasn't expecting to see king back in the blue and white hoops again after that game.

The Saints didnt really win, apart from Schneider, who was a bargain. I reckon we were definitely the big winner from this year's trade week.:)

Time will tell

Your list needs to be rebuilt and you gave away a young player 2 early picks and half your salary cap for a great player who may not be around when your team gets better

The Eagles did well IMO, particularly the Morton deal. The Tigers paid for potential there which is usually dangerous, especially when its an Eagles cast off! They are the best developers of talent in the comp, and if they couldn't get much out of Morton, then I doubt Richmond will. Hope I'm wrong tho.

The Blues have done well enough, and Judd's body is more likely to holp up than give out, but his salary is going to cost you another quality player in the next three years. That should be factored in to the balance.

I like what Adelaide have done.. i think they have come out on top this week.

Carltons obviously done very well, but have given up abit.

West Coast also done well but lost Judd.

And St.Kilda have got 4 players for a 2nd rounder basically
