Trade Week Over - Who won, Who Lost??

as much as i hate to say it, the blues were definately the big winners over trade week. judd was a bargain for what they gave. he is worth at least pick 1,3 and kennedy. the saints have done nothing except get some recycled players.. maybe schneider adds a little but king is as good a pick up as gardiner last year. and although west coast have lots of picks inside the top 20 they should have pushed for more off carlton as they have lost their best player and possibly the best player of the last 10 years. the tigers have done ok as i don't know to much about morton however sounds promising while with mcmahon i'm not to sure although he is silky skilled.

I do not get why they traded on to WC for later picks even if its an extra one. They must have their eyes on a couple in that 3rd round range. The Eagles have done well there to compliment their other picks. How many in the top 30 for the Eagles?

Before the final hudson debacle I would have said we did not too bad.

Symes for Mattner, younger player, not as quick but doesn't make as bad decisions as Marty. So I would hope a slight win.

Meesen for Moran - pick 8 highly ranked ruckman at the time for a project player that is slightly taller and quicker. Could be an asset, could be a risk. Probably a better option than seeing what we would get in the draft for that pick.

We were doing nicely with pick 22 on the cards from the Bulldogs once they got 19 for Jordan, but then they decided to move 3 places up in the third round and sent pick 22 to west coast  We were never going to get the value we wanted for Hudson as he nominated Bulldogs and the threat of him going to psd for nothing was there. But for a while we were happy with the possibility of pick 22.

overall I would say a C-

i think saints did OK.

we strengthed our list with schneider.

we added a bit of depth with dumpster.

I'd be surpised if either gardiner was with us in 2009, but lets hope for a massive increase in form from both over previous seasons.

King IMO is just a free ruckman > Rix and blake at st kilda.

van rheenan is 2 or 3 seasons from fruition and brooks hasn't worked out so far.

wouldn't say we were uberwinners.

IMO i'd be looking at carlton who came out wth judd and their no.1 pick intact.

WCE who have about 1/2 the top 20 draft picks.

Brisbane who have a geniune gun

Richmond picked up 2 quality players while retaining 2 picks in the top 20.

IMO we did ok, we didn't go backwards. 4 players? meh 1 goodish player 1 former gun who may get 1 to 3 seasons of solid football, 2 GOPs.

Carlton - won - Picked up one of the best players in the league.
Collingwood - won - Boosted one of their glaring weaknesses with a quality young Ruckman.

West Coast - Lost - Lost one of the best players in the league for average compensation.

The rest - Meh -

4 in the top 25. :thumbsu:

With massive question on his fitness.

West Coast - Lost - Lost one of the best players in the league for average compensation.

Better than a big fat ZERO. :thumbsu:

4 picks in the 25 isnt at all bad.

Without sounding cruel how many of the players traded in the 17 trades were top shelf. In my view one - Chris Judd. Others were the wrong side of 25 and others were up and coming players. The jury is still out on Kennedy.

Also how many good draft picks were traded. Out of the top 22 trade picks, only 3, 14, 19, 20 and 22 were traded. The Eagles got 3 of them.

When all is said and done, not much of quality was traded and not much of quality was given up.

Only the Eagles, Melbourne and the WB traded into the top 22 and only Carlton, Collingwood and Richmond traded out of the top 22.

The biggest problem for Carlton is Telstra Dome. The injuries that Hadley and Judd has are definitely not suited to that surface, and it won't improve in the near future either. Teams that play there often cannot see out the season and they suffer injuries.

Yep, those five games at Telstra Dome are really going to kill our players.

Big winners:

Carlton - got Judd and Hadley for bargains.

St Kilda - got something, lost nothing.

Melbourne - receieved over the odds for Johnstone and paid under the odds for Meeson.

Adelaide - really went nowhere with those trades.
Sydney - a bit backwards, but who knows Playfair could be good for them like Richards
Tigers - only because I think they should stick with draft picks
The Bombers - were too quiet when I think they should have turned a few players over for pics. Sheeds would have traded big time!
Some fair calls there

We don't have hAckland.

See your problem is youve added mpore average players onto an already average list....

Its like if you have a bucket of shyt.. and you go out and you get another bucket of syt.. you have two buckets of shyt...

Tell me one player you have brought in thats going to add some star quality???

We know your list has 6 or 7 very good players.. its the average players that come after those 6 or 7 that let you down....

Why add to them???

You do it each and every year...

Collingwood have recruited a player that would have won them the Prelim this YR.

Carlton may have netted a player that "might" get them into finals, but Collingwood have secured 1 who will enable them to seriously challenge for a premiership.

Cralton's recruitment of Judd makes them the clear winners of the trade period (by a long way).

However, I don't understand why they would want Richard Hadley, a guy who has had 2 knee reconstructions, and faces the prospect of playing some home games at telstra Dome.

i loved our trades!
out: judd, morton (thank gawd), and some crappy picks west coast wouldnt have used anyway
in: kennedy pick 3 20 22 ...thats 4 picks in the top 22 (pick 13 inc)

pretty happy with that! :)

For the second year in a row we have kept our earlier picks so I am happy.

We effectively traded Moran and pick 96 for Davies, Power and improving our third round pick from 48 to 37 which seems to be a reasonable outcome.

People who don't support West Coast, obviously don't understand how important Judd was to our team.

We lost big time and that will be the case unless 2 our of Pick 3, Kennedy and Pick 20 become superstars. We all know how unlikely that is.

Big winners, Richmond and Saints. :thumbsu:

The reasoning being firstly we wouldn't have used pick 52 in the draft so we basically got Hadley for nothing. Secondly he is a defensive minded midfielder and we don't have any. He also can go back and play on the O'Keefe type. Very handy pick IMO
