Thing is, if he has been told by the club that he won't be kept, then he has probably told other clubs that. Or they already know. So they can just get him as a FA.

Collingwood have killed it this off season. First time they have been to the first round of the draft and they have a nice block of picks at the end of the teens so they won't have to make any hard calls as they can grab all the sliders that they rate. Lost 2 first 22 players for good picks and got all their picks under 40.
