Correct, but you'd have to say the odds are far greater that Cotchin will play out the yr in the seniors, than Wellingham.

I see Cotchin as a player with the potential to be a keeper, and start on the ground. Much like Palmer. I rate him that highly already...

I am thinking of doing the same. I cashed Tuck for Browne last week and this week, I intend to cash Bird for Wellingham (also Rioli > Chapman). Next week, I'm planning on trading Houli > Cotchin and starting Cotchin on the ground for about 4 weeks until Browne & Wellingham mature, after which I'll upgrade Browne to a Gun, downgrade Wellingham to a cheapie and keep Cotchin as Emergency cover for the rest of the year.

I think Wellingham should play at least 5-6 of the next 7-8 games, which should be enough for him to make a tidy $120k+.

It's risky, but I started with a similar tactic (lots of rookies/cash cows in the mids) and it's stood-up so far. I've only used 4 trades to this point, so my 16 trades remaining are a crucial factor that will allow me to follow through with all these upgrades.

Palmer, along with Stevens, will be amongst my final trades for the year.

I think you should wait dazza. Bartel will be at this price again and with a team as strong as yours you can more than afford to let palmer peak. Dont be too eager.

I have bigger problems cos my team is very ordinary compared to yours.

My forward line looks like this.

Pavich, murphy, BJ, Burton, Porp, Fevola, Brown (Riewoldt, N thomson)

Thinking of trading.. Riewoldt to Valenti to free up some cash.

It gives me alot of money and i think my forward line is ok without him. Fev is the other option but he is in great form this year and only averaging 2 points less then reiwoldt but is worth $ 50,000 less.

Someone talk me out of trading riewodlt.

My forward line has probably been top-heavy too, with too much cash/points on the pine (while last week I carried 2 donuts in the backs). In the forwards, I loaded up with Premiums, who have mostly flopped (Riewoldt, JBrown & Lucas), while my more speculative forwards (Hill, Vince, Porps, Aker, Rioli) have gone BANG!! I already downgraded Lucas to Gamble, but without suitable forward downgrade targets up forward since, it's been difficult to address the balance.... until now! :thumbsu:

I suggest you downgrade Nathan Thomson this week. Once Riewoldt comes back (only 1 or 2 weeks, according to the man himself), downgrade another Forward... I agree with trading out Fevola. Riewoldt is going to be in the top 7 forwards. Keep him if you have cover (which you currently have stacks of!)

Someone else asked.... who was on your bench before Riewoldt got injured??

PS. Valenti or Wona will have to return to the rookie list once Grimes returns, so be conscious of that.... But at $72k and with a solid 8th Forward, it's not a stupid risk. Take a look at Playfair too, playing his 3rd game this week. He looks like he could be reasonably safe Emergency cover for the duration.

bank: 71k
So you do 5 trades over the next 3 weeks and get this
cornes
shaw
goddard
burgoyne
milburn
birchall
myers

sdt
proud

bartel
kornes
cross
scotland
murphy
stevens
wellingham
bird

cox
simmonds
west
meeson

chappy
pav
riewoldt
brown
bjohnson
deledio
porps
gamble
tippett

Ok ...i can see it now. Mate it'd be nice looking and if you;re committed to take the risk for the season to be in with a chance then go hard.

Personally though i;d be taking a little more time with getting the 3 guns in. I'd be doing the cash trades first then Johnson next week...THEN spend up on Bartel and Cornes the week after.

The backline (as u said) is a major problem as it is for everyone.

Problem is that just ONE zero from any of those guys (or Myers dropped) and you've dusted 3 weeks worth of reason to upgrade to Bartel (extra 30) or Kornes (extra 25). With no reserve and no cash left to switch and 7 trades left by halfway.

By waiting the extra week for Bartel and Kornes (who arnt about to go anywhere in a hurry) you buy yourself options without losing the trades....and it only costs u 55 pts to watch how Myers is going and just in case there's an injury down back. If u cop one down back (odds so far say u will) u'd be down to 6 trades at the halfway mark.

Luv the team you;re aiming at...i;d be doing the cash trades first tho and an extra week or two of patience at next to no cost to you. You;re risking a large chunk of upgrade benefit from Bartel and Kornes when there's no need.

Could pay off tho if u get lucky and u need luck with injuries regardless so go for it.

Yeah thanks dingo. I had rioli on the bench before reiwoldt got injured and traded him to brad johnson. Ok you guys have convicned me to keep reiwoldt.

Thomson to valenti
and
nicoski to mimburn

Same boat here mate, with regards to Cotchin starting for a few rounds.

Trading Jack to Swan and Rioli to Chapman this week which would leave me with 11 trades and around 10k in the bank.

I have Browne and Geary on the bench at the moment and i see Cotchin a must get considering his upside. I have to trade Gibbs out, so i'm thinking trading him down to Cotchin, starting Cotchin for 2 weeks then upgrading Browne to a Corey/Bartel after those two weeks, maybe three weeks.

I would probably loose 20 points every week playing Cotchin but will save 1 trade doing this if you think about it. I would also have Geary on the bench instead of a 72k player that won't play for the rest of the season.

Things might happen on the weekend that might change my plan but i can see my trade next week being Gibbs to Cotchin.

I am trading Symes to get Bock (costs $22,000 and leaves me with $23,600)

I am also considering trading Roger Hayden (out for 5 weeks and only Nathan Brown as my backup defender). Can't pick who to get for him:

- Ibbotson
- Barry
- Ellis
- McPharlin
- C. Bolton
Am leaning towards Ellis but not 100% sure...

Thoughts??

Didnt really give u any advice...u obviously understand the risks you're taking and are happy with it. Trusting that confidence isnt a bad thing.

Sometimes we can play it too conservative and get caught shitty about it ...better off being top 50 and no trades left in round 19 than top 1000 and 4 trades left and washed up.

Good luck with it.....i;d STILL be keeping Palmer tho :D...AND getting Cotchin in next week :D

My current team is:

BACKS: Cornes/Myers, Birch, Burgoyne, Bradshaw, Shaw, Milburn & Goddard

CENTRES: Cross, Palmer, Hayes, Kornes, Stevens & Murphy

RUCKS: Cox, Simmo

FORWARDS: Pav, JB, Deledio, Rioli, Riewoldt, Porpz & Didak

I have 169k in the bank but Im trading Rioli to Chapman.

My question is is it worth trading Palmer to Bartel next week by cashing in Masten for Cotchin? Or should I just sit tight?

not even palmer is a keeper. first year players are inconsistant and are prone to needing to be rested. and people on the collngwood board think sharrod could play out most of the year.

The reason i say Palmer is a keeper, is that Freo have no midfield, aside from Bell who is about to retire.

Sure, he might tire, but he is getting leather poisoning right now, and has been since he debuted.

Like Joel Selwood last year, he'll be a wave worth riding all the way in for mine....

if he does become the joel selwood of this year it will speak volumes for his talent. unlike selwood palmer is just about going to get tagged every week which is a disgrace. don't get me wrong he is one of my favourite players but i'm not looking forward to him being tagged by the likes of cameron ling.

The main difference is Joel Selwood had Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Corey all getting a tag before him.

Palmer is likely to start coping a tag, this will wear him out later in the season.

Slightly off topic - since it is going to be a Rd10 Trade. I am going to trade Houli to either Bartel or Corey. Am leaning towards Bartel at the moment. Anyone give me an argument to go Corey instead? It looks like similar numbers of DT people have each of them.

can either trade:
Rioli and K.Tippett out for Chapman and Valanti

i have T.Cloke, K.Tippett, Rioli and Gamble and am looking to trade 2 out to get Chapman and Valanti

T.Cloke - potential gun who could avg 85 from here on, will go down alot in money this week eg: 20 - 25k

Rioli - reached peak of value and has BE 74, will play every game

Tipett - money to make on him, will play every game bar injury, is my worst forward

Gamble - may not play every game especially when Ottens returns, money to make on him, 2nd worst forward

jimmy may ease up and be rested like last year over the last few weeks of H&A season. J.Corey has same potential to pull big numbers. Bartel likely to be tagged before Corey. Bartel is of the finest dtmers as he marks, goals and tackles with his casual 28 posses im the same situation as you in 2 weeks time

Tipett - money to make on him, will play every game bar injury, is my worst forward - Think that if you are bringing in valenti you need a bench player who will play the entire year.

Gamble - may not play every game especially when Ottens returns, money to make on him, 2nd worst forward - i disagree. i think he will just about play every game. still has money to make and has looked a better player the past ew weeks

my thoughts in bold

someone rank my 4 players considering how many games they will play and how many points they will score from here on in.

Rioli
T.Cloke
Tippett
Gamble

1,2,3,4

Could go either way with Rioli and Gamble, but if you're wondering who to trade this week then it has to be Rioli as he has basically peaked. Gamble still has 2-3 weeks left in him. If you're looking for a 7th forward to keep all year then Rioli is definetely your man. Tippet should only be kept on bench and put in for injuries etc. :thumbsu:

will this man be a better 7th forward then Rioli i dont want to play a 1st season players a s my 7th forward as they struggle to finish off games come the end of H&A

Gamble could score the same as Rioli from here on in and Mumford should be dropped for Ottens when he returns
