Tom McDonald is going to be a gun CHB for Melbourne, just turned 20. I highly doubt that he would leave Melbourne anytime soon. One of their most promising young defenders. Having said that, i would take him in a heart beat. Tom McDonald that is, not Joel.

I have a source who is in well at Melbourne who tells me we are seriously into Joel McDonald. Didn't say what Hawthorn are offering Melbourne for him, but in the last week of trade period look for Joel McDonald to be traded to Hawthorn.

He's not even in Melbourne's best 22.

At the time we signed Kurt Heatherly and up until now, he has grown a lot and bulked up quite a fair bit and he is still only 17 will keep on growing.

People are just confused with who you meant, not 1 Hawthorn fan would be happy if we landed Joel MacDonald, he is 28 and like others have said a poor man Tom Murphy.

Tom McDonald would be an amazing get but he is like 20 and the future for the Dees, we would love him but can't see how we would get him.

So which McDonald is it lol?

Yes, but.

Kid can play and, based on the recent news re Toy's heart condition, I'd take him over Josh Toy.

That said, I doubt he's be top 22 until sometime 2014. Therefore, I'd query how interested he is in stalling his career behind the likes of Ellis, Guerra, Burgoyne, Puopolo, Suckling, etc. His career would be better served getting games.

If he comes here cheap-ish, then I'd grab him for sure. Worth a pick on the 20-40 range though, and we only have one of them...

Personally i wouldn't be interested in him. He was a ball magnet through junior levels but hasn't really cut it at AFL level just yet. Port are playing him in the backline but i think he would excel in the middle. Is he better than our young midfielders maybe, is he worth losing our pick 27 over, no way.

If the rumours of Gysberts to Geelong for a third rounder are true I don't know why we wouldn't make a play. I really rate him as a player

Jacobs was a first round pick 2 years ago and with 2 years dev in him I can see us needing to offer a second round pick to get him. Can we do better in this draft? Not sure but he is tough and 185cm so good height.

I also like Gysberts. I'd offer our compo pick for Young for him if young goes and we get the expected pick 42.

If we can get him for free I don't see why not. Will get some nice tips from Buddy, Roughy and Lake and Box Hill is in desperate need for a key forward. Our Key forward depth is pretty lacking also.
