Interested in what other people thought. I went down there, but I'm not much of an observer of skills. Here's what I did see:

- Setanta is cool. He's just running past and says hello to my sister and I.

- Speaking of my sister, she took an awesome one handed mark off a stray kick, protecting her camera with the other, prompting a 'Great grab' from her hero, Brad Fisher. Made her day.

- Juddy is incredibly nice. Posed for the same photo twice after I messed the first one up.

- Chris Johnson fits in well. That's it. Although Fev was sledging him when he was doing kick ins. Comedy gold, especially when CJ missed his target.

There we go. Everybody add on with your own info.

For about 20 min half the squad were down at the Lygon St end doing stoppage contests which was fair enough, but WTF were the other half standing around at the other end for? They were gathered in two lines facing each other and pretty much did nothing for the whole period.

Bradley is still amazing. He was running half-laps with Bentick, and was along side him, giving him a rev all the way. Bentick was getting close to empty at times but Braddles wasn't.

No numbers worn, so it was a bit hard to pick people out unless they were close. Fish still has the brace on. I noticed that if one of Setanta's kicks wasn't to his satisfaction he'd drop and do three push-ups - good to see that kind of self-discipline. Walker looks cut and Robinson has some great movement.

I can't say there were perfect skills on display today, but fair enough for mid-Jan. Apologies for forgetting the camera.

My quick thoughts.

Kreuze looks really good - starting to fill out and looks a great shape for a ruckman. Skills are silky too.

Eddie loked to be working pretty hard in training - hopefully a sign that he can play up the ground a bit more.

Yarran doesn't look like a good trainer. Whether this means anything has been done to death so I won't go int it here. Silky as all hell though.

Setanta looks in GREAT shape, as does Cloke.

Watching the injury grup, Armfield and Browne really seem to fit in well - they were bossing people around and really leading things which is a great sign from kids in their second year.

Robinson also seems to fit in very well and looks the goods.

Beyond that, not much else you can take from it. Just before they went into the "game" drill, they were doing long kicking on the diagonal across the ground and the skills bordered on atrociouos at times, which is a bit of a concern.

I have a couple of photos which I'll post later.

How about Judd........

I was looking for the bald man,

He now has hair again !

Yarran looks physically ready to make an impact year 1. Tree stump legs.
Stevo looked sharp, some great plays in those stoppage drills.

Bower seemed to be in the injured group, (I left after an hour or so however...)
Did a lot of handbal drills, I never knew so many varieties were possible.

There was a great vibe amongst the boys, you can see how much Fev loves it at the Blues.

Did CJ look like he was getting ready to be your designated kicker next season or were they rotating the kick-ins?

I think the role of designated kicker has reduced with the new law enabling the fast kick in.

If someone is in space the closest player will just grab the ball and move it on ASAP.

Its only when everyone looks covered does the ball go to the designated kicker.

^Here are some pics from today,

Was good to see the boys again today, really making me hang forn the season to start.:thumbsu:

Check out Yarrans "tree stump" leg in the 3rd pic.

4th pic.... I'm pretty sure I saw that play & a few others from Walker & Ellard at the stoppage drill, as they both slotted several through for goals.

Nice pics :)

Exactly what I was thinking. Creepily, I think it was TG who dubbed him "man-child". Good luck knocking this bloke off his feet. Be like tipping an SEC sub-station on its side.

Nearly every recruit spends years in the Gym trying to gain weight.
Carlton have stated that they woud like Yarran to get from 87kg down to about 84.

I'm not all that worried about Yarran possibly looking like a laconic trainer.

+1. Yarran's a natural and game day performer......I hope we can just accept he may not look like he's busting a gut on the training track, and build a bridge.....if we start getting posts about this ad-nauseam it is going to get whiskers on it very quickly.

^After watching him at training a few times i just get the feeling like he is maybe struggling a little to fit in amongst the boys, maybe he is a little shy but to me he just looks like he is just holding back, when you watch him in some of the drills he looks like he could but doesnt want to go after the ball, which would definitly suggest a confindence thing.Comparing him to Mitch Robinson he just looks like he has fitted right in amongst everyone.

As i said iam only just guessing and drawing from my own experiences when i changed clubs back in the day of my teen years i remember feeling the exact same way!

Once he settles into the club and comes out of his shell and gains confindence he will be an out and out star!

Also i noticed Judd and Walker are inseparable at training, and from what i've read Judd has taken him under his wing this pre season.Just looking at the two together they are so similar in size and athletism, there pace and indurance...if Walker starts playing with the same footy mindset as Judd..... Lookout everyone!!!!

Just a further point to Judd and Walker, I noticed that they jogged a couple of laps together after training.

Also, with Carlos, when the list did some end of end work, Carlos lined up on Fevola at FB, and did a reasonable job, until the rotated him off Fevola and Jamo had his turn. However, towards the end of training, Ratts was at CHF kicking into the taller forwards on the lead (Cloke, Kreuzer, Edwards) and Carlos joined in in this drill as well.

Unless he just wanted to do as much work as he could, I just wonder if the club are going to look at him as their tall utility.
