K Dawson entering Arden street Gym
This bloke appears to be giving himself the best chance to maximise his opportunity to become an AFL player.
How do you know the exact time the players enter the gym each day?
Are you the bloke who hands out the towels and water bottles?

To be fair, we've all probably gone straight to a Sunday pool session from the nightclub (via kebab shop) and done it in our undies....

NORTH MELBOURNE

RETURN DATES

First to four year players – November 13

Others – November 20

WHO IS FIT?

A strong contingent of Roos have been regularly in at Arden Street over the off-season, with the likes of Will Phillips, Bailey Scott, Harry Sheezel, Josh Goater, Tarryn Thomas and recruits Toby Pink, Dylan Stephens and Bigoa Nyuon all at the club on Friday. Young midfield gun George Wardlaw has shrugged off a 2023 campaign that was hindered by injury and is fully fit to start pre-season.

WHO IS STARTING ON TIME?

Injuries hit youngster George Wardlaw last year but he is set to be right to go to start pre-season. Ruck Hamish Free (shoulder), Cooper Harvey (shoulder) and Cam Zurhaar (ankle) will all be on modified programs to start the summer. Arden Street Oval is starting on time for pre-season but the Roos will be forced off during December and January for works on the surface, with North Melbourne to train at La Trobe University in Bundoora.

WHO WAS IN FOR SURGERY?

The bad news over the off-season was elbow surgery for youngster Brayden George, while Luke McDonald remains in rehab nursing a serious hamstring tweak. Griffin Logue will miss much of the 2024 season due to an ACL injury. Charlie Comben (ankle) also had minor ankle surgery.

NEW FACES

Zac Fisher also joined the club from Carlton, while Stephens, Pink and Nyuon will all be out to win a spot in the side ahead of round 1

Notes from a mate:

Love that Tyler Sellers is there. Would love to see us pick him up 🤞

I stopped by briefly. Not sure who it was (or why they were doing it), but someone kept yelling PINKY! every single time Toby Pink had to kick the footy during a drill. It was cracking me up.

I'd thought it was only meant to be early-career players, but a lot of others were there too who I didn't think fit that (captains; Thomas).

My visit made me curious: is watching the full training a thing people do?

Yep, plenty of people go down to watch the full thing.
It's one of the benefits we have of being a smaller club and I love it.
Would be down there myself if I wasn't working.

That is cool! I left pretty quickly but now I kinda wish I had stuck around... It was pretty interesting watching them, even just the structure of the drills. Maybe I'll come back on the Wednesday.

Once pre season settles in and everyone is back you get a better sense of the “good days” to go and watch. Some days will have more action or competitive style training than others.

Rehab group looking to be eased into it:

LDU
Comben
Wardlaw (Joining in here and there)
George (still doing kicking drills with his arm in a brace 😂)
Powell (Same as Wardlaw)
Drury
TT
Lmac
Griff (Out halfway through the session doing run throughs)

Light session so far for the rest, good numbers with a fair few senior blokes coming back early. Simple drills so far and a small running block. Goat needs to seriously build his tank, he was lagging behind with Hamish Free towards the end of the running.

Any of the new recruits there?

Probably works at Nick Theonousis Prestige Cars, polishing bumper bars on a Sunday morning
I work at a large government institution which houses some of the state’s finest on a short to long term basis….

When I drive over the weekend to work I take the opportunity for an early morning walk around North Melbourne. It is a more pleasant environment than my work place I can assure you all

In Cunners last training video where they mic’d him up, Goats did say he’d now be odds on for last in the shuttle runs. Definitely an area for improvement.

He’d be a fantastic option as a specialist sub (the footballing variety). He’s versatile and could replace just about anyone. But assuming no one is injured, sub out a wardlaw or phillips 5 mins into the last qrt and just have Goater go ballistic on a wing until the final siren
