Have been told by a reliable source today that Brayden George will be playing in the back line next season. He’s up for the new role and looking forward to the challenge. Watch this space

We’ve got fisher, sheezel, goater, Bergman, archer, lmac and hardeman already in the backline in a position that BG would most likely play in the backline. Where does his fit in? And who does he replace?

Either way brayden george will start in the vfl

Adding some versatility to his game can’t hurt

Realistically Dawson is a utility, Chom can go forward and Goad is a forward so it a while off but it’s not all defenders
Successes of going Back but started as a Forward…

Fairley
Longmire
Hansen
Tarrant

Struggling with fails
With all due respect to him, I don’t think Longmire was a particular success down back.
Post knee,
I haven’t seen anything YET to suggest Phillips is a good kick that alone a very good or excellent kick.
I think his kicking has been the only elite trait he has shown to date - without being particularly penetrating.
Need more of it.

Great question. Was my thoughts too. I was surprised when told. I trust my source as they know Brayden and spoke with him in person recently. BG has a booming kick and is an excellent mark of the footy. Clarko has a plan.

Mick Martyn kicked 96 goals in 1986 in the U19 to win the comps goal kicking award. Archer and Petrie were both very good at both ends of the ground. Also re key forwards remember Longmire doing his knee only for Sholl to move from a back flank to be a very effective full forward in 96. I remember looking at the leading goal kickers table at one stage in the mid 90s and we had Longmire, Carey, Roberts, Allison, Roberts, and McAdam all in the top 15 in the league. I know a lot are concerned about Larkey needing key position help, BUT in my view the functioning of a forward line comes down to fast accurate ball movement inside 50 and forwards who can get separation on their opponent. Being 6ft 6 and built like a brick sh1thouse will help in those bomb it long situations but they're still a low percentage play.

I’d be shocked if true

Can you tell your sauce to tell sausage we don’t want him to be cooked we’re hoping for some sizzle before they put a fork in him..

I like George as a forward, however, if this is our backline...

FB: Corr - Pink/Logue - ???
HB: Fisher - Comben - ???

  • both of those empty spots need to be good kicks who can move the ball out, there's not a lot of trustworthy kicking back there
  • one needs to be a small/med defender
  • the other a strong medium defender who can compete in the air and switch onto a bigger forward and not get rag dolled

Sheezel should ultimately be further up the ground.
Goater is much better on the wing where he actually looks dangerous. He also can't be trusted to kick out.

Bergman and Hardeman are competing for the small/medium role. Neither is strong enough to play two of them with Fisher in the same backline.

That leaves Lmac or Archer in the other spot. Archer isn't a great kick and Lmac can't run, jump or make good disposal decisions until proven otherwise.

George does potentially fill a need of being medium sized, strong, good in the air and also a booming kick who can clear the ball out of defense.

From the perspective of a physical profile and kicking ability a back 6 of Comben, Pink, Corr, George, Bergman, Fisher might work the best.

I've obviously got no idea if George or Comben can actually defend.

Aight, who ISNT playing in the backline next year then lmao
You jest, but the actual one on one defensive prowess back there is... quite lacking at the moment. As the team improves in more and more facets, so too will the defending, but crikey, if Corr and LMac are our only two names back there at the moment with some sort of track record (insert LMac joke here), we've a mountain to climb and a jungle to cross before we can start getting comfortable

Failure means a dozen games back, and then never sighted again there

Longmire was a success in that definition

Whether performance was a success or not is different

Is there one aspect of LMacs game that demands he gets a best 22 spot?
The condition in which Lmac has returned gives me confidence that he's giving himself every possible chance.

Schtick's getting kind of old, bro

Remind me who you are?

The one who was happy to believe all the racist shit about Tarryn right?

Keen to believe it from memory.
