Makes Weitering an interesting proposition.

By his own admission, he prefers to spend time alone or with family rather than hang out with the boys, and I don't think he cracked a smile in any of the interviews I've seen. Very reserved, very professional - maybe overly so?

Don't think it's a reason to overlook him, he's clearly got the right attitude and abilities to be a gun footballer, but I'd really love to see him getting fired up and showing a bit of enthusiasm at some point.

So he sounds like a young Kreuzer or Jamison then.

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2015-11-16/an-experience-ill-never-forget

When coach Brendon Bolton says he wants to create a united culture at Carlton, he doesn’t just mean within the playing group. Through a new initiative introduced by ‘Bolts’, he’s helping build strong relationships between everyone at the Club.
Each Monday over the pre-season four members of staff will get out of the office, head onto the park, and help out with training. Whether they’re from membership or merchandise, corporate or communications, everyone will take part. Great idea BB:D:D

One thing that stood out was the constant encouragement the players gave each other. The positive chatter among them and their ability to push one another was really evident – they were always looking to improve on drills and go that extra one percent.:D:D:D

If you haven't read this article yet guys, check it out!

Hopefully the members of the board are included on this rotating roster... :D

Kreuzer comes across as calm and kind whereas I thought Weitering is a bit more assertive.
Just our luck wasn't it, a calm and kind ruckman who wouldn't deliberately hurt a fly. Loved him smashing Jolly's sternum in though.

With Kreuz and Cripps in the centre square, I feel optimistic about our future. Actually looking at our core group of players in 2016 should they be fit, I honestly (and keep reiterating the fact) think we'll surprise many in 2016. I'm not saying we'll challenge for finals, but I can't see us finishing bottom 2-3 unless we have the same injury crisis as we did in 2015.

Buckley, Doc and Weitering at the back supported by an in-form and improving Tuohy + Jamo as the old head.

Kreuz, Cripps and Murph lining up in the middle with an ultra-fit and hungry Sam Kerridge supporting Gibbs and Curnow inside.

Daisy, Simmo and Walker providing heart and a bit of magic all around the ground.

Graham, Cas, Plow, Jaksch and Boekhorst showing improvement and showing their talent with greater exposure.

Bring it on.

People keep saying otherwise, but we all know Gibbs will be played as an inside mid. He, Cripps and Murph will be in the opening centre bounce round 1.

everything you've said there is off field. From all reports, when he crosses that white line, he's a MUCH different person. Super competitive and extremely vocal. Gets stuck into the opposition too

I think credit has to be given to dylan buckley here, we probably could have used someone like him back when murphy gibbs and co were coming through. Hes like what daisy was for collingwood when they were forming their premiership side. His banter brings people together and breaks down the awkward barriers so the rest are comfortable and join in. Even if bucks never becomes a great player his value off the field is immeasurable.
So true. Dylan is so likeable and personable. A really positive, happy and engaging personality that makes you warm to him immediately.
Remember attending the CFC family day. Either 2012, or 2013.
Queued up to meet players and get autograph's. Dylan was seated on a table, just he and Bootsma.
Josh looked like he'd sucked on a box of lemons, was about to pass wind and wanted to be anywhere else.
In sharp contrast, Dylan was smiling. He got up from the table and walked up towards the young girl in front of me in a wheelchair.
Introduced himself. Girl was all of 7, or 8, and her mother was so moved that such a young man was being so respectful and considerate.
He knelt down to the young girl's level and had photo's taken with her and signed some items.
Meanwhile Bootsma stayed stony faced sitting at the table.
Next in line, I blabbed something about wishing Dylan a great season and hoped he had a career as distinguished as his dad's.
He kindly responded to my pathetic fangirl utterings with a thank you and said he hoped he would do the club and his dad/family proud.
Dylan has that genuine X factor, personality wise. Quality young man, with a genial disposition and impressive social skills.

I just learnt something. The best way to appreciate Lil' Dyl is...

... sit him next to a sour Bootsma, craving social media.

Thanks. Recounted anecdote because of omdd's insightful post.
There was only the two players sitting alone at a table. Waited 10-15 mins in line and got to observe Dylan and Josh interact with fans.
Not a slight on Bootsma. Just struck me as very withdrawn, sullen and uncomfortable in that setting.
Then read afterwards that he was very introverted and had experienced difficulties bonding with some teammates.
Hope that parenthood and his move back home has bought him the happiness and stability that eluded him in Melbourne.
Re. Dylan, imo he's someone who's affable, genuine and comfortable in his own skin.
As his 'Discussions with Dylan' interviews attest, he also brings levity and humour to a situation. His genial personality is something his teammates really seem to respond to.
Interesting to see with all the new recruits, what personal qualities and personality types and traits it takes to create a balanced and unified team.

Geez, worth having on the list for that alone. Lad can play though. What a superb young man.

Man, I love it when I recall this moment. I was sitting on the boundary not 20 metres from where it happened. You could hear the dull thud as Kreuzer smashed into him. It was glorious.

To be fair, the track had shrunk by almost 200 metres in awe of Cripper's presence. Trees lay down, fences buckled, a warm breeze sprang up along Royal Parade.

He's also grown 1.5ft since last year, meaning his stride would be longer. It's not that great of a result when you take all these factors into account. Could work harder imo.

Yeah I hope we don't. How often do we see successful teams do this - great if they can plug a hole when injury hits, or if a match up is destroying us. But third talls switching, why, where's the long term benefit?

Hopefully that experiment left with Lachie.

with the limited rotation in modern football, these two will be able to just pick an end and stay there all game... no running to the other end at half time which can really fatigue...

for this same reason, Brendan Fevola once partitioned the Murray football league to change the rules so that he could kick to the same end all game... he did also request a stubby holder to be strapped to the point posts

So the following are already officially back at the club:

Plowman, Sumner, Phillips, Kerridge, Buckley, Cripps, Boekhorst, Viojo-Rainbow, Jaksch, Whiley, Smith, Foster, Dick, Graham, Byrne, Sheehan, Gowers, Korcheck

Those who will return in the next week or so:

Lamb*, Gorringe, Walker*, Murphy*, Gibbs, Simpson, Kreuzer, Jones, Docherty, Rowe*, Tutt, Armfield, Everitt, Curnow, Wood, Thomas*, Jamison*, Casboult, Tuohy, White

*those who I have seen in different videos or photos already taking part in some drills.

Going to be weird not seeing Judd, Carrazzo and Ellard training their guts out this preseason.
