Eddie McGuire was on MMM this morning and said that he had spoken to March and was told that we WILL NOT be going after Cloke. Personally I took that with a grain of salt, after all you would have to think that if we are going to go after him March would hardly be telling Eddie him that we are. I would also think that even though March is president, he wouldn't have any say in who we go after from a playing list perspective.

Common knowledge is that Melbourne and Freo have put big offers forward, I doubt he would want to go to Melbourne as he wouldn't experience a great deal of success, if any, at his time there. I can't see him moving over to WA.

Which leaves us and Carlton, we should be able to offer more than Carlton, and the Richmond family ties could only help.

I would be gutted if March had a say with on field recruiting. McGuire is full of it.

As I said while Eddie can claim that March has said that we won't go after him, March has no real say in who the football dept wants. As the following shows:

Richmond and Carlton on Wednesday reiterated their interest in securing the services of Collingwood forward Travis Cloke.....
......the Tigers joined the queue on Wednesday with football operations manager Craig Cameron revealing the club could afford to chase the in-demand forward.
"We've got room in our cap," Cameron told SEN on Wednesday.
"We're not sure exactly what the figures are. If some of the figures that are being reported are true then some of those would be a challenge. Not necessarily from a salary cap position, but we've got a list management model that we've been building on for the last few years.
"We've got a number of young players that we have to keep in the coming years. We've got a very good structure in terms of our list management and salary cap going forward so we just have to work out what Travis wanted before we took it any further."
Cameron said the Tigers would be talking with one of Cloke's management group, Ralph Carr, although he expected the 2010 premiership player to remain at Collingwood.
"We're taking it via his manager, Ralph Carr," he said.
"We're probably still in a similar position. We think Collingwood and Travis will sort something out. Obviously with talks being on hold, it's important for us to maybe have a chat to Ralph and see where the situation is at so we know exactly where it sits."

It should be pointed out that these comments were made well after Eddie would have spoken to March given that Eddie has been in London since late last week. So obviously things have changed between now and then.

As my above post shows things have obviously changed since March and Eddie last spoke, given that Cameron has now gone on record saying that not only are we interested but that we're actually talking to his management. Although he does say that we expect Cloke to work something out with the Pies.

Not sure if I'm the only one , but I think it's a huge compliment to the club that Eddiechins has contacted the club to find out if we are interested in Cloke. He is obviously a tad concerned that we may be attractive to Cloke . I like Tugg hope we drive his price up only for him to sign and for us to grab another of their uncontracted players somewhere near their true value. .

Would be a great advantage to have him on the field.
Hes a completely different player to Jack who pushes much further up the ground, something that we have severly lacked in recent times. He'd be the guy who would mark it 65 out from goal and pump it long to Jack to do his stuff. Would certainly be dangerous with Jack not being double teamed as much as Vickery would be able to play the 3rd tall which Miller/McGuane have played and would tear his opponent up with his aerial ability.

I guess the things we have to take into consideration is if we have to give up anything if he went to us. I havent paid much attention but could he go to us as a free agent?
I really dislike his father and wouldn't want him around the club but i guess that's something we have to weigh up. I really couldn't see Carlton getting him, how the **** would he fit in there cap with what he is asking for?

He's not worth the (supposed) coin, but he is the perfect player for Richmond to acquire.

this is where i come from. he is not worth 900k/1m a year, cc said it would have to fit our salary model but he would be the perfect player for us.

adcock is not worth 500k. boak maybe. i think this idea is great but reality says its unlikely. considering our fwd 50 entries are junk he fits this bill.

Interesting stuff. Sounds like the club has done a 180 on this one. Would be a pretty handy acquisition.
