Even though this has been the likely scenario for months, it's still a shame to see him end like this. I guess we were all hanging on for the miracle recovery. Good luck Croady, you will be missed.

Re: Goodbye Trent Croad

Farewell Trent.

Having seen Egan go through this prolonged situation, I did not want to see another player of any club have to.

Wish you all the best for your retirement and hope you find something to do with your future that makes you happy.

Re: Goodbye Trent Croad

Just read this story, gutted. As I've mentioned before, Trent was the last remaining player from when I first started following the Hawks about 10 years ago. Croady really was a massive player for us and he'll be sorely missed. It was always unlikely he'd return in any meaningful way but I, like most, had hope. Best of luck with your next move Trent.

Shattered. Thanks for 9 years of great service to the club Croady. His last on-field moments for the club, hip & shouldering Selwood when his foot was already stuffed is one of my favourite memories in footy.....

The guy wouldnt have been out of place in the great 1989 side, such was his bravery.

full on celebration on crutches was a bonus too

Bugger.

Met him a couple of times when he first started. Really nice guy. Bought his signed jumper at an auction back then too.

All the best Trent, Hawk's Fans thank you for your service and hope that you have no issues with your foot in your life post football

Re: Goodbye Trent Croad

Trent it's been a huge honour to have witnessed your career at the Hawthorn football club, and a personal highlight for myself when i met you in person and had a lovely chat, what a fine young gentleman you are.

I suppose we all had that glimmer of hope that you would return, but unfortunately the severity of the injury would have other ideas. Wishing you and your young family all the best in the future.

Again??

Really devastating news if it proves true.
A brown and gold soldier until the end.

I was really hoping that Schoey would get at least one year under Trents tutelage.
The weight of expectation that we are placing on Schoey to take the "gorillas" next year is really concerning IMO.

say it's not so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a champion he has been for the club. even more the champion had his big long range pumper sailed through the posts (instead of hitting it) in the 2001 preliminary final against the bombers. oh well his match worn framed up jersey still hangs proudly in my office a great reminder of the champ!!! all the best Trent. :(:):D

while i'm on here i've gotta mention the best mark ever.... Croad over Brown (Lions) - it was massive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :footy:

First time poster, long time reader.

I thought this would be a good time to make my first post.

I met Trent in the week leading up to the 2008 Grand Final.
He had time for a chat and a photo and did it with a smile.
Quality person and footballer.

All the best Trent for life after football. You are and always
will be a Hawthorn Premiership hero. Your deeds in the brown
and gold will not be forgotten.

Thanks for the memories Croady as many people have already expressed that Selwood bump will stick with many Hawks supporters for ever, so glad you got a Premiership before hanging up the boots.

This paves the way for a W.Skipper elevation me thinks! Shame we are once again a player down list wise this year though.

Well done on a great career, sad way to end but great to know his last act was that in a premiership winning side.

Here is hoping he can make a full recovery in time and his quality of life isnt affected in the long run. All the best Croady

(As I said on the main forum thread) I know this is either 99% likely to happen or more to the point 99% chance that Trent won't play again, but until I read it on the Hawks site, after the 30 other "Croad is about to retire" news articles, I am not taking it as gospel just yet!

Re: Goodbye Trent Croad

Stuff you guys I am not saying bye untill he actually retires. I am still holding out hope that Trent will come up.

He might have had a bad day when he said this.

Lets remain positive.

Bad news but def not a suprise.Does this mean we are a player down on the list and if yes you have to question the timing of the retirement for the good of the team.

Champion player who would have been a great mentor for a young backline.Good luck Croady in the future.

The public and private faces of the HFC in relation to Croad making a recovery are quite different.

The club were always very happy to give Trent every opportunity yo give it his best to see if he could overcome the injury, but the reality is that they were always aware it was long odds he would make it back.

So in that regard the club were always looking at the issue and the consequences for list management with their eyes open and not as the title to thefilm says...eyes wide shut.

Sometimes decisions like this have an internal cultural effect on a football club. Trent is an inspiration to everyone on the list but particularly the youngst on the list to see how much it means to an icon player. It provides inspiration within.

It is not always about numbers per se. Trent is a leader by example and he does not need to be on the ground to be successful in that role. Do not overlook that. Trent is not lost to the HFC. He just might not be able to play anymore.
