Clearly a confidence issue at the higher level.
The problem there is that even if that’s the case and it’s not about physical limitations the most likely way to remedy it is with a consistent run of senior footy like Murphy’s had the past 18 months. Add another pro scouted player, improvements from Ginnivan and Allan and Bianco is a long way back from getting a game let alone an extended run.

I think Jen posted something in the trade thread which suggested there’s interest elsewhere which he has to jump on, IMO. I don’t see him fitting in anywhere, but getting on another list is a great start. If I’m being honest of the guys currently OOC if they were on another clubs list the only one I’d have a mild interest in is Ruscoe.

The pure fact is that he doesn’t have the leg speed for an outside player. Nothing against the kid but he won’t be retained. Delisted
Same boat for Ruscoe - unless they think he can play as an AFL tall - which they didn't seem to think when we had only Moore and Murphy as talls in defence for a big chunk of games.

I think this is the way the list team would think about it. Forget about the connotation of delisting. These blokes aren't on our 24 list yet - do we want to add them to the list or are there better gettable options we can add.

Assuming he wants to stay I'd be giving Ruscoe another contract - he's AFL ready, as we saw on Anzac Day.
Particularly as Dean and Murphy have had issues.
Why we would even think of delisting or trading him (against his will,) for another defender ( otherwise we'll be light in defensive stocks) of unknown quantity seems counter intuitive.

What if it’s someone of know quantity? If there’s another Frampton to be found, which there is, my preference would be them over Ruscoe.

I really like Ruscoe, but we didn't play him when it was only Moore and Murphy due to Howe being injured and Frampton in the ruck. I don't think the match committee like him as much as I do. I think he'll get an offer and would be silly to stay. But if we do ask him to go, I think we could find a replacement pretty easily.

Markov and soon Ryan will be ahead of Ruscoe as a defender

And who knows whether they’ll start Allen on the wing or behind the ball

Not to mention a trade target to prop up the defence

After 4 years on the list I’d say Ruscoe on thin ice

We should look to see what’s on offer first, he can reliably fill a need and has minimal impact to the Cap But I feel he would be best 22 at some other Clubs right now. i See Ruscoe elsewhere next year. Imho

He is cheap and can perform his basic role ✅

They brought Hill, Markov, Frampton in last year… so I’m not discounting more arrivals… which then put pressure on list spaces further

See what their plans are

Agree but you would think a bottom 6 team would have to be interested in him especially the 2 from WA and he would happily go home on a 2-3 year contract. However if he really wants to stay I would keep him with Murphys concussion history and Howe very close to the end. I would prefer to keep him than most of the others on the uncontracted list.

Both are too short to have the flexibility of Ruscoe, in the same way as neither could replace Murphy.
You may have forgotten Ruscoe replaced the concussed Murphy on Anzac Day.

Why do we need to target a defender given you are trying to suggest Ruscoe is superfluous, and also while believing we have adequate depth with Markov, Ryan and Allen?

Cuts both ways, Ruscoe doesn't provide the run and carry that Markov & Ryan do

Neither does Murphy, but has height and strength.
Neither Markov or Ryan could have done the job on Finlayson.

You are trying to compare apples and oranges.
I'm not the one who made the comparison, but if you want like-for-like, Frampton has leapfrogged Ruscoe in terms of tall defensive depth. The club has a lot of faith in Dean too. I think he'd be best served to try and go elsewhere, as he has the talent to play frequently.

Ruscoe is listed as 193cm 93kg, completely different types of defender.
99% of the time Fly picks Markov.
I can see Ryan playing early next year.
He has talent.
Frampton also ahead of Ruscoe.
Than you have Dean who in my eyes can play.
If I was Ruscoe I'd be going back to WA for some game time.

Correct - so you have tried to assert that the well established intercept stats need to be ignored, and in so doing you are being disingenuous (intentionally misrepresenting ) Ruscoe’s intercepting abilities.
The stats are the stats, and prove the point about intercepting.

if you want criticise him using other stats sources then that’s fine.
No. You brought up his intercept stats from one game in the broader discussion of whether Ruscoe is a good option to play as a tall defender like Murphy does. I pointed out that those intercept stats don't tell the full picture, as many intercept stats don't come from aerial contests.

I'm a Ruscoe fan and think he'll get a good run at another club who want a solid all-rounder. But for us he's an Inbetweeners whose not good enough in the air as an aerial defender or quick enough to play as a rebounder.

Ruscoe playing as a general defender.

Not renowned for aerial intercept ability like Howe or taking big bodied players like murphy does on a weekly basis… in which case he is competing with Ryan, Markov etc for a role come 2024

If the club wanted to keep him - fine. But I hope it is with a view to making him a Murphy type bigger body handling defender… otherwise imo he won’t get a game if he’s playing ‘smaller’… as he’s only played 5 in two years so far under Fly

There’s a lot to like about Ruscoe but he won’t make it imho. Well, not with us. Just makes too many stupid mistakes and can’t seem to get them out of his game. Would be behind Frampton and Dean for a taller role. Not sure he’s got the development in him to take on those guys anyway. Behind Ryan for an interceptor role.

He's more a 3rd tall though than a KPF imho. Unlike Murphy, Ruscoe has had his struggles against the big forwards, even at VFL level. He doesn't have the same physicality. I'm not sure he can develop it either given he hasn't after 4 preseasons at the club. At senior level he's competing for the same 3rd tall position as the Howe and Maynard types. I don't mind the comparison with Ryan at this stage in his development, it's hard to know what he might become.
