Troy Taylor charged with one count of assault.

Yeah if he's found guilty he can't play above Coburg Reserves and if he's found innocent he can't play above Coburg Firsts.

Idiot.

The club needs to make a stand that this sort of thing can't be condoned. We have sponsors that may or may not be impacted by our stance taken on this alleged assault. The media and community would come down on us like a tonne of bricks should we turn a blind eye (if he is found innocent) and another incident occured in the future.

With the way the law system is nowadays he will probably be found innocent of the alleged assault and found guilty of a lesser misdemeanor. But that doesn't mean he didn't do it. But I guess that would be good enough for you:eek:.

As I already said earlier a year at coburg (which is where he is likely to be anyway) with some community service would be a suitable punishment from the club.

Hardwick had already said that Taylor accepts his mistake and is prepared to face the consequences. I doubt Hardwick's the kind of man to let him off scott-free. Hopefully they find the right balance of discipline and support and that a truly remorseful TT recognises the chance he has and grabs it with both mitts.

The Richmond Football Club can confirm that Troy Taylor has been charged with assault over an incident in Alice Springs on New Years Eve. He has been summonsed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on February 18.

“We knew Troy had a number of issues he was dealing with when we drafted him,” Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said.

“The Richmond Football Club has a professional network of support helping Troy address his issues but we have also advised Troy that he needs to take personal responsibility for the decisions he makes,” Gale said.

Due to legal reasons there will be no further comment from the club until after Troy has been to court on February 18.

Liam Pickering and Wayne Schwass said on radio this morning that they are hearing that unfortunately Taylor may be looking at some time inside. He spent time in a youth/juvenile detention centre previously. Fingers crossed for you guys as I heard he showed some real talent in an intra club match yesterday. Liam Pickering said that Taylor would of gone top 20 pick if he hadn't had these issues which scared a few cubs off.

Disagree...all the time, effort, money that goes into 'rehabilitating' troubled youth. Why would you send one who has an opportunity to get out of the merry go round for these kids?

Extend his behaviour bond to 2 years or whatever.

Unlike last time he went to court, this time he should be better represented if Richmond get a decent lawyer for him. I wonder if the 3 guys he is accused of assalting will also be bring along a well paid lawyer. High profile case...will be interesting to know how the police are treating this. Has it been thrown to a rookie......or are the detectives getting on to it to try and make sure he does time.

As most opposition supporters, you seem to want him to do time. Coming here pushing it in our faces. Will try to make sure he knows to have a blinder against you guys later in the year:thumbsu:

He's actually only formally accused of assaulting one person.

Why the hell would I ever want to see an 18 year old kid do time who has one of the greatest opportunities that many of us in this country only dream of doing, playing afl. I would never wish where this kid could be on anyone and hope like hell he comes out of this well and becomes a 200 game player for you guys. I only reported what radio hosts said. Did you not read my first line where I said Wayne Schwass and Liam Pickering said that he could be in some strife????? Get off your high horse mate, alll i was doing was informaing Richmond people of what two professionals in the afl media said on radio and thought it may be informative to let Richmond people know if they did not hear it, particularly about the intra club part. As for having a blinder im happy for him to run with Trengrove or Scully and see how he goes......

A judge will be very reluctant to jail him. He's an aboriginal kid in Alice Springs with the opportunity to break away from his trouble life and a QC will be telling his story in court.

He'll get a suspended sentence.

Agreed, or a Community Based Order. From the sounds of it all he did was be a little insolent and have a scuffle with an older bloke. No serious injury has been reported. You'd be one hard ass of a judge giving him jail time, basically saying he has no hope --> lot's of negative media.

:thumbsu:
the first thing we should do is make him the first guy selected for the Nab R1 game...why, to make a stand that at RFC it's innocent to proven guilty . The second thing they need to do is appoint the lawyer that had Greg Domaszewicz acquitted ...that'll ****'em

Brilliant Bo.:thumbsu:
There will be many a poster on here who won't have a clue who you are talking about but I liked it :thumbsu:

No insolence is telling the ticket inspector you won't show him your train ticket.

Flooring guys isn't insolence. LOL.

If the prosecution demand a custodial sentence , they can easily point out that the offence occured after he was drafted and given his opportunity.
It all depends on what kind of example the NT authorities want him to be - A "nobody's above the law" one or a "beacon of hope to aboriginal kids everywhere" one...politics will decide..democracy's an illusion and the law is an ass...

Why do I get the sick feeling that his ego isn't going to go away any time soon.

Question is, what does the club do if he gets any jail time (I doubt it but possible) or if he has another run in with the law.

If it's settled outside of court the club still needs to take disciplinary action. Not publicly but just so he knows that this behaviour isn't acceptable.

Court on Feb 18...I guess we will be arranging a lawyer to make sure he gets a slap on the wrist.

Alice Springs is in the Northern territory my friends.....that still has I believe mandatory detention...in other words you get found guilty of nicking a shopping trolly you do time no ifs or buts no matter how good your laywer is.

Isn't the mandatory detention only for juveniles...and I believe he is being charged as an adult??

edit; nope other way round. But is it only for property offences?

The only way it seems this could be an issue from what I can work out is if the 'assault' he is accused of, included an intention to steal.
