lol reading some of the fine print on a pergola i'm looking at. How's this gem.

"roofs are not to be used for floor type activities"

That's a nice way of saying don't ****ing hold a party on the roof of a pergola.

Second one is a larger covered area (about a metre more width from the house) and 5k cheaper, but I honestly think it's so ****ing bland compared to the nice open pergola part. Sacrifice is less covered area but might love to grow some vines up the open pergola part. Probably gonna delete the skylights too. They always end up shitty.

Second option will work better with the roller blinds.

Mmmm, yeah. We haven't got the blinds in the quote at this stage as I reckon i'll just do that as a later thing. I think both options would work with blinds.

All the best coaches have them

We went from the first to the second option at our place and it's so much better. More space, cover and protection from the elements (particularly with the patio blinds).

I get the whole vine thing on the open section, but in our old pergola it didn't work despite repeated attempts. Might work better at your place though. We've got pot plants (on-ground and hanging) to soften and enhance the space.

mmm, I did think that but it kinda looks nice just on its own even if we don't get the vine to take. Plus it leads straight out onto a deck so it's kinda nice. Shit is hard to make a call on.

Always go minimal.

The space itself is the benefit, not the framework around it.

Option 2 for me.

Are you factoring the direction it's facing in your choice? Eg, getting more winter sun in/better shade in summer
It gets a **** tonne of sun. It's north facing. I think I may be able to meet a happy compromise though. Keep the open pergola, but shorten it slightly (its 1.9m, I reckon we could shorten it), and increase the covered pergola out a bit more.

If you have too much entertaining space you're gonna feel compelled to have campaigners round all the time and that gets annoying.
Ohhhhh no, this is for me, the missus and the kid ahaha.
