I know jack shit about darts I just threw it in there as a “darts whatever” with emphasis on the whatever.
It doesn’t matter what the sport is. It’s the David vs Goliath sh1t that Aussies froth over. 2006 World Cup for example. Next to nobody gave a crap about soccer in this country until it looked like we could beat the Europeans at their own game.
Point is you’re mistaken in thinking that it’s cricket specifically that Australians identify with.

Yep - I agree our traffic fines are totally unjust.
So let's bring in traffic fines based on the offender's income like they do in Finland. Much fairer.

That way a poor dude working three uber eats jobs to earn a poverty line income of $40k/year gets fined say $50 when he gets caught going 11 kms over the speed limit on his zoot scooter whereas the w***er suit on $500k/year in his AMG gets fined $5k for the same offence.
With fines scaling up with each offence.
If deterrence is the main aim of fines for traffic offences then it seems fair to me

Nah the whole country cracked the sads after the 90s/00s golden era ended and the rest of the world caught up to varying degrees. Not only that but I’d even go as far to say that cricket is considered flat out lame by most sub-30 year olds. There’s nowhere near the interest there was when I was a kid but I guess part of that is due to the influence of new media technology and the big global sports riding that wave.

Winter is a warzone with the country split between NRL, AFL and Soccer, and even then with sizeable other rivals like F1 or netball.
We all come together for 5 tests every Summer.

Please it’s clearly seasonal. Cricket has its time to shine for about 6-8 weeks before it fades into obscurity for the rest of the year and that’s only if we’re playing England or India. No one apart from the tragics gives a toss when it’s Pakistan or the West Indies.
Then the Australian Open and F1 take the baton and before you know it the footy/rugby seasons start. I’d say that footy is more of an obsession than cricket especially as someone posting on a footy forum in January.
