I'm okay with missing out on him but Cumming made more sense for us than them. Crows loaded up in the off season with a 24, 26 and 28 year old as if they are prime for a premiership assault right now.

Cumming's recent injury suggest that it was a good one to miss i think. Perryman was probably our main target, that one annoys me more because not only did Collingwood get Houston they snatched our main target to replace him.
More like desperate for a finals appearance to appease the masses.

Gridiron is way tougher, though there’s an argument for both.

The helmets and armour are generally there to prevent death and maiming though.

The already fleeting lifespan of running backs would be reduced to months without them.

Carlton’s injury curse has rolled on with one Blue ruled out for the start of 2025 and another star facing knee surgery. The Blues have confirmed Alex Cincotta won’t be available for the opening rounds as he faces months on the sidelines with a hip issue. And there’s more injury concern for star Charlie Curnow who will miss the team’s Sunshine Coast pre-season camp as he remains in Melbourne for knee surgery.

Union is the softest of the three.

I have played a decent level at all.

I played schoolboy union in South Africa. That was bad enough! Until I got knocked to "Kingdom Come" in a game once ... Had a whopping concussion from that, struggled to remember my own name the rest of the day.

I also played as a goalkeeper for the local soccer club under-16s ... Needless to say, I stuck with that, and never played a Union game again!

Salary Cap dodging gone wrong 101.

Geelong legend Joel Selwood was named in a contract as the lender of $100,000 to a club sponsor who is now under police investigation and accused in court documents of fraudulently obtaining an estimated $14.5 million from a charity.
Draft loan documents obtained by The Age reveal the 355-game champion was due to receive $10,000 in interest from the proposed loan in 2013 to Sy Giang Nguyen.

Loan documents reveal Nguyen proposed to borrow $100,000 from Selwood, who would be repaid the principal and interest of $10,000 after eight months. No collateral was required under the loan agreement, which was made on November 27, 2013.“The parties have agreed that no security is required for this loan,” the deed drafted by Nguyen says.
.........
Another loan agreement also made on November 27, 2013, reveals Selwood’s company, JAMS 14 Pty Ltd, planned to lend $100,000 to a financial planner for an eight-month term with an interest rate of 15 per cent per annum.
That contract was also unsigned by Selwood, and it is unknown if the transaction was completed.

And there it is. The loose thread that could unravel the past 20 years of salary cap evasion by Geelong. Well ...If the AFL had any desire to expose it and we all know they don't.

They’re not wrong. Delaying the changes to the points system so clubs who’d been enjoying the rort could cash in for one more year was a joke.

I'm split between acknowledging the systemic unfairness of our competition and not wanting my mindset and supporter mindset to reflect the current thinking at Port or fall into the St Kilda/North Melbourne thinking.

Over the past 10 years the bottom half (you know what i mean) of clubs represented 35% of grand finals and 32.5% of top fours, which is not terrible for a domestic competition compared to the rest of the world, but it still feels like the inequity is being compounded.

The only "Everyone else" clubs who finished top 4 in this period are Port, Melbourne and the Bulldogs.

I don't know where this is going given the academy points system is being reviewed, but I can bet that we'll be in the everyone else group the next time the AFL puts their finger on the scale to even things up or to grow the game.
