Insurrectionsist? Hardly. No conviction of that at any rate.

“Hardly”? Then why did Colorado and Maine take Trump off the ballot pending a Supreme Court ruling? You think the SCOTUS breaks their recess to have effectively an emergency hearing over trifling matters of no merit?

Two states out of 50... and pending a decision. No conviction yet, so a little presumptuous, don't you think? Another strategy to cast doubt over his bona fides as a candidate. Put him on the ballot and let the people decide. I suspect that the 'establishment' are too afraid they can't 'beat' him again and don't want him even running! It's going to be interesting come November!

Imagine the face-melting from the Left if Donny gets up with Vivek as his VP!

I said he was struck from the ballot for being an insurrectionist. It is not presumptuous, that is very specifically what he has been removed from the Colorado and Maine ballots for, and the SCOTUS will decide whether the evidence meets the burden of proof under the Constitution.

The fact that you defend him on the basis that it is “only” 2 states is laughable. Insurrection is a form of treason, a crime which used to attract the harshest forms of penalty available to the state. Anyone accused of treason for undermining the democratic process, then relying on that process in their presidential aspirations is skating on the thinnest of ice. I have never met anyone in my life accused of treason, and yet this person has, the investigation is pending, and he’s running for POTUS.

The presidency is not the season finale of The Bachelor, or the Miss Universe pageant, where you pick your horse or cheer for a team, or hang out purely for the “melts”. It’s meant to mean something and be held to the highest possible standards of conduct.

I'm suggesting that IF he was considered an insurrectionist then he would be struct from the ballot in all states! He hasn't been convicted of being an insurrectionist and therefore it is fair to say that the two states in question are being presumptuous.

I'm also not arguing that treason is not a serious matter however, there is little proof that Trump led an insurrection. In fact, there's an equally compelling amount of 'evidence' that Pelosi was as instrumental in civilians entering the Whitehouse on January 6th than any other official - elected or otherwise.

The point is, Trump has not been convicted of the offence that the two states have cited as the justification for striking him from the ballot. And I'm sure that there will be those that are motivated to ensure that the case is delayed for as long as is possible so that he cannot be listed on the ballot.

There are those that are throwing as much muck as possible at Trump to ensure he kept from running and it is so transparent (the motives) it's almost laughable. What is sad is that this is disenfranchising his very significant supporter base and that is doing more to undermine democracy than almost anything else.

As I said, it will be an interesting time in the US (and globally) come November!

That’s like saying a pig in its sty rolling around in its own shit and filth has had “muck thrown at it”. The bloke is a POS and isn’t fit for office, and whatever gets pinned on him is entirely of his own doing.

And that’s from someone with no vested interest, and no affiliation or partisanship with either of the political parties over there.

There’s no evidence to suggest this is disenfranchising his supporter base either, if his term in office didn’t put them off, multiple attempts at impeachment didn’t put them off, getting successfully sued for sexual harassment didn’t put them off, then the ballot in Colorado and Maine won’t either. That’s just the narrative he’s pushing.

No, there's plenty of evidence that Trump was critically involved in inciting the insurrection. He hasn't been convicted, yet, but that's just because the wheels of justice turn slowly.

He was running the narrative of a 'stolen election' before the election had been run. He went into overdrive after. The notion that Don didn't understand the inflammatory effects of his rhetoric beggars belief.

The notion that Pelosi is as culpable as Don is...curious.

Culpable in the same way that a woman who wears a figure-hugging outfit is culpable for being sexually assaulted; to use an analogy Trump might understand… but probably not.

A finding of sexual assault against him in a civil case with the judge suggesting rape. Heaps of other other allegations of sexual assault. Two state judges with findings of insurrection. Facing heaps of other varied criminal charges. You wouldn't hire him to be a bar tender, with all that shit around him, but half of America will probably vote for him to be President of the United States. And that's before you look at all the bonkers things he's said and done in terms of politics. It's just bat shit crazy.

So many states hanging on the SC ruling.
If they rule against him it will be an avalanche of states following.

Wait…
Are you seriously trying to assert that Pelosi, a person who the mob were chanting to be hung, let the mob into the building? To have herself hung by them? And yes, I’ve seen the video of the mob chanting, and the mob running through the building trying to find her.
Seriously?
You are so far down the rabbit hole that even Elmer Fudd couldn’t coax you out.
I can only feel sorry for you.

P.S. For clarity, the White House was never invaded. But the truth was never a Trump acolytes friend.

Just on this point, you’re completely overlooking the politicization of those processes. Trump would already have been impeached if the GOP had a lesser majority in the house, because a few republicans voted against their own leader. The rest voted along party lines and it really had very little to do with his fitness to hold office.

Similarly, the fact that Trump has stacked the SCOTUS with favorable judges who now have inordinately long terms, will stand him in good stead when the insurrection hearing takes place. These are the people responsible for overturning Roe vs. Wade FFS. We are not getting lady justice here, but an extension of an already tilted GOP political endgame.

Trump is a POS but RvW was a flawed legal decision. The implications of it being overturned are terrible but don’t blame the legal system. It’s the legislation in the states that is the problem. Was a miracle it lasted that long.

I understand what you mean though I lack your depth of insight on the matter. Having said that; how likely would the overturning of Roe vs. Wade have been had Trump not replaced three justices with far-right-leaning candidates such as Kavanaugh? Or even if RBG was still alive and on the panel?

Don’t know enough to comment.

Edit - not wanting to sound flippant- just am not across the case that overturned the decision.

The problem I have with the overturning of RvW is that each three appointed Trump justices affirmed at their congressional hearings stating that it is settled law covered by precedent. Basically they lied/misled Congress.

Not sure that RBG still being there would have made a difference as Roberts, Alito and Thomas voted against it so would not have been enough.

The new judges are heavily supported by The Federalist Society.

So glad I live in Australia.

This is typical of the batshit crazy lies that Trump supporters come out with. That Pelosi line takes the cake!!!

There is overwhelming evidence that Trump incited an insurrection as well as fraudulently trying to steal an election. Brad Raffensberger, the Georgia Secretary of State and notably a Republican is one on many who has stated the Trump demanded he falsified results. Trump's own VP in Pence testified that he was demanded to fraudulently install a different set of elected officials.

All through my life I have been influenced to believe it is shameful to lie, but with Trump and his moronic supporter base it is made out to be a virtue.

As much muck as possible should be thrown at Trump. The parallels with Hitler are bleedingly obvious. The never ending lies and deceit, attempts to lead an insurrection, attempts to steal an election, the demonising of a minority group, the ultra nationalist policies, the blind support of followers who stay loyal regardless of the crime, the incitement for violence etc ect

Trump said he could walk down 5th Avenue shoot someone and his supporters would still vote for him. That is about the only true thing that has come out his mouth and is a him acknowledging just how mind numbingly dumb his supporter base is.

I'd argue that his position on China was his one really good legacy. No way the democrats would have been anywhere near as forthright. Immigration is a huge problem there, a big reason for a poor minimum wage but also sky rocketing house prices. Not that Trump cares about those things but the democrats have some nutjobs who don't care what unchecked immigration would do. Remember Kemala Harris flipping on this issue when they looked.soft and people.were crossing the border in droves.

Same thing has been happening here in Australia, we have a better safety net for the lowest income earners and a far better health system. Housing affordability is a sad situation and both parties here in Australia are guilty of this.

Don't think for a second the greens would solve the issue or are an alternative, they are for a big Australia. A big, big unsustainable, polluted, chop all the trees down, burn the economy - Australia.

But back on to Trump, there are issues he is alloud to be more honest about then the democrat rivals. I guess all political parties are wedged to their bases.

Everything you said there is right on the money. The reality of the situation is that Trump wouldn’t succeed in any other country in the world except for America..With all the baggage he carries he probably wouldn’t even get 10% of the vote anywhere else in the world, but in America he gets close to 50% because basically half the country is batshit crazy and has no ethical standards at all.

Sorry it was not to be taken literally. A lot of people in the Greens are in the party for other reasons and don't really care much about the environment. They care more about fringe issues such as kicking out the TERF's. They had Lidia Thorpe on the Senate. Mathers using left wing populism on price caps. Mahreen Faruqi herself chopped down trees to make way for renovations on one of many of her investment properties. They have Mehreen Faruqi and her son.
There's a reason why people refer to the party representing a Watermelon.

Last sentence gave me a good laugh. Trump has a dictionary but the word honest does not appear anywhere near it.

You do realise that illegal immigration levels in the US reached a peak in 2007 of around 12 million and then began declining. It has spiked a few times the last few years but has still not reached 2007 levels. Illegals from Mexico have in several years since 2007 had more people from this group leave the US rather than enter it. Most illegal immigrants in the US also arrive by plane not via Trumps huge white elephant, the border wall.

What Trump has done, like many far right wing politicians the world over, is to realise that voters respond to negatives and to fear. So if you can blame a minority group and make it feel like they are the cause of all your problems, the wilfully ignorant will swallow the narrative.

Who can forget our very own war criminal, little Johnny Howard and his big election lie "They are throwing their kids overboard"?

It was not the Democrats that courted unchecked immigration. Illegal immigration tripled from 1990 to 2007 the peak year when it was under mostly Republican presidents.

As far as Trump's China policy, which really isn't a policy, throwing dirt at them has not provided any good outcomes for the world or the US. Division and painting them as the enemy, such a typical right wing and Trump tactic, is not going to solve any of the obvious and serious issues that China presents. But that's what you gey when you elect a child as President

Immigration is a big reason why property prices are high, and wages low. In the
US they have sweatshops exploiting mostly Mexicans crossing the border, forgetting for a minute the lack of morality of that alone, this also undercuts the working wage in the usa. Also people migrating on planes or student visas with rich parents will ultimately.push property prices up.

What you should point out is that it's people like the Koch brothers and big business/capitalists who love migration. And again, I'd gree with you on this.

Does Trump really care about these issues or does he dog whistle for political gain. It's definitely the latter.

But these are issues that he is at the least outwardly claiming to address, to his base at least.

It's all academic for us though cliff, I don't think you or I really care much about immigration numbers in America to be honest. More or less.

I think that Cliff is concerned with the ways in which immigration --legal or otherwise-- is used by right-wing populists to stir up xenophobia.

His very point is that it isn't really about the numbers; it's about the people like Don who use hatred for political capital.

This is a very bad thing.
