I think Damien Barrett is only one part of a big anti - Richmond agenda. Just about every AFL journalist, commentator and 'expert' has nothing nice to say about Richmond ever. I mean even in general society we are a big joke. Non - bulldogs supporters are happy to give the bulldogs list a bit of credit. But Non - Richmond supporters just sit back hoping and praying that we lose so they can say 'same old Richmond'.
 
I think you guys did fine. You stood your ground and didn't cave with Carlton.
To be honest I don't see much wrong with your list. You just need players like Martin and Ellis to become truly elite (which they should), natural maturation of the side and continued retention of your players should mean success fairly soon.
I've really admired your 'buy low' philosophy with Grigg, Houli, Maric etc. You also rarely waste your first rounders (Martin, both Ellis', Vlastuin etc). That prudent kind of approach has served you well, no point abandoning it now.
 
There are only a few important things to consider.
- Bennell or Carlisle would have been a ****ing disaster and dont you worry it would have been reported as such by pin dick.
-Yarran is better than Carlisle and
would've been reported as such had we taken Carlisle.
-the fact we brought two players we targeted in and kept our first pick has been conveniently ignored.

I ****ing love it.

What about Caroline Wilson? Or John Ralph? Or KB? Or Gerard Whateley? The first three are Tiger's fans and Gerard is scrupulous.

Others don't treat Richmond as seriously as Richmond wants because Richmond is not having a red hot crack off the field.

Your administration needs to start channelling your mighty forebears: Ian Wilson, Graeme Richmond, Alan Schwab etc

Treloar would have at least listened to such Titans

Ralph LMAO just another flog going around, says he is a Richmond supporter but when has he actually said anything good about us? He would prefer to rub one of our players out for a story than defend us

Richmond's problem with the media isn't because they have some hidden agenda against us, its because we sell better stories when we are falling apart. The last 30 years we have fallen apart and that's all the media know these days when it comes to Richmond.

It has nothing to do with how the club is run off the field, its all about on field performance these days.

Who gives a flying truck about what they say? The day we need the approval and adulation of the media is the day we really hit the skids. Our members and their faith in the club is what counts, those who bleed Yellow and Black, not some pissant in the media.

That's a pretty fair assessment.
I've no doubt we are very nervous about being as aggressive as Collingwood for example due to our horrid period of ineptness.
It could be argued that the actions of GR and co from our halcyon days sat is on our arse for that period and that haunts us.
Fair play to the pies, without knowing what Treloar is being paid it's hard to know though if we were just being careful or realistic.
Egos damage footy clubs and that's exactly what happened to us in those days.
The trade off for getting a Treloar over the line is that it'll put the odd nose out of joint.
It may well be that the pies senior players are above that and it pays off handsomely.
I just don't think we are prepared to risk it.

It's similar to how everyone prays that we lose (especially in gfs) and then dances on our grave yelling 'Collywobbles!'
I like to think it is borne out of a combination of envy and schadenfreude. Both our clubs are historically successful, very well supported by throngs of passionate/feral fans and we also have had tortured recent histories. All of these things we have in common and hence why IMO people love to hate our clubs.

When was the last time Barrett actually interviewed a player?? He has gone down the hutchy path players avoid him thats why he has to make shit up. He is the most disrespected journalist covering the AFL purely an ambulance chaser. Funny thing when Rockliff called him out he need big bad Gary Lyon to sit in his cnr.

They hate Collingwood because they're sane, well-adjusted people.

They hate Richmond because they're stark raving mad.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it... :p

I agree. But it hurts to have my family (that's what the Tiges are to me) have their name slung through the mud. I just wish someone in the media would say 'Back off the Tiges! They are doing really well and have a positive future.'
