Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2011/02/espn2-launches-march-1st.html

ESPN2 will bring ‘more live coverage of the ATP World Tour, more NBA, more NFL, more MLB, more European Football and Rugby, more College Sports, more action sports and thousands of hours of news and information programming, all delivered in ESPN’s market-leading High Definition.’

awesome!! :thumbsu:

this will be good for the Sunday games as there is no clash with Spanish football which airs at the same time, so hopefully we get Sunday NFL Countdown every week next season.

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

with the More NFL it sounds like they are close to a deal with CBS sports for the NFL

Is there a source on this or are you just guessing? More NFL might mean more NFL specialist shows.

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

So I guess there'll be no NFL of any kind on Free-to-Air until the (possible) start of the 2011 season?

No NFL network programming. Nothing?

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

So with the Launch of ESPN 2 I was wondering does this mean more NFL games Live per week (or delayed). We now have One HD, Fox Sports, ESPN and ESPN 2 so will we be getting more games or not? Any info appreciated.

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

This is what i'd love to see:

Friday: Thursday Night Football - 1 Day

Monday: 2 on Fox, 3 on One HD, 2 on ESPN and 1 on ESPN2

Tuesday: 1 on One HD

That would give us 10 games per week compared to the 5 - 6 we currently get.

oneHD wont get MNF back because ESPN stopped selling the right international. and i think if we get more NFL games it will be on the same ESPN channel, but repeated on both

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

Network Ten haven't yet stated what sports they will be keeping once OneHD is repositioned in May but it would seem to me that we will most likely end up losing our NFL coverage as well as NBA and MLB!

This sucks! Lucky I have Fox Sports HD, ESPN and ESPN2 HD! Hopefully they get more rights to more content.

There has been a lot of conjecture about this but what is your source?

Perhaps American sports rate well?

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

back to streaming it is. The problem with One's programming was it put things like the NBA on during work hours in the middle of the week. Prime time would of been better, even if they were delayed.

I'm a uni student and I have 2 days off a week. I love watching NBA games live or NFL games live on my days off. I can't watch a whole game in prime time delayed.

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

We could be showing 15 games a week over here and my Rams probably wouldn't be on FTA. I might end up buying the rights to watch the NFL directly from NFL.com if I can get Mondays off next semester instead of dealing with streams again.

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

In fact it's looking crap. Streams are nothing compared to sweet HDTV (as average as One's stream was on most occasions.)

At least I'll get more sleep on Monday mornings. :(
Foxtel son. You can afford it ;)

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

This sucks! I was only just starting to appreciate NFL and now they're taking it off Free To Air?

I guess I'll have to do the Torrent thing.....Balls

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

NFL would probably still be shown live on Monday morning. It'll probably mean no replays in the evening as they have contemporary BS on.

Fair enough for uni students and the like, but a lot of viewers work. From a ratings stand point, i think an NBA game would do better than ET's fishing adventure in the 7:30 slot

Re: NFL Coverage in Australia (2)

heads up for anyone interested tomorrow morning at 6AM ESPN2 have the LSU spring practice, with a 1hour college football live from 5AM. and from tuesday the Sportscenter on the clock NFL draft specials start

if it's available on Foxtel and doesnt need to be shown on FTA (i.e., anti-siphoning regulated), it's a monty to be axed. Murdoch and Packer will want fans to pony up for a PayTV subscription rather than watch it for free. that's money in the coffers before any advertising revenue.............and ad revenue on ONE was abysmal. the Victorian gridiron league ran a 10-week recruitment drive ad campaign from dec to the superbowl with some decent exposure for just $5k. this is peanuts in tv ad revenue terms. money well spent for GVIC though as it hit the target market. they have 4 new teams in the league this coming season.

ideally, id love for certain sports to be retained in addition to the big motorsport events which i also enjoy - Serie A, Bundesliga, etc, all good entertainment. most of these are on early morning too. but it's not just what we personally like or what may get decent ratings in comparison to other programming that is considered. if the margins of ad revenue to cost of these sport programming options arent worthwhile, then there's no value in it. it's a bit like the gripe AFL fans have with better homes and gardens being aired before delayed footy on fri night. AFL probably rates better in the timeslot, but the advertising partners and revenue that is brought in by BH&Gs in comparison to the cost to broadcast the show (hence the margins) are exceptional to C7. the cost of the rights to broadcast AFL are huge and margins generally lower.
