So we've got this first to the ball, feed it out, but not with disposals, midfielder. Pretty annoyed that Mcrae didn't play him around stoppage against Carlton's strong midfield. Terrible coaching really. Did a couple of good things in the last quarter - in the first three he was more your fumble the ball forward, rather than the first to the ball mid that would have come in handy.
He needs to play more on ball thats the frustrating part. McRae needs to expose him more.

it takes all types to support a club...

we have people on here knocking henry a couple of weeks ago when he lost confidence in his kicking for one game. Yet I remember a bloke called cloke who never had confidence in his kicking.. for years and years and years and people still defended him.

And then there's the timeframe. Murphy has been with the club for a long time....like the browns. But he has been injured a lot of that time and whatever you might think of his reliability in the injury stakes, his ability to learn by playing has been reduced. And we've all knocked him. I'm still not sure about him but one thing I wouldnt question is his desire to do something.

So then we get to tyler.... i do remember an injury some years back but generally he's been healthy...and yet he is still lacking in confidence and the desire to do anything about it. I wonder how he got into footy. I wonder if he just trailed behind his brother to junior footy, much like he trails behind his opponents.

So we all wait until the penny drops. That magical moment when he believes that he belongs....Evidently his brother has got there after 70 games but has he? Does he need to play 100? 200?

I said earlier that I can understand that it might hard to be a father-son. All those expectations, backslappers. Well we're not running a life coaching business.

i've heard that line with his brother. That his brother isnt a forward and needs to play on the ball...

so play both of them on the ball for the next 2 years and lose every week....but at least both of them will be exposed to their little niche in footy. And then when they're up and firing, they will need to have a rest..... obviously not on the backline or forwardline because they cant play there....so put them on the bench and rework the whole midfield to fit in with their limitations...

And then one day, both of them will retire...and we can look at what we should be doing

He hasn't got the strength yet. He's playing a really upright composed keep your feet style that has begun to work in the vfl because he's become strong enough to shift blokes at that level. But in the AFL he just gets caught behind, can't shift his man and is left doing nothing but tackle.

i saw him behind cripps on one occasion on sunday and both were behding over and reaching for the ball, side by side...and brown didnt even get close to getting it. Cripps picked it up as if Brown wasn't there. People are talking about him as a big bodied whatever, but what use is his body? He might as well be a runt like his brother. He is never ever going to use a big bodied strategy. He doesnt take overhead marks, of course, so i'm trying to work out what advantage he has over his brother. Maybe its when he's tackling because i've seen the runt have a lot of problems tackling bigger players.

Actually when i think about it, lets compare him to another father son. Jack silvagni.

jack 194cm 91 kg
tyler 192cm 84 kg

Obviously jack plays in the ruck. Tyler had to do that once but it wont happen again.

Jack 24 88 games

Tyler 22 24 games ( start of season figures) - so jack has 3 years more experience. if tyler were to play every game for the next 3 years, he will be the same level of experience but a year older.

jack kicks goals, tyler doesnt. jack rucks, tyler doesnt. jack is a jack of all trades. tyler apparently is a one trick pony but I'm still not sure of that... jack is willing to do anything for the team and I think thats been evident since he started. Tyler is still navel gaving, too worried about himself.

Both players have had their issues with being selected so i'm not comparing brown with a star player.

The question that is asked, is whether tyler brown will be a contributor like silvagni is to carlton....in 2 years????? ever?

Problem with T.Brown is that he has hardly any strengths and lacks upside.

His decision making, kicking, hands, inside work, marking, pace, agility, endurance are all average to below average. He has ok height but has a small frame, is still underweight and hasn't put much size on in the 5 years he has been on the list. He also seems to play behind and is second to the ball constantly.

His ceiling is a C grade midfielder in the vein of Jack Ross or Willem Drew (12-20 possessions) if he ever gets there.

Midfielders are your match winners and we need to be aiming higher so it is time to move on from him and C.Brown as our other younger mids have much higher upside and have shown just as much if not more in the VFL as T.Brown has.

I can ask him if you want, I see him at my local cafe at least once a week

Saw him literally last week wearing a trucker cap, big grey jumper, shorts and black Crocs over socks lol. On a Freezing day no less

Might still be a bit too recent. Can you stalk him for a few more years before you follow up with him?

Tyler browns kicking is much worse than people think. Whenever he has the ball in space all his kicks are slow 40 metre loopy kicks that gives our forwards no advantage what so ever. His ball use is very much like Callum’s but with maybe 5 metres extra range.

Was their dad a shit kick too?

His Dads kicking was not great for most of his career but he worked hard on it and it really improved towards the end.

Gavin wasn’t a shit kick , but his kicks were high , not long , never a penetrating kick , similar to what you described with Tyler .

He was moved forward towards the end of his career and he really worked hard on his kicking and it was much improved in the last few years.
Yes , he was moved forward and sometimes back later in his career , depending where we needed to utilise him best , for me , his best footy was as a wingman , run all day , fearless , strong overhead for his size , was a very strong player pound for pound .

He played everywhere, filled holes in defence in his last years.

He was no Daicos by foot but that's immaterial; he didn't really have any weaknesses. I've yet to see a more courageous and determined footballer. The guy wasn't prepared to lose any 1:1 contest.

He had a small frame but packed quite a bit of muscle on it.

Humble and committed.

Whether he was representing Collingwood or the Big V he did so bravely, many times to the detriment of his own safety. Such is his character.

A man's man and a class act.

And he didn’t have to worry about people analysing his every stat on social media.

He had multiple seasons averaging over 20 disposals in the 80s and 90s when disposal numbers were lower, and he kicked 50 odd goals in a flag year. People analysing his stats would have concluded that he was a jet

Yes he was. I was there in 1990 when he ran back out onto the ground and confronted Daniher.
This constant bagging of his boys does not sit well with me.

They are not their father. Just like Mark Weideman and Cameron Cloke.
You know what I mean. It’s become pretty toxic.
Two blokes who give their all for the jumper don’t deserve the crap comments thrown about on here.
