Sure is, he is quite little though.. interesting to see how he goes. stick around for game 2, metro have a good side.

Yeah i'm actually going to watch a mate play in game 2, thought i'd get there early. What do you think of Hill from Northern? Seen him play also, thought he went alright. Ive also heard good things about Hood. I was at the cannons northern game at coburg but can't really remember him?

Tom Hill - havent seen him before i missed the last game at Vic Park, however from what people have told me. He is one to watch very strong hands and a very hand height.

who is your mate that u are going to watch?

Metro appear very strong this year although country have a range of very very good players.

ziebell ellis ,oakley, tiller, butcher, cunnigton all good tall players backed by very clever onballers in hooper preist gavin hicks, rock christensen and a couple of others then sidebottom (wing hf,)pianto, bartlett geary, tate, page irvine and then some of the kids not known yet filling in the holes it makes a very strong side.

Metro side will be strong down back jakobi, witkowski ,cachia and with scully, wallace snell and co in the guts looking good and with watts back at CHF they will be more than handy with all thier tallls . the metro have gone very big while country look much smaller all round so they are going to rely heavily on thier big guys to work hard. Country ewill have to be a very gutsy side and play with a lot of heart.

Good call and assesment of the country boys. Good batch of running smalls.

First game country won by appx. 20 goals and was definately a strong side.

Second game saw the stronger metro side come out firing but looked a bit top heavy and missed some running smalls.

Country kept going at it and looked to have proably taken the points in the end.

Some of the susposedly called metro guns were found out in the second game.

Likley inclusions for metro from game one would be Sheils, Carr, Simcoe, Woods, Pasmans & Lucin.

Looks like they are grooming Lucin for a back pocket spot, covered the resting rovers easily whislt creating run.

Woods worked his ring off and was hard at it in and under, Sheils & Pasmans likewise.

Carr ran hard and knows how to use his body and had a good second half.

The rest of them, lets just say they had a dirty day.

Who did you guys though were the stand outs in vic metro in game 2? I thought quite a few players had ordinary games but there were a few that stood out in my opinion. Cachia, Scully, Blease and number 8. Corey something? Also thought Gysberts had a good first term before he had to come off injured. Your thoughts?

Lets not beat around the bush and say it as it is. Metro in both games were pretty ordinary and will need to improve enourmously. Can't see them beating country no matter what squad they select on todays performances.
Remember, country had to travel to vic park and thats got to be worth about 5 goals.
Lets hope they take a positive out of it and realise what work needs to be done in order to be competitive at this level.
Hats off to country, hardness, skill, pace and foremost "team play" proved to be the difference.

Valid point, I thought metro were lacking a few good fast smaller players, thats really what one the game for country.. Who did you think played well for metro? Surely you dont think the whole side played bad? Also who do you think was disapointing?

I agree with you earlier call, Scully being good early, Cachia solid but didn't dominate, looked a bit caught out at times but not his fault, Talia got a reasonable amount of it without being damaging, Gysberts looked set for a good one (hows his injury by the way?) I don't really want to comment with regards to the shockers, i prefer to post positive remarks with regards to individuals.

Scully being good early? I thought his best quater was by far the final term, he dominated that. What did you think of Blease? or Millard?

From what i can recall both boys should make the cut, Blease showed good pace and strength, What i can recall of Millard was good, however not sure if he would hold down a kp spot, maybe a flank. Had some dots against their names, however i didn't jot down anything specifically.

Was anyone else at the games and would like to pass a comment?

.

I agree totally. I said in an earlier thread/post that I thought going onlast years Vic Metro team they would not beat Vic Country and I still think that. I no a different group of boys will probably be picked (we can only hope otherwise it is over red rover) but unfortunately going on yesterdays performance the city boys are no match for the country boys.

It would have been interesting to see how the Game 1 Country team performed against the Game 2 Metro team (apparently these are the stronger teams). Country would still have won but propably but not as much.

Thanks for the tip off on the country boys to watch out for. I was very impressed with 8# Ben Peters - good srong hands. Took 3 good grabs in first quarter. 18# Mannon Johnston I liked and also 11# Christensen when on the ball. Not much when he was switched to forward pocket in the first as he was beaten. (How is his arm anyway - lets hope it is not broken)

I was surprised at Cunnington and Hooper - I imagined them both bigger in height. Cunnington was outdone in the first quarter but once switched to ball was in great form.

Only noticables in 1st Vic Metro game were 53# Shiels, 51# Broadhurst, 31# Carr and 8# Lucin.

Second Game I didn't see to end but thought some of the well named Metro boys were outdone. Hard to pick a best as no one dominated.

Well don't the selectors have a big job on their hands.

Theres a few players who should definetly make the cut for metro, but apart from that its gonna be harder trying to find players to keep than finding players to cut.. I was very impressed with number 3 and 4 from the country side in the second game, both played really well, and I thought it was the little guys that made the diffrence.

Could any1 tell me how the Gippsland boys went?? I see Johnson must have been impressive for a little bloke, but how bout Ross, Pincott, Butcher, Stevens and Carson???

Valid point, I thought metro were lacking a few good fast smaller players, thats really what one the game for country..

Who are the quick smalls that maybe able to assist Metro? Do we have any or do we just go with the talls?

The quick smalls are probably Scully and Blease although they are between 180-182cms. so i dont no if there classified as smalls or not

Michael Barnse is also quick at around the mid 170's. cant think of any others wats ur thoughts on this? where can u see these boys being played?

Does anyone know why Anton from last year's U/15 Metro team
isn't in this year's trials? He is a loss surely??

if he gets over his OP
well for mine heres what i made out of the weekends carnival.

Metro definites tho hard to tell as they were a bit top heavy in both teams so balance wasnt right but i'll have a go .

scully- had an ordinary day but you could tell his class and hasnt played much footy will only get better.

Blease - killed em eas the class player of the day .
Cachia- solid all day .

Purcell - good all day and got hieght.

witkowsky- was good without being great .

Talia -quite but hasnt played much from injury and you can tell he's a player.
Gysberts - good until he went off he'll be right
Watts didnt play but will definatly be init .
Tindarra hood - not great but quick and will need his legs
grimes - ok but will go .
Thats alli could really be sure of .

Country played well both games and some players really stood up in the second game.

Butcher - class all the way and will go

Ziebell -Was great early tho the ball didnt go down there much . Very classy player.
interesting that he played down back . Cut his hand on the fence country boy said he cut tendons and might be in doubt.be blow if they lose him.
Sidebottom - player of the day very clever quick and skillfull.
Dean gavin - quiet early but strong and keeps going.
Hooper - killed them and he is going to be a nightmare for afl scouts to small but ticks every other box tho a bit selfish . Killed them sat .
Bartlet was okgot a bit of class will go
Priest - had a quiet day but classy player and will be better when team is settled.
Geary kallen - very good player played on scully down back and beat him on one on ones and matched his pace. Great thinker and good skills.
Jack geary , played well in the second game and clever but still pretty light on tho i think he will make this squad.
Ellis - good big body tho he's goota get tougher but country dont have many good talls he'll go can play .
Oakley - played well he's a great size but probably needs to imprrove his thinking will be key back .
Tiller - played well atheletic and a bit light but will be a good player.
pianto - didnt do much but makes good decisions when he gets it and will play better in a settled team .
Cunnington didnt do a lot but will go .
