howd scott oakley play? second game he played in for vic country?

Oakley is probably the Vic country chb he played pretty well . He will definatly go to the next stage just not sure of others who can play his spot maybe ellis. They will need some one to play on Jack watts and he might be the man . At the carnval in bendigo Ziebell and watts played on each other (swapped CHF and CHB on each other )but your wasting both playing on each other looks like there going to play ziebell at HBF get a bit of drive also to help couteract the good forwards they will come up a gainst at the nationals .

Who did you guys though were the stand outs in vic metro in game 2? I thought quite a few players had ordinary games but there were a few that stood out in my opinion. Cachia, Scully, Blease and number 8. Corey something? Also thought Gysberts had a good first term before he had to come off injured. Your thoughts?
Yeah the metro guys were just to big the country team ran them off thier legs and could bottle up scully and co to easily later on .Metro may need to re think there team and put a few smaller guys in . It makes you wonder when they didnt pick a guy like Luke Andrews when vic country had a host of little blokes that ran riot . The metro big guys didnt mark well which hurt when it came to ground . Blease was good and scully kept them in it till they took him off in the third . i wouldnt take to much out of it tho as when the final squads are in you can make more of a judgement on them . Balance the 2 teams out and you have a completly different scenario.Put watts and you have a good goal to goal line

Country's guns played well with sidebottom showing how good he is ,butcher dominating all over ,hooper doing what he liked and ziebell floating around controlling the backline hitting targets up the ground they all look ominous. Country are definatly going to be very competative at least this year compared to a lot of years as the core of the team are as good as any running around in this year level Metro wont be a bad side either when the side has been settled so i guess the last practice match will really show where they are both at .
Interested in ziebell and christensens injury's . If ziebell misses it will be a major blow for country heard he has injured it badly (tendons) and christenson hurt his elbow which could be out for a while lucky theres seven weeks to go .

I agree totally. I said in an earlier thread/post that I thought going onlast years Vic Metro team they would not beat Vic Country and I still think that. I no a different group of boys will probably be picked (we can only hope otherwise it is over red rover) but unfortunately going on yesterdays performance the city boys are no match for the country boys.

It would have been interesting to see how the Game 1 Country team performed against the Game 2 Metro team (apparently these are the stronger teams). Country would still have won but propably but not as much.

Thanks for the tip off on the country boys to watch out for. I was very impressed with 8# Ben Peters - good srong hands. Took 3 good grabs in first quarter. 18# Mannon Johnston I liked and also 11# Christensen when on the ball. Not much when he was switched to forward pocket in the first as he was beaten. (How is his arm anyway - lets hope it is not broken)

I was surprised at Cunnington and Hooper - I imagined them both bigger in height. Cunnington was outdone in the first quarter but once switched to ball was in great form.

Only noticables in 1st Vic Metro game were 53# Shiels, 51# Broadhurst, 31# Carr and 8# Lucin.

Second Game I didn't see to end but thought some of the well named Metro boys were outdone. Hard to pick a best as no one dominated.

Well don't the selectors have a big job on their hands.

Heard mannon johnstone got cut I thought he had plenty of the ball maybe didnt kick well which could have cost him same with pincott both pretty small but goers but mannon should be dissapointed.

Well we might as well start the list of the ins for the vic metro's.

Cannons
Talia
Melskham
Lucin

Boys were told tonight.

My mate missed out, carrried an ankle. He'll get his chance again.

Can anyone add to the list?

Can help with starting "ins" for Country

Dean Gavin
Luke Thompson
Callum Bartlett
Andrew Hooper
Ben Cunnington

Thanks soupy ...any one know of outs for country,

outs known -: fisher pincott gilmour johnstone ,hicks irvine irvine hodgkin brown any more known

another our for country - Joe Daly

haven't heard any more re injuries to Ziebs or Bundy

I saw the entire CountryA Vs MetroB on Saturday and a quarter of CountryB Vs MetroA.

Got to say I was amazed at easily CA beat MB, the margin would have at least 100 pts.

3 players for CA were standouts Ziebell playing at CHB, Butcher and Sidebottom who were exceptional early when the game was there to be really won.

In the second game CB and MA seemed to be pretty even.
If I was picking a squad of 30 for a combined team it would be hard to fit in more than 10 metro. May seem harsh but the stats are there.

A couple more games left to impress. Wait and see what happens.

Actual score 89 CA to 8 MB. 33 point first qtr to zero set up the win. 11 boys in the CA team are from the winning nat champ 2006 team in Darwin and I guess country boys have long memories - equivalent practice game last year saw Metro dish out a spanking.

Does anyone want to put together and actual side for the metro and country under 16's? or is it still to early to do so?

I'll have a bit of a go at Country Dont know a lot about the new blokes but will have a go any way . Please comment as i am sure this will bare little resemblance to real side .

Butcher will have to play ruck , hooper any where ziebell has been played at hbf as a controller and i think they will go with him there even tho he is a great forward. Sidebottom hooper priest can play any where . gavin is a tough little nut and knott played his way into it sat as did the geary boys
f: knott cunnington J geary

Hf:bartlett tiller christenson

c page hooper sidebottom

hb pianto Oakley ziebell

b thompson ellis vardy
R butcher gavin priest

I rekon both the geary boys played well Kallens effort on scully in one on ones in paticular was great as scully is a very good player that rarely gets beaten as kallen did sat . Scully is a great mover and i thought kallen matched him for pace and edged him out on skill so really looking forwards to seeing them both mix it again . Jack goes under the radar a bit and it was good he got noticed by selectors very clever player.
The key VC players are definatly ahead of the Key metro players. probably only watts as good . Sidebottom really showed what he is capable of at this level has been playing senior footy so will be very comfortable playing his own age group . Hooper rans rings around them and is amazing how he finds the footy so often . He is iam sure giving metro boys some nightmares already . Ziebell is the class big non ruck of the competition and so versatlile he plays down back up forwards on the ball centre and very tough geat leader who will give opposition headaches where ever he plays . Butcher is very very good for his size and looks better this year than last tho he was questionable in the ruck contests last year but great around the ground and up forwards . Priest is as good as it gets and he will win games for the team he's great to watch . These are the class palyers then throw in your pianto's pages bartletts gavins and a sprinkling of new talent that i am sure are as good and i think the Country team will be fairly competetive etc

Sportz u seem to know a bit about teh two sides. tell us who u think are the standouts from both sides. I find it interesting on everybodys oppinions.

Well i dont know a lot but i know a bit about a few of them .

The standouts Imo only are for metro

Jack watts - i think he is just a great size good reader of the play and fairly versatile. He's the key i believe to metro's chances because of the lack of quality big guys and that v country have a good big man in John butcher. He's very smart and gets goals from good play not just mark and kick .Probably rated best u16 going around in Victoria

Tom Scully - A very quick midfielder and good skills by foot has great stamina and very good footy brain .He will simply burn opponants out beeps almost 16 and runs quality 3k times. draft camp he will record a few records i think . Gonna be a handful for anyone that he plays on .

Sam Blease- he's a very good on baller rover type thats quick and good skills .gets a lot of footy and i believe is very underated by some .

Jarrod Cachia - he's a strong defender that reads the play well and gets plenty of kicks he's a good catch and makes the right decisions. He's a grerat build and will only get better .He can play a bit up forward so it will be interesting where they wil use him at the carnival

Josh Purcell- He's a very quiet kid but very effective he's very tall and agile and will always get the big jobs on good players got a great leap and good skills . Plays down back a lot and is just super reliable and does the jobs every time .

jacob castricum - He's probably not in the class of the others but is getting there he's a strong mark and good skills improving all the time.

For Vic country

Jack Ziebel - he's probably the key to vic country he can play anywhere and has a lethal kick on him and marks strongly . Plays chf ,hb ,centre onball and anywhere else they need him tends to really stand up when needed and big and very tough Has a real presence and i know the metro boys rate him a lot .

John butcher -He is another key due to his size marking ability and skills for a bloke his size . very good at ground level and great mark and kick. he's one that will cause a lot of havoc

Andrew hooper - this kids amazing the way he gets the footy so often quick great skills great kick for a bloke his size and really hurts where ever he plays . only downside is his hieght tho only to knockers as he plays tall and he doesnt give it off much but very exciting to watch 30+ possie every game and unbeatable most days .

Steele sidebottom - Very skilled player reads the ball so well can take freakish marks runs and wont find a better user of the ball .The tricks he's got are increadible

Farren Priest - This kids amazing to watch in traffic . he can turn games by himself and is a deadly kick . rover type but very versatile .

Matt pianto - This blokes not as polished as the rest but he's a dane swan type hard pysical great speed and makes the right decisions. he played on scully last year in the final and kept him pretty quiet which is no mean feat. Probably gonna end up a bit small but he can playand he's built like a tank .

I think Country are probably a bit more pyhsical than the metro blokes and the metro blokes a bit cleaner with thier skills but theres not much between all of these guys either so it is going to be a matter of depth for mine . Country dont have many good talls but great smalls and metro are probably the other way so game plans are going to be important for both sides. I would nt take much from the last practice games when the sides are finalised you'll have a better idea.

Another out for Country is James Rock who played in 1pm game.
Good News - Bundy )Allan Christensen for those who don't know) training with Falcons as we speak. Elbow appears ok

he is injured and probly wont play in the carnival. dont think he is as highly rated as you suggest. very overrated IMO and in a lot of others opinions'

Marcus Darmody and Tom McKenzie are "ins" for country and I think Dane Tutton as well but he didn't train last nite but I am told he is in. Last I heard Clayton was in some "ruck academy squad?" and not actually up for selection in the country squad. Anyone know more?

im good mates with Priest, Sidebottom and Pianto.. matty would be the biggest of the three i would guess about 183? sidebottom may have caught him but i wouldnt say his much taller if at all?

Thats correct mate i think there is 4 of them they train and do everything with the vic team but are just not up for selection any more

thats not entirely correct about the academy boys not up for selection...if they prove themselves in the practice matches they are given every opportunity to make the sides.

great news for VC and the boys in ruck academy - jock was the one at group discussion who said they were not up for selection so I guess that means someone must have shown some good form to get them to rethink - you just never know what the selectors are looking for???????

so what your saying is that originally the ruck academy boys weren't up for selection , but some of the acedemy boys proved themselves and are now given every oppo to make the sides if they continue to prove themselves in the cut games?

thats what was said when they handed out jumpers for the intra practice game - but not fussed about it - good luck to all comers - its about getting the best team on the park to bring home the best result for VC or VM depending on your side

You in the squad soupy? I assume you're referring to Jock Whiting.
