I know D|ck Sankey was named one of the goal umpires of the century, not sure about the rest.
If they are picking a team the same as the clubs are they would be hard pressed to find 10 good umpires over the years worthy, but I promise if one Peter Cameron gets in I will blow up the place they are holding the presentation in.

Well what is the point of making a team of the century for players? It means nothing really, but it recognises good players for their qualities... Umpires are just the same, and should get the same recognition. Without them, there would be no game!

How about Ken Aplin? He's one of 10 umpires in the Umpires' Hall of Fame, but isn't good enough for a nomination.
Or if you want to stay rampantly Victorian, how about Bob Scott? Seven consecutive grand finals in the 30's. Obviously being preferred over Jack McMurray Snr for those appointments, yet Jack gets a nomination.
Of course, we all know umpiring is about inconsistency....

If the umpires are such a team why don't they all show the same interpretations as each other?
When is this crap going stop. Next we'll have the timekeepers TOTC, the waterboys TOTC, the trainers TOTC. All these groups have a huge input on the AFl and football in general why don't they get a TOTC?

The umpires deserve a TOTC. There have been some damn good ones over the years and the service they have provided to the game cannot be overestimated.
The only problem is the timing. For the past three years the standard of umpiring has been just plain crap. It robs the TOTC of any kind of dignity or honor.
