Umpiring almost screwed Sydney again

I knew as soon as I saw the umps' roster, that Sydney might be in strife. Goldspink and McLaren have been shockers all season, not just last night. Surely there's got to be better umpires around than those two. Hopefully the match tonight won't be as "interrupted" by soft frees and they let the players go for it.

That was absolutely woeful - bloody Scott McLaren - how was Barry at half time!!

On the issue of umpiring in finals I reckon its put down the whistle unless it is a blatantly obvious free - some of the 50 metres decisions were soft as butter - particularly for holding after the whistle when it was plain as dog's balls that the St Kilda player intended to play on.

Sydney will get to show them that no matter how hard they try, they can do it. Credit to Roos for sending Hall out there to have a go at him. May cost them a fine or what ever, but it was some of the worst I've seen!! Sydney got screwed against WCE 2 weeks ago, and they may have the chance of a life time now to show them that cheats never prosper!!

Thought Goldspink was the best out of the trio last night.

And yet Sydney benefited from shocking umpiring this year in at least four games. They beat Brisbane, Essendon, Collingwood and Melbourne in close finishes, and the results could all have gone the other way with decent officiating.

Take those four wins away from Sydney (and there are possibly others I've forgotten), and they would have come 8th. And had to face Geelong first-up in an elimination final in Melbourne. They should be very grateful to be where they are at the moment.

Yeah. Except our free count this year stands at 410 FF and 501 FA. Thats an average of 16.4 for and 20.0 against. Just how many games more would we have won if the free count was at least even. Compare that to St Kilda who average 19.6 for and 16.6 against.

Your wrong on the Collingwood game. Collingwood's free kicks outnumbered the swans 2 to 1 for the entire game. Collingwood nearly got every 50-50 decision.

Even Buckley got a soft free kick for a hip and shoulder FFS!!

Ok, if you insist, change the word "umpiring" to "timekeeping" then. Either way, there was huge controversy over the result of that match.

yeah almost. I don't know whats up with these umpires are they against AFL in NSW or somthing like that? they know they are blatantly giving away free kicks because they want to and they are corrupt. or maybe they're one of those people who still think the swans should've stayed in melbourne.
to prove my point on the radio today in sydney a local radio station was doing some crank calls to st kilda for a bit of fun and they called up an old lady and they asked "who won the game last night???" and she said SOUTH MELBOURNE WON the game last night. the radio hosts were stunned that there were people who still referred to the swans as south melbourne. nothing wrong with that but it seems kinda like the dark ages when people still say that. (no offense though) I was in melbourne a while back and all the swans fans I met referred to them as sydney!!

Anyone who judges the quality of umpiring purely by stats is kidding themselves.
