Tom Browne from Melbourne Uni... He didn't do it deliberately? Huh? WTF? At least make some sense with your opinions you silver spooned bedwetter.

I think that was the common sense outcome. It should only be a 50 metre penalty if Warner did it deliberately. He didn’t. I think the context, the siren, is important if you are going to award a 50.

You know when the umpires are unsure about what call is right and are debating it amongst themselves then something is seriously wrong with this sport.

Makes for great theatre but I can't ever recall a season where the umpires are the most talked about, most crucial part of the game.

The game isn't and should never be about them. But it is.

Guess they wrongly paid one against Bolton last week, wrongly paid another one against us vs Hawthorn the week before, wrongly paid one against Dusty vs the Pies. Could go on and on…

Thanks JCL - You obviously think you are an alarm clock for some reason. Don't give rats arse about the Sportsbets and others of this world - a fool and his money are soon parted. I hate our intelligence characterised by the buffoons and morons in the adverts though. I think your frame of reference is still in the land of Trump!
no alarm clock here mate.... the only think on snooze are the sheep that can't see through it.... but its played out before our eyes. I don't care for sportsbet and others either. I agree our intelligence is mocked but I couldn't care less for trump or making it political. If you can't see the game has changed since betting companies became involved. LOL

Don’t believe any BS you hear this week about crowd noise or ‘common sense’ in relation to the 50m penalty. You just need to imagine this in Pies V Carlton game …

It’s the 31-minute mark of the first quarter. Pendlebury is paid a holding the man free kick in the centre circle in the dying seconds just before 1/4 time siren. Siren goes with Pendles waiting to be given ball, and Cripps picks up the ball and kicks the ball 60-metres to the outer wing as he didn’t hear the siren and was frustrated as Blues were down by 2 goals.

On what planet does anyone think that would not be paid 50m?

And we will all enjoy keeping count of how many 50m penalties are paid for the remainder of the season when it’s clear the player had not heard the whistle.

So all week we will hear it was ‘common sense’ and should not have been paid etc…. but in reality in the Pendles/Cripps scenario … which is an exact replica just at a different time of the game … would be paid 100% of the time. Not 99.99% …100%.

Many aspects of the umpiring can be fixed fairly quickly and cleanly. But I'm increasingly coming to the realisation that there just isn't the will to actually make it happen. Most of the footy community seem to have a similar macabre attachment with subjective umpiring that Americans have with their guns.

I've now decided that it's never going to get better. It might favour us again one day, like it did when we were shit, but it'll still be broken.

Someone should put together a montage of all the times this year an oppo team has been awarded a free kick, we've kicked the ball away because we couldn't hear the whistle, and then a 50m penalty is paid against. From memory, there's at least 3 (Bolton against Essendon & Hawthorn, Dusty against Collingwood). I'm sure there were some earlier in the year too.

As we have all been saying, I'm fine if we give away a few extra free by playing on the edge. It's the ones we don't get that kill us. The obvious 50m last night, but I'd argue McCartin diving on the ball with a minute to go, not making an attempt, and the umpire instantly blowing the whistle for a ball-up was worse. You know if that was down the other end, they would have waited and waited and likely pinged us for HTB.

You guys copped it worse against Adelaide... 20 more frees to them

now that was blatant cheating

amazing
We're doing ok this year, -66 after 11 games, on track for -132. If we raise the bat again for the reverse ton (like we did in 2018), it'll be a proud moment for the club :)

Wake up and see people!!! just watch the fox footy sportsbet segments or pointsbet etc.....Its a business now,,,ex players pushing the crap down our throats of who to bet on etc ...if you can't see it your either niave or plain stupid...The officiating of the game is now a joke but they want this. Just like other sports. If you bet and on the right side well done to you...but the game that we know and love is officially dead now its entertainment.

Everyone going to finally wake up and boycott this corrupt sport until shit changes?

#boycottAFL

So what can one do?

How about getting as many Richmond supporters boycotting the next game and instead all turn up in black and yellow to a Melbourne Storm game. The sure to be interviewed and asked why they are not at the Tigers game?

Answers:
Too many rule changes in a short time.

Umpires not professional.

Games over umpired.

Inconsistency in decisions.

Hopefully other fans will follow suit to show the AFL they are making the game unwatchable.

But they will probably respond with we don’t deal with terrorists…

You guys have copped it all through your flag era, but at least it was for the way you attacked other teams.
Nowadays the overumpiring is just killing the game. The fee against Rioli was something else.
You should be happy you got your flags in before Brad Scott completely ruined the umpiring of the game.
The game is being ruined.
I turned off at the 58th free last night so missed the end. Thought we had a good run first half but it was still not enjoyable. Agreed the game is so over umpired it’s completely ruined the sport.

Sadly the game is changing all time with or without betting companies - sure they have an impact with so-called integrity measures but if you are creating a nexus between the state of the current game with betting companies, wrong hole, wrong rabbit burrow. The problem with the game is squarely in the AFL, not outside it. The reference to Trump thinking was more about people who love conspiracy thinking and the frames of reference that revolve around that.

How bad the first free kick of the game when they were gifted a goal from a marking infringement!!
There was no body contact whatsoever. The Ch7 commentators were dumbfounded but quickly moved on because they were probably directed not to focus on umpiring 5 minutes into the first Q.

And then the free against Rioli for body contact after the ball was over the boundary. FFS he brushed his arm. That umpire should be officiating in the D grade amateurs for the rest of the year

Yeah, the game is shit to watch - I cannot understand how Gil can sit up their proudly watching it - it is not like he hasn't played himself at lower levels missing certain nuances. He's not a dill in the most basic sense of the work because he is highly educated and possesses the powers of rational and critical thinking. Perhaps he is just so close to the game that he can't step back and see the trouble looming. He has so many vested interests coming at him weekly, if not daily, it cannot be easy but seems to have jumped on board to eagerly with his fanboy love of Steve Hocking.

He needs some real people detached from the day to day to tell what is coming - massive fan discontent!!!

Yeah, that first call was shocking. Umpires are deciding games, not necessarily by design but by sheer ineptness - oh and where was the commonsense being applied in the first decision? I want someone asking the Umpire Matt Stevic that - he made such an over reach is role on the night that his normally adequate umpiring was pretty ordinary - in both directions!

It's pretty obvious. $$$. The AFL administration doesn't give a shit about any of the fans because we're a very small piece in the monetary pie. Rather it's all about catering to TV rights and advertising (in particular betting advertising which is a leech on society).

Hence why they have brought in the dissent rule and changing HTB rule so it’s a grey area and umpires see fit whenever to change the flow of the game.
Happened in NFL with pass interference. Don’t tell me a company as in Sportsbet that turns over US$1.72 billion has no say on how a game is to be officiated when they and others push their narrative down our tv every ad and sponsor the media etc.
Coaches defend the umpires and don’t call it out it’s left to the fans to vent and that’s exactly what they want. It’s being played out in front of your eyes very game

When are you guys/girls going to wake up and realise this is a business.....like the NFL, NBA etc..... we have betting companies shoved down our throat every ad....Prestia was given for 25 disposals yet get's 24....60 free kicks...what was rioli free kick for ....seriously and the script from the commentators after the game is laughable.....listen to this crap. I really don't care on the negative feedback from posters no matter who you support.... umpires with earpieces like all sport nowadays are being told .... and the after show bullshi$ from the commentary was it a free kick was it 50..... it took me a few years to work out sports are rigged, You don't leave a multi million dollar business up to chance when sports betting companies are involved or they go out of business. Hardwick will come out say its a a hard game to officiate.... wake up people!!! You wonder why crowds are down. They want you to sit at home and watch the entertainment and gamble....gambling companies would have made a fortune tonight on Sydney in live betting....watch the whistles go out the window come finals...
The AFL is much harder than the NBA or NFL to script but we are seeing it happen before our eyes thankyou sportbet, pointsbet etc. Well done AFL you have succumb to the $$$ and yeah I get it now its a business and entertainment..
You can't tell me that since betting companies became involved has the game improved.....ticky tacky free kicks...supporter uproar....they want this....

Rant out
I`d like to second that!

I disagree with this only because footy is way too random of a sport to match fix from the outside.

HOWEVER, I absolutely believe that the AFL instructs umpires to pay more free kicks and more 50m penalties that result in goals so they can run ads during said goals and bring in more $$.

In the end the first and last umpire call’s of the game cost us big time, most likely the 4 points
Fast forward to R22 and see how important that turns out to be !?
Maybe a top 4 or top6 position.

Bloody frustrating!!
