Pirates should've been the nick but changing now would encourage even more ridicule. The pirated copy of the PAFC etc.

Tassie Pirates has a ring to it, I reckon it'd be in the running as Devils is too obvious & we already have the Demons.

Only if we knew we were going to get stripped back from the great club we used to be, to become a mediocre middle of the road club, with a car salesman for a coach that lasts over a decade, we could have gone with Donuts Port or Power Donuts, maybe St Donuts

I never understood the obsession with team monikers. They should emerge organically, not out of marketing and focus groups, and be largely unofficial.

Port Adelaide Football Club
Port Adelaide
Port
Port Supporters
Port Fans
Port People
Ports
Port Club
Port Precinct
The Port
Only club in AFL with Port in their name...

"Power" nickname was redundant from the start.
The only thing worse would have been calling us Pirates.

Port is perfectly acceptable.

Just drop Power.

You can still use all the lightning bolts etc. as it would be a part of the history.

Hinkley's Hillbillies

I’d love a name like Hillbillies, same reason I love Rabbitohs or Cubs etc.

The trying to sound tough aspect of nicknames is the sad part.

Especially if there’s no real connection other than alliteration or a ‘cool’ animal

Animals that have no relation to Australia bug me like Tigers, Lions etc.

This would have to be in the top 5 funniest things from Port BigFooty in my time.

That would have applied from the start as well. Along with many others.

This sort of thing is true for literally any name you could pick though.

I will be absolutely seething if Tasmania go with Pirates.

I feel like Port has largely become our de facto nickname anyway since the 1 club merger

even the media mostly refers to us as Port.

you do get the occasional "The Power" or even rarer "Port Power" from some in the media but is getting less and less.

I'm perfectly fine with officially dropping power & magpies for unified nickname of Port or Ports.

We just have our nickname before the location instead of after.

FFS

That opinion isn't unpopular! It's one of the most popular Port Adelaide opinions there is!

I like the Power, I like the abstract concept as it doesn't feel like it interferes with the more tangible Magpie, I like teal, and I liked the fist logo!

What a shocker

Could imagine the headlines for a game between....................

The Seamen and The Dockers
