Autopsy Unswanslike performance vs Richmond

Respect your opinion on this as you have been consistent, but do you think having the three talls has to equal a lack of pressure?

I just feel like we've seen that it's a structure that can work IF the pressure is there.
I’ve never seen the pressure there. Didn’t see it in 2014, 2016 and 2022 with buddy as one of the talls.

Certainly won’t see it with anartey McDonald and McLean. Maybe it’s the mcg who knows but it doesn’t work very often there.

That was so depressing today, because I am not sure what to blame for the loss.

We just weren't very good, but I don't know why the game would be any different if it was played again.

I blame losing Rampe and reshuffling everything mid-game on the loss mainly. We were already down Cunningham coming into the match so we were really short on defenders.

Aside from the poor umpiring in the last I think Richmond played a better game and wanted it more. Probably had been watching and studying us for weeks. How to play to their strengths (create chaos) and deny our strengths (deny our good open field kicking with extreme pressure).

I sure as hell hope other teams don't see this as a blueprint how to beat us and just repeat it.

Melican and McCartin only had 3 marks between them, felt like a real focus from Richmond to deny any kind of intercept play, and they also killed our kick mark game. Pretty sure we didnt have a mark for at least the first 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter.

Whilst Richmond aren’t great, they did seem to have more leg speed than us.

It felt like our lack of pressure gave their quick players the space they needed.

And it was most pronounced when Richmond was rebounding out of defensive 50.

I’m no huge wrap on Wicks - but today felt like we needed him.
With a grand total of 4 tackles in the F50 no wonder they waltzed it out of defence.

Well, someone was going to do it sooner rather then later. The question is what did the team & coaches learn from it.

They defended the exits really well and our players probably didnt work hard enough to work into space up the ground, but still, credit to Richmond for getting the setup right. On the flipside we didn't setup as quickly defensively as we have in previous weeks. Mostly comes down to work rate imo.

Could be a bit of a hangover from last week. Essendon pretty much only ran one way last week and defended terribly once they turned it over. Richmond setup well today and we couldn't just waltz it out of the backline like last week, and at times, in our other two wins.

I'm not losing any sleep over that loss. Sure, we were crap but the Tigers had the bounce of the ball, favourable umpiring and played at their peak, yet only beat us by a kick. If you had given me 3 and 1 at the start of the season, I would've been happy.

Having said that, I thought we lost at the contest, although Heeney, JMac and Rowbottom fought hard against a very determined Tigers outfit. We then really struggled when the ball went wide. Jordan looked gassed after half time as did Campbell. Gulden lacked his usual spark. I think Adams needs to come back next week to bolster our contested work, which will free up JMac to play more on the outside and Papley to play in F50.

Where we looked really clunky was when the ball went to ground at both ends. Hopefully Harry will be fit to return next week. In our F50, we could've done with Wicks's pressure. I'm not necessarily against 3 tall forwards but I think we could rotate them, along with Grundy in such a way that most times we only have 2 in F50.

Certainly things to work on, which is only to be expected in R3 but I am still optimistic.

What did everyone think of Mitchell? I felt similar to Co. Warner last week. Got in a lot of the right spots, had the chance to impact but didn't have the nerves to execute a lot of the time. Did a few good things and linked up well a few times I feel.

Warner was the same as last week. Didn't take his chances again.

I thought Mitchell was ok. He’s not a highlights reel player & I suspect has a limited ceiling - but he didn’t seem overawed and did a job.

Corey I find a bit frustrating. And I suspect he’s frustrated too. Has the talent, but hasn’t managed to show any real composure in his games this year.

God only knows how many marks they dropped that they would've swallowed in the first 3 weeks. Must've easily been 7-8. They both dropped everything today as well.

Honestly thought it was a acceptable debut in a team that was well down in all aspects of the game.

An off performance but we were within a goal off Richmond who troubled Carlton and others and arent as s**t as people think

We needed thia loss to expose our forwards.
Mcdonald amartey will not win us big finals if out mids have to kick 6+ between them every game
Forget big finals they will win you **** all period. One is weak as p1ss in a marking contest the other one drops ****ing chest marks and one has not got a miniscule of football matter in his cornrow head. Loose the cornrows you idiot. Also you are spot on where you say about the mids.

Thought Mitchell was ok on debut

Jordan was a standout for me who shat the bed with the pressure when in the middle
No probs with endeavour and found the footy but as slow as me. I hope it was just the step up in pace at the level that made him look that way on debut which could happen to anyone. Just looked like a bowed leg bush centreman the way he moved.
